Patients with cerebral palsy or arthritis have deformities in lower limb which cause unstable gait or posture and pains. Surgeons perform a deformity correction osteotomy with surgical plan. But sometimes they find the unexpected angular or rotational deformation after surgery. The problems are that there is no method to predict the result of a surgical plan and also there are so many factors to must consider in surgical planning step such as clinical measurements, rotation angle, wedge angle, morphology of lower limb, etc. This paper presents new methods for planning the deformity correction osteotomy efficiently. There are two approaches based on the 3D mesh model and the accurate assessment of the patient's lower limb. One is the manual pre-simulation of surgery using forward kinematics. And the other is the automatic surgical planning using inverse kinematics and nonlinear optimization. Using these methods, we can predict and verify the results of various surgical treatments and also we can find a more effective surgical plan easily compared to conventional methods.

Precast concrete segment arch system has an economic and construct ability that combined with advantage of precast concrete and arch behavior. A precast concrete segment arch system with outrigger is consisted of segmented precast panels, a steel outrigger rib, and V-strip to connect precast panels with a steel outrigger rib and cast-in-place anchors in precast panels to connect V-strip should have sufficient pull-out capacity to form its arch shape by site lifting for assembled precast panels and outriggers. However, it is difficult to secure its embedment depth due to the relatively shallow thickness of precast panel. It can be also occurred that flexure deformation of precast panels caused by its pull-out behaviors. In this study, pull-out capacity of cast-in-place anchor was examined for construction of precast concrete segment arch system with outriggers. Therefore, a total of 24 precast panel specimens were fabricated to examine pull-out capacities of cast-in-place anchor in precast panels, and installation depth of anchors, diameter of anchors and wire mesh effects for the precast panel were examined. From this pull-out tests, its pull-out capacities and failure modes were evaluated and the type of the cast-in-place anchor applicable to the precast concrete segment panel arch system with outriggers was determined from comparison of the design specification values.

In this paper, collision analysis is carried out between two FRP fishing boats. A computer simulation with finite element method is used to accomplish this objective. At first, a detailed geometric model of the boat is constructed using 3-D CAD program. The formation of a finite element from a geometric data of the boats is carried out using HYPERMESH that is the commercial software for mesh generation and post processing. Twelve collision configurations are established by combining two kinds of contact angle($90^{\circ},\;135^{\circ}$) and three different speed(5, 10, 15knot) for small and large boats. Collision analysis is accomplished using DYNA3D. Stress distribution and deformation shape are investigated for each collision condition. In general, $90^{\circ}$ collision angle generate larger stress than $135^{\circ}$ case and the collision for two moving boats showed larger maximum stress than the case that one is moving and the other is stationary. When analysis is carried out until 150ms contact parts of two boats are broken for 10 and 15knot collision speed, in which maximum stress is larger than ultimate strength of the material.
With the current move towards adopting mechanistic-empirical concepts in the design of pavement structures, state-of-the-art mechanistic analysis methodologies are needed to determine accurate pavement responses, such as stress, strain, and deformation. Previous laboratory studies of pavement foundation geomaterials, i.e., unbound granular materials used in base/subbase layers and fine-grained soils of a prepared subgrade, have shown that the resilient responses followed by nonlinear, stress-dependent behavior under repeated wheel loading. This nonlinear behavior is commonly characterized by stress-dependent resilient modulus material models that need to be incorporated into finite element (FE) based mechanistic pavement analysis methods to predict more realistically predict pavement responses for a mechanistic pavement analysis. Developed user material subroutine using aforementioned resilient model with nonlinear solution technique and convergence scheme with proven performance were successfully employed in general-purpose FE program, ABAQUS. This numerical analysis was investigated in predicted critical responses and domain selection with specific mesh generation was implemented to evaluate better prediction of pavement responses. Results obtained from both axisymmetric and three-dimensional (3D) nonlinear FE analyses were compared and remarkable findings were described for nonlinear FE analysis. The UMAT subroutine performance was also validated with the instrumented full scale pavement test section study results from the Federal Aviation Administration's National Airport Pavement Test Facility (FAA's NAPTF).

The objective of this study is to develop the existing drainage system for catching the partial leakage of tunnel structures operating in cold region. The drainage system consists of drainage board, Hotty-gel as a waterproofing material, cover for preventing protrusion of Hotty-gel, air nailer, fixed nail, pipe for collecting ground leak, pipe for conveying ground leak, wire-mesh, and sprayed cement mortar. The drainage systems were installed in conventional concrete lining tunnels to evaluate the site applicability and constructability. The performances of waterproof and the drainage in the drainage system were evaluated by injecting 1,000 ml of red water in the back of the drainage system at 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, 28 days, 2 months, 3 months, 4 months, 5 months, 6 months, 7 months and 8 months. During 8 months of field test, the average daily temperature of the tunnel site was measured from $-16.0^{\circ}C$ to $25.6^{\circ}C$. The daily minimum temperature was $-21.3^{\circ}C$ and the daily maximum temperature was $30.8^{\circ}C$. There was no problem in waterproof and drainage performance of the drainage board in the drainage system. However, the pipe for conveying ground leak had the leakage problem from 14 days. It is considered that the leakage of the pipe for conveying ground leak was caused by the deformation of the pipe of the flexible plastic material having a thickness of 0.2 cm by using the high pressure air nailer and the fixing pin and the insufficient thickness and width of the hotty-gel for preventing the leakage.

Large dams, which are critical infrastructures for disaster prevention, are exposed to various risks such as aging, floods, and earthquakes. Better dam safety inspection and diagnosis using digital transformation technologies are needed. Traditional visual inspection methods by human inspectors have several limitations, including many inaccessible areas, danger of working at heights, and know-how based subjective inspections. In this study, drone photogrammetry was performed on two large dams to evaluate the applicability of digital data-based dam safety inspection and propose a data management methodology for continuous use. High-quality 3D digital models with GSD (ground sampling distance) within 2.5 cm/pixel were generated by flat double grid missions and manual photography methods, despite reservoir water surface and electromagnetic interferences, and severe altitude differences ranging from 42 m to 99.9 m of dam heights. Geometry profiles of the as-built conditions were easily extracted from the generated 3D mesh models, orthomosaic images, and digital surface models. The effectiveness of monitoring dam deformation by photogrammetry was confirmed. Cracks and deterioration of dam concrete structures, such as spillways and intake towers, were detected and visualized efficiently using the digital 3D models. This can be used for safe inspection of inaccessible areas and avoiding risky tasks at heights. Furthermore, a methodology for mapping the inspection result onto the 3D digital model and structuring a relational database for managing deterioration information history was proposed. As a result of measuring the labor and time required for safety inspection at the SYG Dam spillway, the drone photogrammetry method was found to have a 48% productivity improvement effect compared to the conventional manpower visual inspection method. The drone photogrammetry-based dam safety inspection is considered very effective in improving work productivity and data reliability.

Recent attention has been drawn to materials that undergo reversible expansion and contraction in response to external stimuli, leading to morphological changes. These materials hold potential applications in various fields including soft robotics, sensors, and artificial muscles. In this study, a novel material capable of responding to high temperatures for protection or encapsulation is proposed. To achieve this, liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) with nematic-isotropic transition properties and polyimide (PI) with high mechanical strength and thermal stability were utilized. To utilize a solution process, a dope solution was synthesized and introduced into micro-printing techniques to develop a two-dimensional pattern of LCE/PI bilayer structures with sub-millimeter widths. The honeycomb-patterned LCE/PI bilayer mesh combined the mechanical strength of PI with the high-temperature contraction behavior of LCE, and selective printing of LCE facilitated deformation in desired directions at high temperatures. Consequently, the functionality of selectively and reversibly encapsulating specific high-temperature materials was achieved. This study suggests potential applications in various actuator fields where functionalities can be implemented across different temperature ranges without the need for electrical energy input, contingent upon molecular changes in LCE.

Stow nets have widely been used in the western sea of Korea from the olden age. The original structure of a stow net is a large square-sectional bag net made of 4 netting panels, and the front fringes of top and bottom panels are connected to the top and bottom beams respectively. Wire ropes, which is originated from the holding anchor are gradually forked and biforked, and finally 4 pieces of wire rope (biforked pendants) are jointed to each beam. Much convenience caused by long and heavy beams were problemed, then some studies have been carried out to improve the net since 1930's. The most effective improvement were achieved in 1980 by Mr. Han and his colleagues. The key point of improvement was that the beams were removed and the belt shaped shearing device made by canvas was attached to the side panels, the head rope and ground rope to the front fringe of top and bottom panel, and biforked pendants are joined to the shearing device. Even though this is the epoch-making improvement of a stow net, the further study should be required to find out more effective method. The authors carried out a model experiment on the stow net to determine the vertical and horizontal opening of a net mouth, and also examine the front, top and side-view configuration of the net. The model net was constructed depending on the Similarity Law of Fishing Gear in 1/10 and 1/20 scale and set against to the current at shallow and speedy flowing channel. The vertical and horizontal openings were determined by using scaled bamboo poles, and the configuration was observed by using specially prepared observation platform and underwater observation glass, and also photographed by using specially prepared underwater photographic equipment. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The opening height and width of the shearing device varied in accordance with the relative length of the biforked pendants. Considering the height and width of shearing device in 6 cases of the arrangement system of biforked pendants, the best result was obtained in the case that the 2nd, 3rd and 4th pendents from the bottom-most was 5%, 9% and 4% longer than that. 2. On the top-view configuration the excessive deformation of head rope and ground rope were observed. In the actual net, 54m long head rope and ground rope were attached to the front fringe of top and bottom panels so that the head rope may be lifted to make the net mouth open highly. But actually the head rope and the ground rope are streamed backward without any lift, and also the netting followed the ropes were deformed until the 2/5 in the whole length of the net. This deformation may be guessed to disturb the entrance of fish school into the net and also caused the net to get caught by obstacles in the sea bed and to be broken largely. 3. Hydrodynamic resistance R of the actual net may be deduced as R(kg)=29.2$\times$103 v1.65. It is also expressed as R(kg)=5.9$\times$d/l$\times$ab v1.65. depending on the formula deduced by Koyama to estimate the resistance of trawl nets, where d/l denote the ratio between diameter of netting twine and length of mesh leg in every part of side panel, a and b, the stretched circumference of the mouth and the stretched length of the net, respectively.

This study presents the research results and current status of the DECOVALEX-2019 project Task B. Task B named 'Fault slip modelling' is aiming at developing a numerical method to simulate the coupled hydro-mechanical behavior of fault, including slip or reactivation, induced by water injection. The first research step of Task B is a benchmark simulation which is designed for the modelling teams to familiarize themselves with the problem and to set up their own codes to reproduce the hydro-mechanical coupling between the fault hydraulic transmissivity and the mechanically-induced displacement. We reproduced the coupled hydro-mechanical process of fault slip using TOUGH-FLAC simulator. The fluid flow along a fault was modelled with solid elements and governed by Darcy's law with the cubic law in TOUGH2, whereas the mechanical behavior of a single fault was represented by creating interface elements between two separating rock blocks in FLAC3D. A methodology to formulate the hydro-mechanical coupling relations of two different hydraulic aperture models and link the solid element of TOUGH2 and the interface element of FLAC3D was suggested. In addition, we developed a coupling module to update the changes in geometric features (mesh) and hydrological properties of fault caused by water injection at every calculation step for TOUGH-FLAC simulator. Then, the transient responses of the fault, including elastic deformation, reactivation, progressive evolutions of pathway, pressure distribution and water injection rate, to stepwise pressurization were examined during the simulations. The results of the simulations suggest that the developed model can provide a reasonable prediction of the hydro-mechanical behavior related to fault reactivation. The numerical model will be enhanced by continuing collaboration and interaction with other research teams of DECOLVAEX-2019 Task B and validated using the field data from fault activation experiments in a further study.

This study presents the research results of the BMT(Benchmark Model Test) simulations of the DECOVALEX-2019 project Task B. Task B named 'Fault slip modelling' is aiming at developing a numerical method to predict fault reactivation and the coupled hydro-mechanical behavior of fault. BMT scenario simulations of Task B were conducted to improve each numerical model of participating group by demonstrating the feasibility of reproducing the fault behavior induced by water injection. The BMT simulations consist of seven different conditions depending on injection pressure, fault properties and the hydro-mechanical coupling relations. TOUGH-FLAC simulator was used to reproduce the coupled hydro-mechanical process of fault slip. A coupling module to update the changes in hydrological properties and geometric features of the numerical mesh in the present study. We made modifications to the numerical model developed in Task B Step 1 to consider the changes in compressibility, Permeability and geometric features with hydraulic aperture of fault due to mechanical deformation. The effects of the storativity and transmissivity of the fault on the hydro-mechanical behavior such as the pressure distribution, injection rate, displacement and stress of the fault were examined, and the results of the previous step 1 simulation were updated using the modified numerical model. The simulation results indicate that the developed model can provide a reasonable prediction of the hydro-mechanical behavior related to fault reactivation. The numerical model will be enhanced by continuing interaction and collaboration with other research teams of DECOVALEX-2019 Task B and validated using the field experiment data in a further study.
