  • In this paper, we proposed a new instruction set(X32Y ISA) with 3 different types of instruction mode. The proposed instruction set organizes 32-bit, 24-bit, 16-bit instruction in order to solves a problem of memory size limitation in an embedded microprocessor. We designed a 32-bit 5 stage pipeline RISC microprocessor based on the X32V ISA. To verify the proposed the X32V ISA and a microprocessor, we estimated a program code size of multimedia application programs using a X32V simulator. In result, we verified that the Light mode and the Ultra Light mode obtains 8%, 27% reduction of a program code size through comparison with the Default mode. The proposed microprocessor was verified all X32V instructions execution at Xilinx FPGA with 33MHz operating frequency,

  • This paper proposes a movement instruction system using virtual environment. This system consists of a monitor, cameras, ana a PC. A learner is coached by a virtual instructor that is displayed in virtual environment as 3 dimensional computer graphics on the monitor. Virtual instructor shows sample movement and suggests mistakes of learner's movement by recognizing movement of learner's movement from the picture that cameras capture. To improve the robust characteristic of information from cameras, the system enables to select optimum inputs from cameras based on learner's movement It implemented by Fuzzy associative inference system Fuzzy associative inference system is implemented by bi-directional associative memory and fuzzy rules. It is suitable to convert obscure information into clear. We implement and evaluate the movement instruction system

  • In this paper, we present an efficient instruction set architecture using vector register file hardware to accelerate operation of general matrix-vector operations in DSP microprocessor. The technique enables in-situ row-access as well as column access to the register files. It can reduce the number of memory access significantly. The technique is especially useful for block-based video signal processing kernels such as FFT/IFFT, DCT/IDCT, and two-dimensional filtering. We have applied the new instruction set architecture to in-loop deblocking filter processing in H.264 decoder. Performance comparisons show that the required load/store operations for the in-loop deblocking filter can be reduced about 42%. The architecture would improve the processing speed, and code density in DSP microprocessor especially for video signal processing substantially.

  • This paper proposes high performance coprocessor architecture for real time dense disparity computation based on a phase-based binocular stereo matching technique called local weighted phase-correlation(LWPC). The algorithm combines the robustness of wavelet based phase difference methods and the basic control strategy of phase correlation methods, which consists of 4 stages. For parallel and efficient hardware implementation, the proposed architecture employs SIMD(Single Instruction Multiple Data Stream) architecture for each functional stage and all stages work on pipelined mode. Such that the newly devised pipelined linear array processor is optimized for the case of row-column image processing eliminating the need for transposed memory while preserving generality and high throughput. The proposed architecture is implemented with Xilinx HDL tool and the required hardware resources are calculated in terms of look up tables, flip flops, slices, and the amount of memory. The result shows the possibility that the proposed architecture can be integrated into one chip while maintaining the processing speed at video rate.

  • Processing a large amount of data becomes more important than ever. Particularly, the information queries which require multi-dimensional record scan can be efficiently implemented with SIMD instruction sets. In this article, we present a SIMD record scan technique which employs row-based scanning. Our technique is different from existing SIMD techniques for predicate processes and aggregate operations. Those techniques apply SIMD instructions to the attributes in the same column of the database, exploiting the column-based record organization of the in-memory database systems. Whereas, our SIMD technique is useful for multi-dimensional record scanning. As the sizes of registers and the memory become larger, our row-based SIMD scan can have bigger impact on the performance. Moreover, since our technique is orthogonal to the parallelization techniques for multi-core processors, it can be applied to both uni-processors and multi-core processors without too many changes in the software architectures.

  • In this paper we present a microprocessor-based interpolator using algebraic arithmetic method. The interpolator consists of 2910 "bit-slice" microprocessor chips and 0.5K ROMs of microprogram memory. The system design is an instruction-data-based architecture with 250ns cycle time. A significant feature of the interpolator is that it has flexibility, very fast interpolatioon speed of (max) 250K pulses/sec, and performs additional functions simultaneously. Throughout the paper detailed explanations are given as to how one can design the hardware and software of the interpolator efficently. In addi- tion to hardware and software design, experimental results are pressented.ressented.

  • This paper presents a high-performance elliptic curve cryptographic processor over $GF(2^m)$. The proposed design adopts Lopez-Dahab Montgomery algorithm for elliptic curve point multiplication and uses Gaussian normal basis for $GF(2^m)$ field arithmetic operations. We select m=163 which is the smallest value among five recommended $GF(2^m)$ field sizes by NIST and it is Gaussian normal basis of type 4. The proposed elliptic curve cryptographic processor consists of host interface, data memory, instruction memory, and control. We implement the proposed design using Xilinx XCV2000E FPGA device. Based on the FPGA implementation results, we can see that our design is 2.6 times faster and requires significantly less hardware resources compared with the previously proposed best hardware implementation.

  • The development of memory design and process technology enabled the production of high density memory. As the weight of embedded memory within aggregate Systems-On-Chips(SoC) gradually increases to 80-90% of the number of total transistors, the importance of testing embedded dual-port memories in SoC increases. This paper proposes a new micro-code based programmable memory Built-In Self-Test(PMBIST) architecture for dual-port memories that support test various test algorithms. In addition, various test algorithms including March based algorithms and dual-port memory test algorithms are efficiently programmed through the proposed algorithm instruction set. This PMBIST has an optimized hardware overhead, since test algorithm can be implemented with the minimum bits by the optimized algorithm instructions.

  • Memory errors can cause not only program malfunctions but also even unexpected system halt. Though a programmer checks memory errors, some memory errors with low occurrence frequency are missed to detect. In this paper, we propose a method for effectively detecting such memory errors using instruction transition diagrams through analyzing assembly codes obtained by disassembling an executable file. Out of various memory errors, local memory return errors, null pointer access errors and uninitialized pointer access errors are targeted for detection. When applying the proposed method to various programs including well-known open source programs such as Apache web server and PHP script interpreter, some potential memory errors are detected.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of memory retention of mathematical concepts in multiplication in the inquiry-based pantomime instructions. Three months later after the pre-test, a comparison was made between traditional class (TC) and class with the inquiry-based pantomime (IP) approach in terms of students retention of mathematical understandings. Results of the study indicated that the If instructions promoted effective long-term retention of knowledge. We concluded that instructional strategies that promoted active engagement in learning using life examples and drawings produced effective long-term retention of knowledge.
