소각재 용융슬래그의 건설재료로서 재활용시 적합성 평가 (The evaluation of the compatibility of recycling melting slag from incinerator ashes as construction materials)

  • Melting is one of the most effective treatments for stabilizing heavy metals and also creates high value by-products. In this study, authors evaluated the leaching characteristics of heavy metals in melting slag obtained from incinerator ashes. In order to evaluate the environmental compatibility of the recycled melting slag, the samples analysed various leaching tests of heavy metals were raw incinerator ashes, melting slag and the construction materials recycled from melting slag. As the results: (1) The leaching concentrations of tile melting slag were lower than those of the raw incinerator ashes in the experiment performed in accordance with Korea Standard Leaching Test (KSLT). (2) The result of leaching test with the method of RG Min-StB 93. FGSV Forschungsgesellschaft fur Stra $\beta$ en- und Verkehrswesen) met the requirements in German. (3) The compressive strengths of mortar samples used for evaluating the feasibility of recycling the melting slag as construction materials also showed the suitable range for recycling (4) Melting slag was considered the stable materials with respect to the chemical stability against chemical solutions with various pH conditions.

  • A pilot scale (200kg/hr) pyrolysis melting incineration system is designed and constructed in Korea Institute of Industrial Technology. The incineration process is composed of pyrolysis, gas combustion, ash melting, gas stabilization, waste heating boiler, and bag filter. For each unit process, experimental approaches have been conducted to find optimal design and operating conditions. Especially, a pyrolysis is very important process in that it is a way of energy recirculation and minimizing the waste products. This paper presents major results of the most efficient operating conditions in a pilot scale pyrolysis melting incinerator.

소각재 용융슬래그의 중금속 용출특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Leaching Characteristics of the Heavy Metal in Melting Slag of Incinerator Ashes)

  • 용융처리는 중금속을 안정화시키는 효과적인 방법의 하나이며, 또한 고가의 부산물을 생산해낸다. 본 연구에서는 소각재를 용융하여 얻은 슬래그의 중금속 용출특성을 평가하고자 한다. 슬래그를 재활용하는데 있어서 환경적인 적합성을 평가하기 위하여 소각재, 슬래그 및 슬래그를 재활용재로 하여 제조한 건설재료에 대한 용출시험을 수행하였다. 시험결과는 다음과 같다. (1) 국내표준용출시험법(KSLT)에 의해 시험한 슬래그의 중금속 용출농도는 소각재의 용출농도보다 낮은 값을 나타냈다. (2) 장기용출시험법에 의해 평가한 슬래그의 중금속 용출농도도 KSLT의 기준을 만족했다. (3) 슬래그의 건설재료로서의 사용성을 평가하기 위해 만든 모르타르 공시체의 용출결과, 슬래그를 재활용재로서 사용하는데 있어서 중금속 용출 측면에서 적합하다고 사료된다. (4) 독일의 소각재 재활용을 위한 가이드라인인 RG Min-StB 93, FGSV에서 제시하는 방법에 의해 시험한 결과, 본 슬래그의 용출농도는 독일의 규제기준을 만족하였다.

  • A novel pyrolysis-melting incineration system of reduced scale (30 kg/hr) is and constructed in Korea Institute of Industrial Technology. The incineration process is composed of three parts: pyrolysis, gas combustion and ash melting processes. For each unit process, experimental and numerical approaches including reduced-scale cold/hot flow tests have been conducted to find optimal design and operating conditions. This paper presents major results of these approaches with brief descriptions on the pilot-scale incinerator (200 kg/hr) under construction and future research works.

도시쓰레기 소각로 비산재 용융결정화 및 용출특성 (Crystallization of the Fly Ash from Municipal Incinerator)

  • These days, interest in the leaching of hazardous heavy metals to consist of incinerator fly ash is increasing, because the heavy metals that leach from the incinerator fly ash pollute the soil and ground water. Therefore this study was undertaken to crystallize the fly ash and prevent the leaching of hazardous heavy metals from fly ash. The concentrations and the leaching concentration of hazardous heavy metals(Cd, Cr, Hg, Pb, Zn) in the law incinerator fly ash have been measured. The fly ash was melted with two kinds of flux($Na_2CO_3, CaCO_3$) and its add quantity(0, 1, 2, 3 wt%). The crystal structure of melting materials was analyzed by SEM(Scaning Electron Microscope) and X-RD(X-Ray Diffractometer). The leaching test of melting materials was undertaken. And the relation between crystallization of melting materials and flux and leaching concentration. These experiments indicate that the concentration and leaching concentration of heavy metals in incinerator fly ash was much higher than the regulatory standard for leachates in Korea and U.S.A and average concentration of heavy metals in soil. And the crystal structure was better.

  • In this study, we investigated characteristics of a gas flow and a combustion property during the combustion of a RDF in a pyrolysis melting incinerator with disposal rate of 30 kg/hr. The RDF was pyrolyzed through the pyrolysis chamber at $600^{\circ}C$ of the chamber surface without oxygen condition. The pyrolysis gas was injected in the combustion chamber. It was burned by means of the staged combustion that was injecting secondary and tertiary air in the combustor. We measured the temperatures and the gas components in the combustion chamber while maintaining the air-fuel ratio of 1.3. Finally, we confirm that additional air injection, secondary and tertiary air ratio, was the most important factor to reduce NOx.

  • In the present paper we studied experimentally fundamental optimization of oxygen enriched pyrolysis melting incinerator, Characteristics of this system was confirmed dealing with the gas flow and combustion properties for the inside secondary air injection. The experiment setup has a disposal rate of 30kg/hr which was measured by the inside temperature and gas. Along with above experiments, the three-dimensional computation was employed to analyse the combustion fluid dynamics and gas residence time. Equations for turbulence and heat - transmission as well as chemical reactions were solved by using common codes. The experimental combustion chamber was composed of staged combustion types structure for reducing NOx. Finally, it was verified that the control of the secondary air and air ratio of thermo stack were important. In the computational analysis, it showed reasonable agreement with the experimental results regarding the temperature and discharged gas concentration.

  • The large amount of energy is consumed in a process for keeping the high temperature melting pool. For this reason, in addition to the wastes input to keep the high temperature melting pool, it is necessary for an auxiliary fuel and LOx to throw into the melting pool. So in this study, using a new melting furnace system, the experiments to keep the melting pool with minimal energy without throwing an auxiliary fuel and LOx was carried out. Also it is hoped that the results of the experiment will be available to analyze keeping a melting pool and behavior in a melting furnace.

  • Ash melting chamber is one of the key facility of the pyrolysis-melting incineration system, and it should be designed and operated very carefully for avoiding solidification of slag. In this study, an example of numerical and experimental scale-up process of the melting chamber, in which high speed air is injected to the molten slag and generates bubbles, which enhances agitation of the slag and char combustion, is presented. Cold flow test, combustion and melting test in a lab-scale (30 kg/hr) chamber and a pilot scale (200 kg/hr) chamber. Minimum energy for maintaining molten slag is derived, and it was found that the molten slag can be maintained efficiently by concentrating heat into the bubbling slag.

다량 Cl성분이 함유된 플라이 애쉬로부터 유리화 및 결정화 현상 (Crystallization Phenomina and Vetrification From a Fly Ash With Large Content of Cl)

  • To recycle waste materials, this work was focused on development of glass-ceramic from incinerator fly ash with a large content of Cl and its physical property was evaluated. In the process, water washing as a pre-treatment before melting the fly ash was used to remove large amount of Cl component in the ash and to reduce melting temperature. As a result, glass was obtained at below $100^{\circ}C$ compared to the melting temperature before washing the ash. Also, internal crystallization occurred under single stage heat treatment (at $850-950^{\circ}C$ for 20-340min) without adding other materials into the ash. It was shown that the glass-ceramic was composed of four crystals, diopside, anorthite, akermanite, and unknown phase. Hardness of 8.3GPa was found in the glass-ceramic, which is a high value compared to reported others. Thus, the present process suggests that a good glass-ceramic produced from an incinerator ash could be applicable for structural materials in terms of economic and environmental points.
