Petroleum coke (petcoke) is widely used, next to coal, as a gasification feedstock. In gasification processes, the viscosity of the ash and the formation of crystalline phases must be understood to ensure the continuous removal of slag. This study investigates the effect of CaO and V2O3 on petcoke slag viscosity. The viscosity of the molten slag was measured in the temperature range of 1100~1600 ℃ while varying the concentration of each component. The crystalline phases formed in a cooled slag were examined. The most slag samples tested in this study exhibited crystalline slag behavior. The increased CaO concentration resulted in a lower viscosity and a lower Tcv. The viscosity behavior changed from the glassy to crystalline slag and also showed a higher Tcv as the concentration of V2O3 increases. Most slag samples showed different crystalline phases from top to bottom. Anorthites and Ca-V phases were observed in the top and middle section, while the bottom section mainly showed V2O3 and anorthite. The vanadium in the ash forms Ca-V and V-Fe phases and also remains in molten slag. A low melting Ca-V phase can contribute to lowering the viscosity.

We investigated the electrochemical behavior of Sn (93.0 %)-Ag (4.06 %)-Cu (0.89 %) during electrolysis of Pb-free solder waste to recover tin and silver. A thin strip of the solder waste produced by high-temperature melting and casting was used as a working electrode to perform electrochemical analysis. During anodic polarization, the current peak of an active region decreased with an increase in the concentration of sulfuric acid used as an electrolyte. This resulted in the electro-dissolution of the working electrode in the electrolyte (1.0 molL-1 sulfuric acid) for a constant current study. The study revealed that the thickening of an anode slime layer at the working surface continuously increased the electrode potential of the working electrode. At 10 mAcm-2, the dissolution reaction continued for 25 h. By contrast, at 50 mAcm-2, a sharp increase in the electrode potential stopped the dissolution in 2.5 h. During dissolution, silver enrichment in the anode slime reached 94.3% in the 1 molL-1 sulfuric acid electrolyte containing a 0.3 molL-1 chlorine ion, which was 12.7% higher than that without chlorine addition. Moreover, the chlorine enhanced the stability of the dissolved tin ions in the electrolyte as well as the current efficiency of tin electro-deposition at the counter electrode.
Four types of fluid inclusions are trapped within tourmaline from Daeyou pegmatite, Jangsu-Gun, Jeonllabukdo. They range $5{\sim}100\;{\mu}m$ in size and are grouped into I, II, III, and IV based on the phase behavior at the room temperature: (1) Type I inclusions are liquid-rich and NaCl equivalent salinity ranged $0{\sim}12\;wt%$, and the homogenization temperatures (Th) ranged $181{\sim}230^{\circ}C$ with eutectic temperatures (Te) $-54{\sim}-22^{\circ}C$. (2) Type II inclusions are vapor-rich and salinity ranged $3{\sim}8\;wt%$ NaCl, and Th ranged $177{\sim}304^{\circ}C$ also showing Te $-54{\sim}-29^{\circ}C$. (3) Type III inclusions contain a halite daughter mineral with $31{\sim}40\;wt%$ NaCl, Th $230{\sim}328^{\circ}C$. More than 90% of Type III homogenize by halite dissolution and are spatially associated with silicate melt inclusions. (4) Type IV inclusions are $CO_{2}$-bearing containing various daughter minerals such as sylvite and/or halite. The density of $CO_{2}$ system within the Type IV is $0.80{\sim}0.75\;g/cm^{3}$, Th $190{\sim}317^{\circ}C$, and salinity $2{\sim}35\;wt%$ NaCl. Type III fluid inclusions, considered as the earliest fluid, formed from the fluid exsolved from the crystallizing pegmatite. It is suggested that Type II fluid in the central part of tourmaline were exsolved earlier than Type I fluids in the margin indicating salinity fluctuation during the growth of tourmaline. It implies the fluctuation of the pressure since the salinity of fluid exsolved from the crystallizing melt is governed by the pressure. The last fluid was Type IV, which may be derived from the nearby limestone and metasedimentary rocks. It is suggested that Daeyou pegmatite containing muscovite without miarolitic cavities was formed by the partial melting resulted from the regional metamorphism. Subsequently, the exsolving fluids from the crystallizing melt were trapped in tourmaline at high pressure condition. The exsolved fluids contain various components such as $CaCl_{2}\;and\;MgCl_{2}$ as well as NaCl and KCl. The exsolution began at least at $2.7{\sim}5.3\;kbar\;and\;230{\sim}328^{\circ}C$ with the pressure fluctuation.

3 kinds of fine powder, Fe-2%Ni alloy powder(N Ltd.) and Fe+2%Ni mixed powder(B Ltd. and S Ltd.), were fabricated into sintered compacts of bending strength specimens and ring type specimens by metal injection molding, debinding and controlling sintering conditions (reduction and sintering atmospheres, sintering temperature, sintering time and cooling rates). Density and magnetic properties of the sintered compacts were evaluated with the following conclusions. (1) When each compact was hold at 1123K for 3.6ks in H2 and sintered at 1623K for 14.4ks in Ar, the density of N, B and S Ltd.'s sintered compacts were measured as 96, 99 and 99%, and oxygen/carbon contents were measured as 0.0041%O/0.0006%C, 0.0027%O/0.0022%C, and 0.160%O/0.0026%C, respectively. (2) Magnetic characteristics of B Ltd. compact in Ar with the best results showed $B_{25}=14.3KG$, $B_r=7.75KG$, and $H_c=2.1Oe$, but not enough as those made by melting process. (3) Magnetic properties of B Ltd. compact which were sintered at 1673K for 14.4ks in Ar gas, and cooled at $0.83Ks^{-1}$ to 1123K and then cooled at $0.083Ks^{-1}$ down to room temperature were measured as $B_{25}=14.8KG$, $B_r=8.3KG$, and $H_c=1.3Oe$, almost similar to those made by melting process. Objected soft magnetic materials properties were obtained through sintering process by controlling sintering conditions (reduction condition, sintering atmosphere, sintering temperature and sintering time) and cooling rates.

The potassium cream soap with fatty acid called cleaning foam has a crystal gel structure, and unlike an emulsion system, it is weak to shear stress and shows characteristics that are easily separated under high temperature storage conditions. The crystal gel structure of cleansing foams is significantly influenced by the nature and proportion of fatty acids, degree of neutralization, and the nature and proportion of polyols. In order to investigate the effect of these parameters on the crystal gel structure, a ternary system consisting of water/KOH/fatty acid was investigated in this study. The investigation of differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) revealed that the eutectic point was found at the ratio of myristic acid (MA) : stearic acid (SA) = 3 : 1 and ternary systems were the most stable at the eutectic point. However, the increase in fatty acid content had little effect on stability. On the basis of viscosity and polarized optical microscopy (POM) measurements, the optimum degree of neutralization was found to be about 75%. The system was stable when the melting point (Tm) of the ternary system was higher than the storage temperature and the crystal phase was transferred to lamellar gel phase, but the increase in fatty acid content had little effect on stability. The addition of polyols to the ternary system played an important role in changing the Tm and causing phase transition. The structure of the cleansing foams were confirmed through cryogenic scanning electron microscope (Cryo-SEM), small and wide angle X-ray scattering (SAXS and WAXS) analysis. Since butylene glycol (BG), propylene glycol (PG), and dipropylene glycol (DPG) lowered the Tm and hindered the lamellar gel formation, they were unsuitable for the formation of stable cleansing foam. In contrast, glycerin, PEG-400, and sorbitol increased the Tm, and facilitated the formation of lamellar gel phase, which led to a stable ternary system. Glycerin was found to be the most optimal agent to prepare a cleansing foam with enhanced stability.

Alumina powder have been expanded its application in industry and required to control its morphology such as powder size and aspect ratio of single particle. It can be synthesized by molten - salt method which is possible to obtain various shapes of ceramic particles by controlling the growth direction because each crystal face has different growth rate. In this study, various combinations of salts such as NaCl, $Na_2SO_4$, $Na_3PO_4$ and their mixture were used for control the growth of plate like alumina particle from the initial stage of synthesis because salt having different ionic strength can control the growth direction of ceramic particle under its melting condition around $800{\sim}900^{\circ}C$, and growth behavior of plate-like alumina particle with different reaction conditions such as temperature and concentration on the crystal size and shape was studied.
Sandwich panels which are having the both sides are bonded with a heat insulating material with an iron plate are used as factories, warehouse structures as advantages of convenience in construction at economic efficiency of material cost. However, in a panel structure constructed by continuous joining of sandwich panels, a joint portion where a panel and a panel are connected is generated. The joint part is a part which is easily vulnerable to fire because flames easily flow into the melting and deformation of the iron plate during fire. The flames flowing into the panel induce diffusion of fire by rapid burning, causing damage of human life and property. In this research, we developed a flame spread prevention plate to prevent spreading of sandwich panel. This is an improvement of the workability by the anti-spreading construction method of the existing previous research, it can be applied independently to the connecting part where the panel and the panel are coupled, designed to prevent inflow and spreading of flame did. The actual fire test of the test method of KS F ISO 13784-1 of the sandwich panel specimen was conducted and the burning behavior corresponding to the presence or absence of application of the flame spread prevention plate was grasped at the panel connection part and its effect was measured. Inserting a fire spreading plate into the test result panel connecting part is measured by delaying the flashover, prevention of collapse of the specimen, and temperature rise of the opening, effectively improving the fire safety of the panel structure It was confirmed as a method that can be secured. It is judged that panel structure will contribute to ensuring fire safety by applying the fire spread prevention construction method of various methods ensuring the workability and economy of panel connection vulnerable to fire.

This study investigated the effects of the addition of Zn, Ca, and SiC on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-Al alloys. The tensile properties of homogenized Mg-xAl (x = 6, 7, 8, and 9 wt.%) alloys increased with increasing Zn content by the solid-solution strengthening effect. However, when the added Zn content exceeded the solubility limit, the strength and ductility of the alloys decreased greatly owing to premature fracture caused by undissolved coarse particles or local melting. Among the Mg-xAl-yZn alloys tested in this study, the AZ74 alloy showed the best tensile properties. However, from the viewpoints of the thermal stability, castability, and tensile properties, the AZ92 alloy was deemed to be the most suitable cast alloy. Moreover, the addition of a small amount (0.17 wt.%) of SiC reduced the average grain size of the AZ91 alloy significantly, from $430{\mu}m$ to $73{\mu}m$. As a result, both the strength and the elongation of the AZ91 alloy increased considerably by the grain-boundary hardening effect and the suppression of twinning behavior, respectively. On the other hand, the addition of Ca (0.5-1.5 wt.%) and a combined addition of Ca (0.5-1.5 wt.%) and SiC (0.17 wt.%) increased the average grain size of the AZ91 alloy, which resulted in a decrease in its tensile properties. The SiC-added AZ92 alloy exhibited excellent tensile properties (YS 125 MPa, UTS 282 MPa, and EL 12.3%), which were much higher than those of commercial AZ91 alloy (YS 93 MPa, UTS 192 MPa, and EL 7.0%). The fluidity of the SiC-added AZ92 alloy was slightly lower than that of the AZ91 alloy because of the expansion of the solid-liquid coexistence region in the former. However, the SiC-added AZ92 alloy showed better hot-tearing resistance than the AZ91 alloy owing to its refined grain structure.
An ester-carbonate copolymer was synthesized, in which carbonate was inserted into a biodegradable aliphatic polyester, poly(butylene succinate) (PBS), to modify its mechanical properties. The synthesis was carried out by condensation reactions in two steps. In the first step, oligo(butylene succinate) was prepared by the reaction of succinic acid with 1,4-butanediol (BD). In the second step, it was reacted with oligohexamethylenecarbonate diol (OHMCG) to prepare the ester-carbonate copolymer. Titanium(IV) isopropoxide (TIP) was used as a catalyst for the reaction. The structure of the copolymer was confirmed by FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR and the thermal behavior and mechanical properties were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and universal testing machine (UTM), respectively. It was found that optimum amount of the catalyst for the formation of high molecular weight copolymer was 1wt% for succinic acid. When the BD:OHMCG is in the range 149:1~249:1, the copolymer with high viscosity was obtained. As the OHMCG content was increased, melting temperature ($T_m$) of the copolymer was decreased. When BD:OHMCG is 149:1, the copolymer showed a increase in ultimate strain by two times and the slight decrease in modulus compared to those of PBS.

The crucibles of Baekje Kingdom from the Ssangbukri Site which were used for glass and metal melting had light brown, grayish blue and grayish brown colored bodies. In thin section, the crucibles contained numerous quartz grains and pottery fragments. The surface was covered with fine grained quartz for thermal resistance. Based on decomposition of mica group minerals and formation of mullite detected by X-ray diffraction analysis, it was inferred that all crucibles have been fired over $1,000^{\circ}C$. It was also found that firing temperature has exceeded $1,100^{\circ}C$ in some crucibles because feldspar was not detected. The maximum temperature was assumed at $1,200^{\circ}C$. The magnetic susceptibility values and geochemical characteristics sorted out the crucibles into two groups that differed from the characteristics of the local soils. This reflected geological setting of the site where the alluvium was formed from two kinds of surrounding rock masses, granite gneiss and biotite granite. However, the local soils had similarities with the crucibles in weathering degree and geochemical behavior of major elements. In consequence, it was considered that the raw clay of the crucibles was supplied from the local area of the site.
