We propose a transverse load sensor with reconfigurable measurement accuracy based on a microwave photonic filter in the $K_u$ band, incorporating a polarization-maintaining fiber Bragg grating. A prototype sensor with a reconfigurable measurement accuracy tuning range from 6.09 to 9.56 GHz/(N/mm), and corresponding minimal detectable load range from 0.0167 to 0.0263 N/mm, is experimentally demonstrated. The results illustrate that up to 40% manufacturing error in the grating length can be dynamically calibrated to the same corresponding measurement accuracy for the proposed transverse load sensor, by controlling the semiconductor optical amplifier's injection current in the range of 154 to 419 mA.

The electronic distance measurement instrument, first introduced in the 1950s has, since those early days, undergone continual refinement. Rapid advances in related technologies have provided lighter, smaller and more precise equipment. Understanding for the principle, the standardized observation technique and the precision of EDM instrument is mostly important to improve the quality and the reliability of by-product in the field of engineering and industrial surveying. Simple and accurate calibration is regularly and periodically necessary to maintenance the precision of EDM instrument. This paper describes the calculated example of zero error and scale error as a correction of EDM by applying the least square method to baseline observations. Here we deals also with the testing criteria for precision instrument testing according to different types of EDM instruments.
SCPI(Standard Commands for Programmable Instrument) is a standard command sets designed for controlling various types of instruments. In order to control FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) analyzing device using SCPI it is required to support sweep measurement function. We defined SCPI command set for FFT analysis and developed parser of defined command set using lex(Lexical Analyzer Generator) and yacc(Yet Another Compiler Compiler). After developing FFT analyzing test was performed with that parser. Up to audible signal frequency the result of FFT analysis was accurate and that result was agree with that of conventional FFT analyzer. As a result it is proved that various types of instruments including sweep measurement instrument can be controlled with appropriate SCPI command sets. Also when developing new instruments the method used in this experiment will contribute to reducing the time required to develop the SCPI parser and increasing reliability.
The purpose of this study was to develop the environmental sensitivity(ES) measurement instrument and to apply for middle school students. The questionnaire was developed to evaluate ES. The developed questionnaire consists of 15 items in 5 categories. Each item of the instrument was developed through the conceptional analysis of the definition of ES. The 5 categories included natural environment, activity at natural environment, artificial environment, environmental pollution, environmental destruction. Data for this study were collected from 397 middle school students including 46 environmental class and 351 non-environmental class students. It was found that the developed instrument to measure ES was valid and reliable. Reliability coefficient, Cronbach $\alpha$ was 0.75. Using the developed instrument of ES, the ES was measured for the students of experimental group to which a inqury-based EE model was applied. The result was that the effect of ES of the students of the experimental group was not statistically significant. Futher research is needed related to the EE model based on the inquiry learning model and measurement of environmental sensitivity.
We measured two-dimensional (2-D) oxygen distribution in the surface sediment layer of intertidal sediment using a simple and inexpensive planar oxygen optode, which is based on a color ratiometric image approach. The recorded emission intensity of red color luminophore light significantly changed with oxygen concentration by $O_2$ quenching of platinum(II)octaethylporphyrin (PtOEP). The ratios between the intensity of red and green emissions with oxygen concentration variation demonstrated the Stern-Volmer relationship. The 2-D oxygen distribution image showed microtopographic structure, diffusivity boundary layer and burrow in surface sediment layer. The oxygen penetration depth (OPD) was about 2 mm and the one-dimensional vertical diffusive oxygen uptake (DOU) was 12.6 mmol $m^{-2}d^{-1}$ in the undisturbed surface sediment layer. However, those were enhanced near burrow by benthic fauna, and the OPD was two times deeper and DOU was increased by 34%. The simple and inexpensive oxygen planar optode has great application potential in the study of oxygen dynamics with high spatiotemporal resolution, in benthic boundary layers.
Objective : This study was conducted to review about instrument for bilateral upper extremity assessment. Methods : We searched published papers in Medline database. The keywords used in the search were 'upper extremity' and 'motor activity', 'activities of daily living' and 'assessment', 'instrument', 'disability evaluations'. In total of 68 papers, 44 assessment instruments was extracted. We analyzed about numbers, subjects, methods, reliability, validity, responsiveness of assessment instruments about bilateral upper limb function comparing unilateral, combined bilateral and unilateral instruments. Results : The numbers of bilateral measurement tool were 2 in a total of upper extremity measurement tools. Also, subjects were patients with stroke and measurement was based on performance. The reliability, validity and responsiveness of tools were high. Conclusions : Futher study will be needed to development and research about instrument of bilateral upper extremity.
Purpose: This study was conducted in order to develop an instrument for the Korean Osteoarthritis Impact Measurement scale (KAIMS) in hip and knee osteoarthritis patients. Methods: A sample of 426 subjects was recruited in Ulsan metropolitan city (six hospitals and clinics) and Andong city (five hospitals and clinics) from June 2010 to May 2011. Item internal consistency and item discriminant validity were analyzed on the item-level, and floor (%) and ceiling (%) effect were analyzed on the scale-level. Exploratory factor analysis was performed for construction of items in the KAIMS instrument; confirmative factor analysis was also performed to test the fit of the model. Results: In 426 respondents, age was 64.3 years. The reliability for r coefficient 0.90 (mobility) and 0.89 (pain and stiffness) (Cronbach's alpha 0.95, 0.95 respectively) was high in the test-retest, and there was no significant difference in paired t-test (p>0.05). Item internal consistency (${\alpha}=0.92$, ${\alpha}=0.87$ respectively) was also high. It was constructed of two factors (mobility, pain and stiffness dimension) and nine items in explanatory factor analysis; results of confirmatory factor analysis also indicated that the dimensional structure model was fitted well in the test of model fit (${\chi}^2=83.83$, df=26, p=0.000; RMR=0.05; GFI=0.96; AGFI=0.83). Conclusion: In conclusion, the results of this study showed that the KAIMS that was developed was a reliable and valid instrument for measurement of osteoarthritis (OA) patients. We recommend further research for additional development of the instrument on OA in Korea.
In this paper, we present a model to calculate the influence of the measurement spot diameter MSD on the viewing angle measurements using a conoscopic instrument. This model is verified experimentally using an EZContrast instrument and the requirements for next generation of displays are presented. We show that last generation of EZContrast XL88W and L80W allowing measurement spot diameter up to 6mm can fulfill the requirements for all the FPD generations up to 80 inches diagonal.
Objective: To develop a standardized instrument to measure the level of cognition for orthodontic treatment in adults, and verify its reliability and validity for assessing perceptions of orthodontic treatment in adults. Methods: A total of 406 adults aged 19-64 years were surveyed by an internet research system. A tool was developed through the instrument development and verification stages. The data were analyzed by correlation analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and Cronbach's α test. Results: The instrument consisted of 11 items covering four factors related to orthodontic treatment. Three items were related to general perception, four described the perception of the treatment for adults, two related to the treatment effects, and two related to the retention of orthodontic treatment. In the reliability test, Cronbach's α was 0.845 for the 11 items. In assessments for individual components, Cronbach's α was 0.764 for the general perception of orthodontic treatment, 0.705 for the perception of this treatment for adults, 0.707 for the effects of the treatment, and 0.701 for the retention of orthodontic treatment. Finally, a measurement instrument for the perception of orthodontic treatment in adults was designed to assess the 11 items on a four-point Likert scale. Conclusions: This study developed a standard measurement instrument for assessing the perception of orthodontic treatment in adults. The proposed instrument will enable additional studies on the influence of an adult's perception of orthodontic treatment on the decision to undergo treatment.
