  • In order to choose proper dispersion model and emission factors suitable in Korea in evaluating the effect of pollutants emitted by the vehicles in highway on nearby area, various road dispersion models and vehicle emission factors were reviewed. With theoretical inter-comparisons of the exiting models for line source, CALINE 3 and CALINE 4 models which were suggested by US EPA were selected as the road dispersion models for further evaluation with the measurement. The emission factors suggested by Korean Ministry of Environment was turned out to be appropriate since the classification of vehicle kinds was simple and easy to apply in Korea. The comparisons of predicted concentrations by CALINE 3 and 4 models with the measurements in flat, fill and bridge road types showed that CO and PM-10 were in good agreements with experiments and the differences between CALINE 3 and 4 models are negligible. The model concentrations of $NO_2$ by CALINE 4 were also in good agreement with the measurement but those by CALINE 3 were over-predicted. The discrepancies in CALINE 3 model were due to rapid decay reaction of $NO_2$ near the highway, which was not included in CALINE 3 model. For the road type with one & two side cutting grounds, the similar patterns as the flat & fill road type for CO, PM10, & $NO_2$ were observed but the number of data for comparison in these cases were not enough to draw the conclusion. These results lead to the conclusion that CALINE4 model is proper in road environmental impact assessment near the highway in flat, fill and bridge road types.

  • Estimation of groundwater inflow into underground opening is of critical importance for the design and construction of underground structures. Groundwater inflow into a pilot underground storage facility in China was estimated using analytical equations, numerical modeling and field measurement. The applicability of analytical and numerical methods was examined by comparing the estimated and measured results. Field geological investigation indicated that in local scale the high groundwater inflows are associated with the appearance of open joints, fractured zone or dykes induced by shear and/or tensile tectonic stresses. It was found that 8 groundwater inflow spots with high inflow rates account for about 82% of the total rate for the 9 caverns. On the prediction of the magnitude of groundwater inflow rate, it was found that could both (Finite Element Method) FEM and (Discrete Element Method) DEM perform better than analytical equations, due to the fact that in analytical equations simplified assumptions were adopted. However, on the prediction of the spatial distribution estimation of groundwater inflow, both analytical and numerical methods failed to predict at the present state. Nevertheless, numerical simulations would prevail over analytical methods to predict the distribution if more details in the simulations were taken into consideration.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the accuracy of head scatter factor (Sc) by applying a developed multi-leaf collimator (MLC) scatter source model for an unflattened photon beam. Methods: Sets of Sc values were measured for various jaw-defined square and rectangular fields and MLC-defined square fields for developing dual-source model (DSM) and MLC scatter model. A 6 MV unflattened photon beam has been used. Measurements were performed using a 0.125 cm3 cylindrical ionization chamber and a mini phantom. Then, the parameters of both models have been optimized, and Sc has been calculated. The DSM and MLC scatter models have been verified by comparing the calculated values to the three Sc set measurement values of the jaw-defined field and the two Sc set measurement values of MLC-defined fields used in the existing modeling, respectively. Results: For jaw-defined fields, the calculated Sc using the DSM was consistent with the measured Sc value. This demonstrates that the DSM was properly optimized and modeled for the measured values. For the MLC-defined fields, the accuracy between the calculated and measured Sc values with the addition of the MLC scatter source appeared to be high, but the only use of the DSM resulted in a significantly bigger differences. Conclusions: Both the DSM and MLC models could also be applied to an unflattened beam. When considering scattered radiation from the MLC by adding an MLC scatter source model, it showed a higher degree of agreement with the actual measured Sc value than when using only DSM in the same way as in previous studies.

  • In this paper, we propose the dynamic modeling, path planning and tracking algorithms of 4-wheeled 2-d.o.f.(degree of freedom) mobile robot(WMR). The gaussian functions are applied to design the smooth path of WMR. To calculate the WMR position in real time, we use three components of inertial measurement units(IMU). These units have initial error because of the rotation rate of earth, gravity acceleration and so on. Therefore we derive the initial error model of IMU, and compare the fitness diagnosis about probability characteristics of real data adn estimated data. The performance of IMU with error model and Kalman filter is compared to that without filter and error model. The simulation results show that the proposed dynamic model, path planning and tracking algorithms are more useful than the conventional control algorithm.

  • In this paper, we describe the design and performance of a prototype multi-rotor unmaned aerial vehicle( UAV) platform featuring an inertial measurement unit(IMU) based autonomous-flying for use in bluetooth communication environments. Although there has been a fair amount of study of free-flying UAV with multi-rotors, the more recent trend has been to outfit hexarotor helicopter with gimbal to support various services. This paper introduces the hardware and software systems toward very compact and autonomous hexarotors, where they can perform search, rescue, and surveillance missions without external assistance systems like ground station computers, high-performance remote control devices or vision system. The proposed system comprises the construction of the test hexarotor platform, the implementation of an IMU, mathematical modeling and simulation in the helicopter. Furthermore, the hexarotor helicopter with implemented IMU is connected with a micro controller unit(MCU)(ARM-cortex) board. The micro-controller is able to command the rotational speed of the rotors and to get the measurements of the IMU as input signals. The control simulation and experiment on the real system are implemented in the test platform, evaluated and compared against each other.

  • One of the advantages of SP methods is the possibility of getting a number of responses from each respondent. However, when the repeated observations from each respondent are analysed by applying the simple modeling method, a potential problem is created because of upbiased significance due to the repeated observation from each respondent. This study uses a variety of approaches to explore this issue and to test the robustness of the simple model estimates. Among several different approaches, the Jackknife method and Kocurs method were applied. The Jackknife method was implemented using a program JACKKNIFE. The model estimate results of Jackknife method and Kocurs method were compared with those of the uncorrected estimates in order to test whether there was repeated measurement problem or not and the extent to which this problem affected the model estimates. The standard errors between the uncorrected model estimates and Jackknife estimates were also compared. The results reveals that the t-ratios of Kocurs are much lower than those of the uncorrected method and Jackknife estimates, indicating that Kocurs method underestimates the significance of the coefficients. Jackknife method produced the almost same coefficients as those of the uncorrected model but the lower t-ratios. These results indicate that the coefficients of the uncorrected method are accurate but that their significance are somewhat overestimated. In this study. 1 concluded that the repeated measurement Problem did exist in our data, but that it did not affect the model estimation results significantly. It is recommended that such a test should become a standard procedure. If it turns out that the analysis based on the simple uncorrected method are influenced by the repeated measurement problem. it should be corrected.

  • Downhole testing and seismic CPT (SCPT) have been widely used to evaluate stiffness profiles of the subgrade. Advantages of downhole testing and SCPT such as low cost, easy operation and a simple seismic source have got these testings more frequently adopted in site investigation. For the automated analysis of downhole testing and SCPT, the concept of interval measurements has been practiced. In this paper. a new inversion procedure to deal tilth the interval measurements for the automated downhole testing and SCPT (including a newlydeveloped continuous SCPT) is proposed. The forward modeling in the new inversion procedure incorporates ray path theory based on Snell's law. The formulation for the inversion analysis is derived from the maximum likelihood approach, which estimates the maximum likelihood of obtaining a particular travel time from a source to a receiver. Verification of the new inversion procedure was performed with numerical simulations of SCPT using synthesized profiles. The results of the inversion analyses performed for the synthetic data show that the new inversion analysis is a valid procedure which enhances Va profiles determined by downhole testing and SCPT.

  • This study utilizes structural equation modeling process to identify contributing factors that have been extracted through the first study of exploring library service and image building related factors. This study, specifically, tests the relationships between endogenous and exogenous variables that are assumed to have inherent relationships when building public library service image. As denoted from the first study, this one uses three dimensions and nine conceptual level constructs and 20 different measurement items for further test. The results of this study is that particular items to measure the image for the users would not have been fitted to the other set of samples. Also, there are differences between the two employee groups in the recognitions of images.

  • In this paper, a low-cost impedance spectroscopy system(LCISS) suitable for modeling the electrochemical power sources such as fuel cells, batteries and supercapacitors is designed and implemented. Since the developed LCISS is composed of simple sensor circuits, commercial data acquisition board and LabVIEW software, a graphic language with powerful HMI(Human-Machine Interface), it is expected ta be widely used in substitution of the expensive EIS instruments. In the proposed system, the digital lock-in amplifier is adopted to achieve the accurate measurements even in the presence of the high level of noises. The developed hardware and software is applied to measure the impedance spectrum of the Ballard Nexa 1.2kW proton exchange membrane fuel cell stack and an equivalent impedance model is proposed based on the measurement results. The validity of the proposed equivalent circuit and the developed system is proven by the measurement of the ac power losses of the PEM fuel celt stack by the ripple current.

  • Recently, development paradigm of information system is turning into object oriented and component based, and this methodology is leading the software industry. To acclimatize aptly to this trend, users demand the assessment of software expenses to change with the appropriate model of computing costs of the environment, and some people are actually studying the concept of Object Oriented Function Point and UCP method. Especially, Object Oriented Function Point Measurement Process has good points in overcoming the bound of LOC and the existing the Function Point Measurement Process because Object Oriented Function Point Measurement Process is applicable to the early stage of development project mainly with the used cases, and valid to the life long period as the each stage of software products develops, and always understandable to communicate with users by the UML mark rules. Accordingly, this research is to measure Functional Point at ROFP and AOFP in accordance with the development project of information system by the national defense CBD methodology procedures and UML Interrelation Analysis that are recently and widely used in the developmental environment of object oriented information system. Furthermore, this study suggests the measurement method to obtain Functional Point, and identifies service function and object/class function in the correlation analysis of use case and class based on the products and UML modeling via traditional FPA model and object oriented FPA model. Above all, this study is to demonstrate the improvement of traditional Function Point Measurement Process, IFPUG-CPM and software cost basis, and reveal Function Point Measurement Process, which is appropriate to the development of object oriented information system, and suggest the evaluation results of the compatibility through case studies.
