The method of measuring and classifying the energy category of neutrons directly using raw data acquired through a CZT detector is not satisfactory, in terms of accuracy and efficiency, because of its poor energy resolution and low measurement efficiency. Moreover, this method of measuring and analyzing the characteristics of low-energy or low-activity gamma-ray sources might be not accurate and efficient in the case of neutrons because of various factors, such as the noise of the CZT detector itself and the influence of environmental radiation. We have therefore developed an efficient method of analyzing radiation characteristics using a neutron and gamma-ray analysis algorithm for the rapid and clear identification of the type, energy, and radioactivity of gamma-ray sources as well as the detection and classification of the energy category (fast or thermal neutrons) of neutron sources, employing raw data acquired through a CZT detector. The neutron analysis algorithm is based on the fact that in the energy-spectrum channel of 558.6 keV emitted in the nuclear reaction 113Cd + 1n → 114Cd + in the CZT detector, there is a notable difference in detection information between a CZT detector without a PE modulator and a CZT detector with a PE modulator, but there is no significant difference between the two detectors in other energy-spectrum channels. In addition, the gamma-ray analysis algorithm uses the difference in the detection information of the CZT detector between the unique characteristic energy-spectrum channel of a gamma-ray source and other channels. This efficient method of analyzing radiation characteristics is expected to be useful for the rapid radiation detection and accurate information collection on radiation sources, which are required to minimize radiation damage and manage accidents in national disaster situations, such as large-scale radioactivity leak accidents at nuclear power plants or nuclear material handling facilities.

Purpose : We conducted a study to propose comparing subjective sleeping states data that was collected through scientifically measuring by using smartwatch and surveys for seafarers. In addition, we conducted a study to provide sleep though analysis of the environmental factors that influence the sleep efficiency of seafarers. Methods : For scientific measurement of seafarers' sleeping states, we measured the sleep hours and sleep efficiency for at least 3 days by using the healthcare function of smartwatches which are wearable devices. As for subjective sleeping states, we collected data on sleep hours and satisfaction rates on the quality of sleep through a survey. Lastly, as for the environmental factors that affect the sleep efficiency which is measured by smartwatches such as physical environment, bedroom space, bedroom furniture, bedding, a survey by self-evaluation method was conducted. Results : There were significant differences in the scientific sleep hours measurement values for all seafarers and the average sleep hours in the subjective survey. There were significant differences in the scientific sleep efficiency measurements of all the seafarers and the sleep satisfaction of the subjective survey, and there was no correlation between the scientific sleep efficiency and the subjective sleep satisfaction of all the seafarers. Among the environmental factors affecting the sleep efficiency of the seafarers, humidity variable had the most influence, and vibration and illuminance variables were also shown to have a very significant effect. Conclusion : We propose the measuring method that can analyze the quantitative and qualitative sleep states of the seafarers by using small activity recorders. In addition, it is very important to control humidity, vibration, and illuminance among ship environmental factors, and comfort, noise and bedroom size should also be reflected.

The height of the table should be considered important during computed tomography (CT) examination, but according to previous studies, not all radiology technologists set the table at the patient's center at the examination, which affects the exposure dose and image quality received by the patient. Therefore, this study intends to study the image quality exposure dose according to the height of the table to realize the optimal image quality and dose during the brain CT scan. The head phantom images were acquired using Philips Brilliance iCT 256. When the image was acquired, the table height was adjusted to 815, 865, 915, 965, 1015, and 1030 mm, respectively, and each scan was performed 3 times for each height. For the exposure dose measurement, optically stimulated luminescence dosimeter (OSLD) was attached to the front, side, eye, and thyroid gland of the head phantom. In the signal to noise ratio (SNR) measurement result, The SNR values for each table height were all lower than 915 mm. As a result of exposure dose, the exposure dose on each area increased as the table height decreased. The height of the table has a close relationship with the patient's radiation exposure dose in the CT scan.
In this paper, we address the target positioning performance of Multi-Static sonar with respect to target positioning method and measurement error. Based on the analysis on two candidate solution approaches, namely, Least Square (LS) using range and angular information simultaneously and Maximum Likelihood (ML) using only range information as the existing information fusion methods for possible application to Multi-Static sonar, we propose to employ ML using range and angular information. Assuming that each sensor can receive range and angular information, we conduct representative comparison experiments over the existing and proposed methods under various measurement noise scenarios. We also investigate the target positioning performance according to number of sensors, distance between transmitter and receiver. According to the experimental results, RMSE of the proposed ML with distance and direction information is found to be more superior to ML using distance alone and to LS in case distance between transmitter and receiver is longer and number of receiver is smaller.
To properly extract the strain components under varying operational conditions is very important in bridge health monitoring. The abnormal sensor readings can be correctly identified and the expected operational performance of the bridge can be better understood if each strain components can be accurately quantified. In this study, strain components under varying load conditions, i.e., temperature variation and live-load variation are evaluated based on field strain measurements collected from a real concrete box-girder bridge. Temperature-induced strain is mainly regarded as the trend variation along with the ambient temperature, thus a smoothing technique based on the wavelet packet decomposition method is proposed to estimate the temperature-induced strain. However, how to effectively extract the vehicle-induced strain is always troublesome because conventional threshold setting-based methods cease to function: if the threshold is set too large, the minor response will be ignored, and if too small, noise will be introduced. Therefore, an autoencoder framework is proposed to evaluate the vehicle-induced strain. After the elimination of temperature and vehicle-induced strain, the left of which, defined as the model error, is used to assess the operational performance of the bridge. As empirical techniques fail to detect the degraded state of the structure, a clustering technique based on Gaussian Mixture Model is employed to identify the damage occurrence and the validity is verified in a simulation study.

In order to prepare the fundamental data for the improvement of noisy working environments and the effective hearing conservation program on workers exposed to industrial noise, the authors surveyed the working processes and evaluated the noise levels on 56 manufacturing industries in Pusan area from April to July in 1985. The results were summarized as follows : 1. The noise level was the highest in shipbuilding and repairing(95.6 dBA), and followed by steel rolling(94.0 dBA), manufacture of motor vehicles(93.1 dBA), manufacture of fishing nets(92.9 dBA), manufacture of testiles(92.5 dBA), iron and steel foundries(89.3 dBA), manufacture of metal products(89.1 dBA), preserving and processing of marine foods(87.0 dBA), manufacture of rubber products(85.3 dBA), manufacture of plywood(84.9 dBA) and manufacture of paints(84.5 dBA). 2. Among fifty surveyed working processes, the noise level of twenty-one processes (42%) exceeded the threshold limit value for 8 hours per day. 3. As the allowable exposure times by governmental threshold limit values to industrial noise level(dBA), cocking of shipbuilding and repairing and plating(CGL) of steel rolling were the shortest(30 minutes), and followed by assembling(rivet) of manufacture of motor vehicles(1 hour) weaving of manufacture of textiles and shot, machine, pipe laying of shipbuilding and repairing(2 hours). 4. By the result of octave band analysis on noisy working processes in excess of 90 dBA, the sound level was the highest at 2,000 Hz or 4,000 Hz. 5. It was recognized that the measurement of overall sound pressure level was also effective as octave band analysis in evaluating the industrial noise.
We have constructed a car-borne magnetic exploration system, in which a car drags a non-magnetic cart on which a magnetometer is installed. In the total magnetic field measured as a vectorial sum in this system, are included the magnetic field generated by the car itself. This magnetic field, doing the role of a magnetic noise, should be eliminated. For this purpose, we have set up a measurement condition to get the same effect as if we have put the car in one point and thereafter measured the magnetic field around it. In this case, if there is any magnetically anomalous body in the area, we can consider all the remaining magnetic field to have been generated by the car itself, once the geomagnetic field eliminated. We tried to invert the magnetic field considered to have been generated by the car and succeeded to derive the magnetic moment and the direction of the induced and remanent magnetic field of the car respectively. Once the magnetic moment and the direction of the induced and remanent magnetic field have been calculated, the magnetic field generated by them in specific points can be directly and analytically calculated. This result can be used in the future to eliminate the magnetic field generated by the car itself doing the role of a magnetic noise during the procedure of reduction of the measured magnetic exploration data by the car-borne magnetic exploration system.

In this paper, we have proposed and experimentally performed a polarization and phase control method of an optical signal which has same wavelength with the optical carrier to improve phase characteristics of a continuous wave(CW) generated by the double sideband-suppressed carrier(DSB-SC) as one of the famous photomixing technique for making sub-millimeter and terahertz waves. A polarization and phase controlled optical signal has been coupled with the general DSB-SC on an optical coupler. The output of the optical coupler is then photomixed by a photomixer. From our analysis and measurement results, we have found that the amplitude of the generated sub-mm and terahertz CW signal is higher 1.5 dB and the phase noise is lower about 3 dB@10 kHz offset frequency than the general DSBSC. Consequently, since our proposed method has improved the amplitude and phase noise of CW signals in the sub-mm and terahertz bands, it can be helpful results to make low cost CW generator in sub-millimeter and subterahertz bands.

After 1960s, in accordance with getting bigger in changing range of annual rain precipitation, those dams were built in order to prevent any drought and flood through the regulation of flux. In case of such dam, when it reaches to some definite pondage, for its regulation of water volume, numerous volume of water in the reservoir should be discharged by opening the floodgate, at this time a severe damage can be occurred to those lives and properties of the residents and tourists at the river or riverside. Accordingly, despite the sounding alarm broadcasting for prevention and notice such damage could be clearly travelled to those people without influence by the discharging noise or other neighboring environmental factor, since it was only empirically installed without any peculiar research until now, the alarm broadcasting could not effectively travel, and the travelling distance also could not known correctly. On such point of view, this Study has ever grasped the characteristics by frequencies and its sound pressure level about the discharge noise and the alarm broadcasting of Daechung Dam, one of multipurpose dams through the measurement and analysis by distances, and based on this, also has ever presupposed the proper location of additional alarm broadcasting spot using a simulation program named Cadna-A.

Purpose: The development of compact tractors that can be used in dry fields, greenhouses, and orchards for pest control, weeding, transportation, and harvesting is necessary. The development and performance evaluation of power transmission units are very important when it comes to tractor development. This study evaluates the performance of a driving power transmission unit of a 50 kW multi-purpose narrow tractor. Methods: The performance of the transmission and forward-reverse clutch, which are the main components of the driving power transmission unit of multi-purpose narrow tractors, was evaluated herein. The transmission performance was evaluated in terms of power transmission efficiency, noise, and axle load, while the forward-reverse clutch performance was evaluated in terms of durability. The transmission's power transmission efficiency accounts for the measurement of transmission losses, which occur in the transmission's gear, bearing, and oil seal. The motor's power was input in the transmission's input shaft. The rotational speed and torque were measured in the final output shaft. The noise was measured at each speed level after installing a microphone on the left, right, and upper sides. The axle load test was performed through a continuous equilibrium load test, in which a constant load was continuously applied. The forward-reverse clutch performance was calculated using the engine torque to axle torque ratio with the assembled engine and transmission. Results: The loss of power in the transmission efficiency test of the driving power unit was 6.0-9.7 kW based on all gear steps. This loss of horsepower was equal to 11-18% of the input power (52 kW). The transmission efficiency of the driving power unit was 81.5-89.0%. The noise of the driving power unit was 50-57 dB at 800 rpm, 70-77 dB at 1600 rpm, and 76-83 dB at 2400 rpm. The axle load test verified that the input torque and axle revolutions were constant. The results of the forward-reverse clutch performance test revealed that hydraulic pressure and torque changes were stably maintained when moving forward or backward, and its operation met the hydraulic design standards. Conclusions: When comprehensively examined, these research results were similar to the main driving power transmission systems from USA and Japan in terms of performance. Based on these results, tractor prototypes are expected to be created and supplied to farmhouses after going through sufficient in-situ adaptability tests.
