  • The unsteady flow in three-dimensional cubic cavity with narrow channel at upper region is investigated experimentally for three kinds of Reynolds number, 1*10/sup 4/, 3*10/sup 4/ and 5*10/sup 4/ based on the cavity width and cavity inlet mean flow velocity. Instant velocity vectors are obtained simultaneously at whole field by PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry). Wall pressure distributions are estimated using Poisson equation from the velocity data. Results of PIV reveal that severe unsteady flow fluctuation within the cavity are remarkable at all Reynolds numbers and sheared mixing layer phenomena are also found at the region where inlet driving flow is collided with the clock-wise rotating main primary vortex. Instant velocity profiles reveal that deformed forced vortex formation is observed throughout the entire region and spanwise kinetic energy migration is conspicuous.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse and compare the fuel combustion characteristics between LPG and gasoline on SI engine. Pressures of combustion chamber were measured on the state that engine speed was 2000rpm and BMEP was 2.0bar And we measured pressures of combustion chamber regarding variation of the MBT We could know that the combustion pressure of LPG fuel use engine is appeared lower than that of gasoline fuel use engine. At the lean mixture ratio area we could blow that Ignition timings are pulled very forward, and ignition timing of LPG fuel is advanced to $5\sim12^{\circ}$ CA than gasoline fuel. We learned that the value of coefficient of variation of LPG fuel is higher than gasoline fuel.

  • The aspect ratio is the main parameter which governs the outer flow pattern and nozzle performance. And in this study, some flow characteristics with the variation of nozzle aspect ratios such as mean pressure distributions along the center line of the outer flow, flow coefficients and the diffusion angles have been experimentally investigated. Through the experimental analysis, the higher aspect ratio was known to decrease the jet kinetic energy because of the friction losses at the outer of nozzle. As the result, it is found that the nozzle performance depends mainly on the aspect ratio of nozzle.

  • Effects of wake-passing orientation and frequency on the wake-induced boundary layer transition on a NACA0012 airfoil are investigated. The wakes are generated by rotating cylinders clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW) around the airfoil. Time- and phase-averaged streamwise mean velocities and turbulent fluctuations are measured with a single hot-wire probe. Wall skin frictions are estimated by the Computational Preston Tube Method (CPM). The pressure distribution on the airfoil is different according to the wake-passing orientation and frequency. Turbulent patches are generated in the laminar boundary layer due to the passing wake and the boundary layer becomes temporarily transitional. The transition process is significantly affected by the pressure gradient and the turbulent patches. For the receding wake, the turbulent patches propagate more rapidly than those for the approaching wake because adverse pressure gradient becomes larger. As the frequency increases, onset location of transition moles upstream and the boundary layer near the trailing edge becomes more transitional.

  • In this paper, the electron transport characteristics in $SiH_4$ has been analysed over the E/N range $0.5{\sim}300[Td]$ and Pressure value 0.5, 1, 2.5 [Torr] by a two-term approximation Boltzmann equation method and by a Monte Carlo simulation. The motion has been calculated to give swarm parameters for the electron drift velocity. diffusion coefficient, electron ionization, mean energy and the electron energy distribution function. The electron energy distribution function has been analysed in $SiH_4$ at E/N=30, 50[Td] for a case of the equilibrium region in the mean electron energy and respective set of electron collision cross sections. The results of Boltzmann equation and Monte carlo simulation have been compared with experimental data by Pollock, Ohmori, cottrell and Walker.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to develop a predicting model for the optimal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patient with obesity by using a machine learning. Methods: We retrospectively investigated the medical records of 162 OSA patients who had obesity [body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25] and undertaken successful CPAP titration study. We divided the data to a training set (90%) and a test set (10%), randomly. We made a random forest model and a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (lasso) regression model to predict the optimal pressure by using the training set, and then applied our models and previous reported equations to the test set. To compare the fitness of each models, we used a correlation coefficient (CC) and a mean absolute error (MAE). Results: The random forest model showed the best performance {CC 0.78 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.43-0.93], MAE 1.20}. The lasso regression model also showed the improved result [CC 0.78 (95% CI 0.42-0.93), MAE 1.26] compared to the Hoffstein equation [CC 0.68 (95% CI 0.23-0.89), MAE 1.34] and the Choi's equation [CC 0.72 (95% CI 0.30-0.90), MAE 1.40]. Conclusions: Our random forest model and lasso model ($26.213+0.084{\times}BMI+0.004{\times}$apnea-hypopnea index+$0.004{\times}oxygen$ desaturation index-$0.215{\times}mean$ oxygen saturation) showed the improved performance compared to the previous reported equations. The further study for other subgroup or phenotype of OSA is required.

  • This study was done to determine the effect of music therapy on stress and quality of life in patients undergoing hemodialysis. The research design was a nonequivalent control group pre -post test design. The subjects consisted of 21 patients who received hemodialysis in two hospitals located in Kwang Ju. The fourteen receiving treatment in one hospital were assigned to the experimental group and the seven in the other hospital to the control group. Data were gathered from December 14, 1992 to January 16, 1993 through questionnaires and physiological measurement. Data were analyzed by the SAS package using frequency, t-test, paired t-test and Pearson Prod uct - Moment Correlation Coefficient. The results of this study are summarized as follows ; 1. There were no significant differences between the two groups on stress scores and quality of life scores before the treatment. 2. The mean score on the psychological stress scale for the patients undergoing hemodialysis was 2.48 out of a maximum mean score of four, the items with high stress scores were “feeling of weakness and annoyed by everything”, “limitation of food”, “limitation of fluid”, “change in skin color” in that order. The psychological category showed the highest stress score followed by developmental, scoioeconomic and physiological stress categories in that order. 3. In the experimental group, post - test diastolic blood pressure decerased significantly(t=3.24, p=0.0064), but in the control group pre and post - test diastolic blood pressure were not different. 4. There was no difference between the two groups on the pre and post -test psychological stress scores or the depression scores. 5. The mean score of quality of life for patients undergoing hemodialysis was 2.75 out of a maxi-mum mean score of five. The category of ‘emtional state’ showed the highest score followed by ‘self - esteem’, ‘physical state and function’, ‘economic life’, ‘relationship with neighbors’ and ‘family relationship’ categories in that order. There was no significant difference in the pre and post - test quality of life scores between the two groups. 6. Hypothesis 1 that patients undergoing hemodialysis who received music therapy would have less stress than patients undergoing hemodialysis who did not receive music therapy is divided into two sub - hypotheses. 1) The first sub-hypothesis that patients undergoing hemodialysis who received music therapy would have less physiological stress than patients undergoing hemodialysis who did not receive music therapy was partly supported. Among three physiological stress indices (pulse, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure), only diastolic blood pressure decreased significantly after the treatment in the experimental group. 2) The second sub-hypothesis that patients undergoing hemodialysis who received music therapy would have less psychological stress than patients undergoing hemodialysis who did not receive music therapy was not supported. Psychological stress score and depression score were not significantly different before and after the treatment. 7. Hypothesis 2 that patients undergoing hemodialysis who received music therapy would have a higher quality of life score than patients undergoing. hemodialysis who did not received music therapy was not supported. There were no significant changes in the quality of life scores before and after the treatment.

  • In this study, we measured the blood flow on arm by non-invasive method and implemented a system to measure variation of the blood flow by estimating bio-electrical impedance and arterial pressure according to cuff pressure. The implemented system measured impedance variation according to pressure variation applied by artificial cuff pressure on the measuring position. The system consisted of pressure measuring part and impedance measuring part using 4-electrode method. Pressure measuring part was composed of semiconductor pressure sensor and electronic circuit for signal processing of sensor output signal. In addition, impedance measuring part was composed of constant current source circuit and lock-in amplifier for detecting impedance signal. We conducted experiments of impedance measuring part using standard resistance for performance evaluation of the implemented system. In addition we experimented to estimate variation of the blood flow by measuring impedances of the experimental group. We estimated ratio of the blood flow resistance using mean arterial pressure and variation of the blood flow. As a result the ratio of the blood flow resistance and variation of blood flow were in an inverse relationship with each other and the correlation coefficient was -0.96776.
