  • To determine the effect of posture change on autonomic activity and to investigate valid parameters to reflex the autonomic activity from time-series pupil size data, a posture-related experiment was performed with 15 subjects, which involved measuring their electrocardiograms and pupil sizes. The experimental procedure consisted of three-sequence postures-supine, sitting and upright-for 5 minutes each, with rest sessions between postures. The subjects were notified of the entire experimental procedure. The parameters of the subjects' heart rate variability showed significant differences between the postures (heart rate: 63-70-80 beat, normalized low frequency power: 28-50-75, normalized high frequency power: 72-49-25 and ratio: 0.5-1.2-4.4 in supine-sitting-upright position respectively) as did the parameters of their mean pupil sizes (41300-53900-53700 pixels respectively) and the major frequencies (the third trend: 0.23-0.2-0.18 Hz respectively) of their pupil size variability according to changes in their autonomic activities induced by posture change. The experiment thus proved that posture change affects autonomic activity and that such activity can be estimated by the parameters of pupil size as similar as heart rate variability.

  • In this paper, the ventilation efficiencies of an underground sewage disposal plant were investigated for ventilating system without fan, ventilating system with eleven cross flow fans and ventilating system with sixteen cross flow fans by numerical method. It has been found that the air change effectiveness of the system without fan was predicted 0.44. It means that an additional ventilating equipment is needed to maintain good indoor air quality. For the ventilating system with sixteen cross flow fans, the air change effectiveness was predicted 0.55. The air change effectiveness of the ventilating system with eleven cross flow fans was predicted 0.51. It is known that the air change effectiveness above 0.5 is enough to eliminate pollutant and bad smell in the indoor. Therefore, it is recommended to select the ventilating system with eleven cross flow fans for the underground sewage disposal plant in an economic point of view.

  • Performance of a video browser greatly depends on the performance of scene change detection for the efficient retrieval and storage of the video contents which are major data in a current contents management system. In this paper we propose a new scene change detection method using Mean Difference Histogram of each frame section which improves accuracy of scene change detection as well as reduces the frequency of miss detection and fault detection of gradual scene change which is one of critical problem of the conventional histogram-based techniques.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigated on the degree of interest of manners education before and attitude and behavior change satisfaction of post-manners education for Women's University Students. The data for this study were collected from 518 subjects, who were Sookmyng Women's University Students in November, 1996. The subjects were analyzed by Cronbach's α, Frequency, Percentage, Mean, Anova, Factor analysis, Multiple Regression, and Path Analysis. The results were as follows; 1) The general tendency of students' degree of interest of manners education before for Women's University Students was high. 2) Attitude and behavioral change satisfaction of post-manners education was some high. Among the variables, individual life manners, family relations manners, job manner, and wedding ceremony were some high then the other manners areas. 3) The variables of the positive influences for students attitude and behavioral change satisfaction of post-manners education were degree of interest of manners education before, mother's age, grade, major, university life-satisfaction, and mother's job, negative influence variables was family life-satisfaction. 4) The intermediated variable of attitude and behavioral change satisfaction of post-manners education was degree of interest of manners education before and university life-satisfaction. We hope this study to be used as basic data for developing manners education model in university. We also expect further studies on university manners education with precise scale and sampling.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to find perceived health status, ADL, depression, and life satisfaction among the rural elderly and to explore differences according to gender and the stage of exercise change. Methods: This is an exploratory survey study. The subjects were 365 elders consisting of 140 men (38.4%) and 225 women (61.6%) in a rural area in Korea. Data were collected from December, 2006 to January, 2007 using a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation, t-test, ANOVA, and Scheffe's test using the SPSS/WIN 10.0. Results: The mean scores of perceived health status and ADL were lower and depression was higher in women than in men. There were statistically significant differences in perceived health status according to the stage of exercise change. Also there were significant differences in the scores of ADL, depression, and life satisfaction according to the stage of exercise change. Conclusion: The tailored exercise seems to decrease depression while promoting physical health status and life satisfaction among the rural elderly. We suggest considering the client's intention and motivation when developing exercise programs.

  • Using data from flies collected with pitfall traps in 365 forests on a nationwide scale in Korea, the abundance and distribution changes of two families (Phoridae and Lauxaniidae) in Korean forests were predicted at the genus level according to two climate change scenarios: RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5. The most suitable temperature for the 17 major genera was estimated using a weighted average regression model. Stichillus and Anevrina displayed the lowest optimum temperature with 7.6℃ and 8.5℃ in annual mean temperature, respectively, whereas Chonocephalus had the highest optimum temperature with 12.1℃. Among thirty genera, seven genera (four from Phoridae and three from Lauxaniidae), which showed their abundance in a bell-type or linear pattern along the temperature gradient, were used for predicting the distribution changes according to the future climate change scenarios. All the taxa of this study are expected to decrease in abundance and distribution as a function of temperature increase. Moreover, cold-adapted taxa were found to be more affected than warm-adapted taxa.

  • This paper proposes the so-called MOSUM-based sparse projection method for change points detection in high-dimensional time series. Our method is inspired by Wang and Samworth (2018), however, our method improves their method in two ways. One is to find change points all at once, so it minimizes sequential error. The other is localized so that more robust to the mean changes offsetting each other. We also propose data-driven threshold selection using block wild bootstrap. A comprehensive simulation study shows that our method performs reasonably well in finite samples. We also illustrate our method to stock prices consisting of S&P 500 index, and found four change points in recent 6 years.

  • In general, the curved structures have the engineering efficiency as well as a fine view compared with straight member. Also, composite materials are composed of two or more different materials to produce desirable properties for structural strength as compared to single ones. Shell structures with composite materials have many advantages in strength and weight reduction. Therefore, composite laminated conical shells are analyzed in this study. To solve differential equations of conical shells, this paper used finite difference method. Various parametric study according to the change of radius ratio, vertex angle and subtended angle are examined. The change of radius ratio, vertex angle and subtended angle mean the change from conical shells to cylindrical shells, conical shells to circular plates and open shells closed shells, respectively.

  • This study employs a structural time series method in order to model and estimate stochastic trend of surface temperatures of the globe, Northern Hemisphere, and Northeast Asia ($20^{\circ}N{\sim}60^{\circ}N$, $100^{\circ}E{\sim}150^{\circ}E$). For this study the reanalysis data CRUTEM3 (CRU/Hadley Centre gridded land-surface air temperature Version 3) is used. The results show that in these three regions range from $0.268^{\circ}C$ to $0.336^{\circ}C$ in 1997, whereas these vary from $0.423^{\circ}C$ to $0.583^{\circ}C$ in 2007. The annual mean temperature over Northeast Asia has increased by $0.031^{\circ}C$ in 2007 compared to 1997. The climate change in surface temperatures over Northeast Asia is slightly higher than that over the Northern Hemisphere.

  • To transmit the image data at low rate, motion compensated(MC) hybrid coding scheme is used generally. In this scheme since coder performance could be decreased when scene change happens, another prediction method must be employed. In this paper we present two prediction methods. One is using the mean of neighboring block which was already transmitted. The others is estimating the current block with the neighboring blocks. When the proposed methods are applied to the conventional Me hybrid coding scheme, it is found that SNR gain of 7 dB is achieved and bit rate can be also reduced above 30%.
