  • Thermal shock behavior of alumina ceramics were studied by quenching the heated alumina specimen into the water of various temperatures over 0~10$0^{\circ}C$. The critical thermal shock temperature difference ( Tc) of the specimen decreased almost linearly from 275$^{\circ}C$ to 20$0^{\circ}C$ with increase in the cooling water temperature over 0~6$0^{\circ}C$. It is probably due to the increase of the maximum cooling rate which is dependent of the convection heat transfer coefficient. The convection heat transfer coefficient is a function of the temperature of the cooling water. However, the critical thermal shock temperature difference( Tc) of the specimen increased at 25$0^{\circ}C$ over 80~10$0^{\circ}C$ due to the film boiling of the cooling water. The maximum cooling rate, which brings about the maximum thermal stress of the specimen in the cooling process, was observed to increase linearly with the increase in the quenching temperature difference of the specimen due to the linear relationship of the convection heat transfer coefficient with the water temperature over 0~6$0^{\circ}C$. The critical maximum cooling rate for thermal shock fracture was observed almost constant to be about 260$\pm$1$0^{\circ}C$/s for all water temperatures over 0~6$0^{\circ}C$. Therefore, thermal shock behavior of alumina ceramics is greatly influenced by the convection heat transfer coefficient of the cooling water.

  • The power transfer capability is determined by the thermal, dynamic stability and voltage limits of the generation and transmission systems. The voltage stability depends on the reactive power limit and it affects the power transfer capability to a great extent. Then, in most load flow analysis, the reactive power limit is assumed as fixed, relatively different from the actual case. This paper proposes a method for determining the power transfer capability from a static voltage stability point of view using the IPLAN which is a high level language used with PSS/E program. The f-V curve for determining the power transfer capability is determined using Repeated Power Flow method. It Is assumed that the loads are constant and the generation powers change according to the merit order. The maximum reactive power limits are considered as varying similarly with the actual case and the effects of the varied maximum reactive power limits to the maximum power transfer capability are analyzed using a 5-bus power system and a 19-bus practical power system.

  • A new analytical model is proposed to better understand the transfer bond performance in a prestressed pretensioned concrete beam. The transfer length is divided into an elastic and a plas tic zones in this model. The bond stress is assumed t.o increase proportionally with the slip t.o the lirnit of maximum bond stress within the elastic zone and remains at a constant maximum value wthin the plastic zone. Four main stress patterns: bond stress, slip, steel stress, and concrete stress distributions within the transfer length are obtained precisely. The total transfer length al\ulcornerd free-end slip obtained here give a close comparison to the test results by Cousins et al.

  • A new ink transfer model based on the physical mechanism for the maximum ink transfer rate is proposed, and examined by the experimental data of P.J Mangin et, al. for the relations of the maximum ink transfer rates to the printing pressure, the speed and the roughness of paper substrates. The free ink split coefficient and immobilized ink under the maximum ink transfer rate are calculated by the new model and the experimental data. It is concluded that the new model is very useful, and the free ink split coefficient and the immobilized ink are inversely propotional and propotional to the paper roughness respectively and both are saturated eventually under the critical values.

  • This study was intended to determine the maneuverability of the vessel CHARMBADA. When the rudder angle was at $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, the maximum advance by slow, half and full ahead were varied in the range of 523.6-131.3m, 528.8-177.2m and 530.6-219.7m, respectively. The maximum transfer was 799.9-181.3m, 792.1-232.8m and 807.7-316.9m, respectively. The turning circle ability was better during starboard turning. When the rudder angle was $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, variation in the maximum advances was 392.0m, 245.0m and 153.0m. The maximum transfer was 528.0m, 339.0m and 218.0m, respectively based on the regression equations. As the rudder angle became bigger, the maximum advance or maximum transfer became smaller by the exponential function. The advance inertia took 127sec, 145sec, 181sec each until the vessel speed was 7.0konts, 12.0konts, 17.0konts. The static inertia took 245sec, 269sec, 300sec each until the vessel speed was under 2.0konts and the advance distance was 114.4m, 181.2m, 197.0m each. Accordingly, the static inertia was inclined to increase to scale according to the increase in vessel speed. For the CHARMBADA, the smaller the rudder angle was, the much bigger the turning circle became due to adhesion to the skeg, thereby lowering the vessel's turning ability.

  • This paper presents a new method for analyzing the maximum efficiency of a wireless power transfer (WPT) system with multiple n resonators. The method is based on ABCD matrices and allows transformation of the WPT system with multiple n resonators into a single two-port network system. The general maximum efficiency equation of a WPT system with multiple n resonators is derived using the ABCD matrix. Use of this equation allows placement of the relay resonators for maximum efficiency even though they are asymmetrical. The general maximum efficiency equation and the method of the optimum placement are verified by a full wave simulation. The results show that the method is useful for the analysis of a WPT system with relay resonators.

  • Condensation heat transfer experiments for R-22 and R-407C refrigerants mixed with mineral oil and POE oil respectively were performed in straight and U-bend sections of a microfin tube. Experimental parameters were an oil concentration from 0 to 5%, a mass flux from 100 to $400 kg/m^2s$ and an inlet quality from 0.5 to 0.9. The enhancement factors for R-22 and R-407C refrigerants at the first straight section decreased continuously as the oil concentration increased. They decreased rapidly as the mass flux decreased and inlet quality increased. The heat transfer coefficients in the U-bend were the maximum at the $90^{\circ}$ position. The heat transfer coefficients at the second straight section within the dimensionless length of 48 were larger by a maximum of 33% than the average heat transfer coefficients at the first straight section.

  • The propose of this study is augmentation of heat transfer without additional external power in 2-dimensional impinging air jet. The passive heat transfer augmentation method tried in this experimental study is placement of rod bundles with the clearance, 2mm, in front of the heat transfer surface. The effects of pitch distance among rods and nozzle-to-target plate distance are investigated. The overall heat transfer rate of flat plate with rods reaches maximum at H/B=10 and P=40mm, and for H/B=2 and P=40mm the augmentation rate of heat transfer becomes maximum to a value which is about 1.57 times that of the flat plate without rods.

  • This paper introduces two on-going projects for DC high temperature superconducting (HTS) cable systems in South Korea. This study proposes the application of DC HTS cable systems to enhance power transfer limits of a grid-connected offshore wind farm. In order to develop the superconducting DC transmission system model based on HTS power cables, the maximum transfer limits from offshore wind farm are estimated and the system marginal price (SMP) calculated through a Two-Step Power Transfer (TSPT) model based on PV analysis and DC-optimal power flow. The proposed TSPT model will be applied to 2022 KEPCO systems with offshore wind farms.

  • A boiling heat transfer is used in various industry such as power generation systems, heat exchangers, air-conditioning and refrigerations. In the boiling heat transfer system, the critical heat flux (CHF) is the important factor, and it indicated safety of the system. It has kept up studies on the CHF enhancement. Recently, it is reported the CHF enhancement, when working fluid used the nanofluid with high thermal properties. But it could be occurred nanoflouling phenomenon from nanoparticle deposition, when nanofluid applied the heat transfer system. And, it is reported that the safety and thermal efficiency of heat transfer system could decrease. Therefore, it is compared and analyzed to the CHF and the boiling heat transfer coefficient on effect of artificial nanofouling (coating) in oxidized multi-wall carbon nanotube nanofluids. As the result, the CHF of oxidized multi-wall carbon nanofluids and the CHF of artificial nanofouling in the nanofluids increased to maximum 99.2%, 120.88%, respectively. A boiling heat transfer coefficient in nanofluid increased to maximum 24.29% higher than purewater, but artificial nanofouling decreased to maximum -7.96%.
