Design and Implementation of Modified Current Source Based Hybrid DC - DC Converters for Electric Vehicle Applications

  • In this study, we present the modern hybrid system based power generation for electric vehicle applications. We describe the hybrid structure of modified current source based DC - DC converters used to extract the maximum power from Photovoltaic (PV) and Fuel Cell system. Due to reduced dc-link capacitor requirement and higher reliability, the current source inverters (CSI) better compared to the voltage source based inverter. The novel control strategy includes Distributed Maximum Power Point Tracking (DMPPT) for photovoltaic (PV) and fuel cell power generation system. The proposed DC - DC converters have been analyzed in both buck and boost mode of operation under duty cycle 0.5>d, 0.5<d<1 and 0.5<d for capable electric vehicle applications. The proposed topology benefits include one common DC-AC inverter that interposes the generated power to supply the charge for the sharing of load in a system of hybrid supply with photovoltaic panels and fuel cell PEM. An improved control of Direct Torque and Flux Control (DTFC) based induction motor fed by current source converters for electric vehicle.In order to achieve better performance in terms of speed, power and miles per gallon for the expert, to accepting high regenerative braking current as well as persistent high dynamics driving performance is required. A simulation model for the hybrid power generation system based electric vehicle has been developed by using MATLAB/Simulink. The Direct Torque and Flux Control (DTFC) is planned using Xilinx ISE software tool in addition to a Modelsim 6.3 software tool that is used for simulation purposes. The FPGA based pulse generation is used to control the induction motor for electric vehicle applications. FPGA has been implemented, in order to verify the minimal error between the simulation results of MATLAB/Simulink and experimental results.

Optimal Redundant Actuation of Parallel Manipulators with High Operational Stiffness (고강성 병렬형 로봇의 최적 여유 구동)

  • This paper presents the optimal redundant actuation of parallel manipulators for complicated robotic applications such as cutting grinding drilling and digging that require a high degree of operational stiffness as well as the balance between force applicability and dexterity. First by taking into account the distribution(number and location) of active joints the statics and the operational stiffness of a redundant parallel manipulator are formulated and the effects of actuation redundancy are analyzed, Second for given task requirements including joint torque limit task force maximum allowable disturbance and maximum allowable deflection the task execution conditions of a redundant parallel manipulator are derived and the efficient testing formulas are provided. Third to achieve high operational stiffness while maintaining moderate dexterity the redundant actuation of a parallel manipulator is optimized which determines the optimal distribution of active joints and the optimal internal joint torque, Finally the simulation results for the optimal redundant actuation of a planar parallel manipulator are given.

  • This paper proposes maximum torque control of IPMSM drive using Adaptive Fuzzy-Neuro controller and artificial neural network(ANN). The hybrid combination of neural network and fuzzy control will produce a powerful representation flexibility and numerical processing capability. This paper proposes the analysis results to verify the effectiveness of the Adaptive Fuzzy-Neuro and ANN controller.

  • In this paper, a new approach for the Synchronous Reluctance Motor control which ensures producing Maximum Torque per Ampere(MTPA) over the entire field weakening region is presented. In addition, This paper presents a speed sensorless control scheme of SynRM using artificial neural network. Also, by adjusting the base speed for the field weakening operation according to the flux level, the current and voltage limit, the smooth and precise transition into the field weakening operation can be achieved The proposed scheme is verified validity through simulation.

  • This paper describes a development of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) and driver for electric vehicle (EV) which is driven by 2 motors without differential gear. A inverter is designed to drive 2 motors with 6 legs IGBT switches in a control board. Also vector control algorithm is implemented with maximum torque control method in the constant torque region and field weakening control method considering inverter capacity in the constant power region. Prototype IPMSM and inverter have been developed. To verify dynamic characteristics of the those about torque to speed and efficiency etc. We are making an experiment on that. Though that is not completed, we will show results to be acquired.

  • This paper describes current controlled PWM technique of PM synchronous motors for a wide variety of speed control applications. They are however limited in their ability to operate in the power limited regime where the available torque is reduced as the speed is increased above its base value. This paper reviews the operation of the PMSM drives when they are constrained to be within the permissible envelope of maximum inverter voltage and current to produce the rated power and to provide this with the highest attainable rotor speed. The optimal field-weakening control algorithm is the use of phase current and d-axis current feedback to reduce of error between the d-axis current command and real current and to improve the torque characteristics. The improved torque characteristics of speed control strategy with optimal field weakening control algorithm is analyzed and the performance is investigated by the computer simulation and experimental results.   • The basic concepts, which are related to the PSS tuning conditions and performance conditions for the safe of determination of PSS gain and compensation of phasor lagging, are thoroughly investigated in this first part. The performance conditions, where the power system has the lowest inherent damping torque and PSS should provide maximum damping torque, are examined by analysing synchronizing torque and damping torque supplied by the voltage control loop at the oscillation frequency. PSS tuning conditions are also investigated by observing the phasor lagging and the gain, resulted from power system-generator-excitation system depending on operating conditions, such as generator active power, reactive power, transmission impedance and AVR gain. The basic concepts developed in this PartImake it possible to lay foundation for the discussion of PSS tuning in Part II.

  • This paper deals with the ripple reduction of the electromagnetic torque developed in IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor). Generally, torque ripple is an important causes of vibration and noise of motor. For reducing torque ripple in IPM with nonsinusoidal EMF, the optimal current which is able to control maximum torque/ampere is considered to be introduced In the proposed method. The fact of torque ripple being reduced when the optimal current Is used in motor is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • In this paper the electromagnetic torque developed in IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) is analyzed. If flux distributions in the motor are not sinusoidal, a sinusoidal current produces important torque ripple. Torque ripple causes vibration and noise of motors. The optimized current waveforms for ripple free is able to be obtained by analysis of Back-EMF and torque equation. The method to find the optimal current is based on numerical predetermination. In this paper proposes current waveform which can eliminate the torque ripple, and the validity is verified through the simulation.

Frontal Plane Motion with Pelvis and Waist Joint Rotations in Bipedal Walking

  • Although the progress in bipedal walking is impressive in recent years, biped robots still require very high torque and can walk only for a short time interval with their internal batteries. Therefore, further research needs to be carried out to enhance walking efficiency of these robots. In order to achieve this goal, we attempt to imitate human walking with pelvis and waist joint rotations in the frontal plane. In order to investigate the effect of the pelvis and waist joint rotations in the frontal plane motion, we study the frontal plane model with a triangular structure made up of a waist joint and two hip joints. Through simulation, we show that the pelvis rotation can reduce the maximum torque and the control effort, and the waist joint rotation can reduce the trunk sway caused by the pelvis rotation. The combination of these two rotations makes the bipedal walking in the frontal plane more efficient.
