In order to improve atomization of droplet of sprayers, gun-type nozzle equipped with swirl screw which could increase tangential velocity had been used in this study. The results obtained were as follow: The larger diameter of atomized droplet was, the longer it reached. Tile atomizing phenomenon while using swirl screw in the nozzle was more efficient. There was little difference of travelling distance in the both nozzles when the small diameter of disk hole was used, but thetravlling distance of the nozzle with swirl screw was evidently getting shorter with the increase of the hole diameter compared to that of the nozzle without swirl sorew. The size of sprayed particles was getting smaller owing to the phenomenon of air movement the one to two meters travelling distance of droplet from maximum travelling point.

Fatigue crack initiation and propagation behavior under cyclic biaxial loading has been investigated using thin-walled tubular specimen with a hole. Two types of biaxial loading system, i.e. cyclic tensile loading with super-imposed static torsional load and cyclic torsional loading with superimposed static tensile load, with various values of the biaxial loading ratio, $\tau$ s/ $\sigma$ max (or $\tau$ max/ $\sigma$s) were employed. Fatigue tests show that fatigue crack near the hole initiates and propagates at 900 and 450 direction to the longitudinal direction of the specimen under cyclic tensile and torsion loading with static biaxial stress, respectively, and the static biaxial stress doesn't have any great influence on fatigue crack initiation and growth direction. Stress analysis near the hole of the specimen shows that the crack around the hole initiates along the plane of maximum tangential stress range. Fatigue crack growth rates were evaluated as functions of equivalent stress intensity factor range, strain energy density factor range and crack tip opening displacement vector, respectively. It is shown that the biaxial mode fatigue crack growth rates can be relatively consistently predicted with these cyclic parameters.

Squeezing is a phenomenon that may occur in deep tunneling and could bring about a large plastic deformation, tunnel closure and collapse of tunnel supports. Therefore, quantitative estimations of deformation and stress from squeezing and its possibility are necessary for establishment of a rational tunneling method. This study carried out three dimensional numerical analyses using a strain softening model in order to simulate the behaviour of squeezing and to estimate deformation and yield area around tunnels quantitatively. Numerical analyses were performed for 42 cases of various stress and strength conditions. As a result, the maximum tangential stress and strength of rock mass ratio could estimate plastic deformation and yield depth around tunnels and equations of relations between them were proposed.

A linear ultrasonic motor was designed by a combination of the first longitudinal and fourth bending mode, and the motor consisted of a straight aluminum alloys bar bonded with a piezoelectric ceramic element as a driving element. That is,$L_1-B_4$ linear ultrasonic motor can be constructed by a multi-mode vibrator of longitudinal and bending modes. Linear ultrasonic motors are based on an elliptical motion on the surface elastic body, such as bar or plates. In general, the natural resonance frequency of the stator is used as a driving frequency of the motor which provides a large elliptical motion. The corresponding eigenmode of one resonance frequency can be excited twice at the same time with a Phase shift of 90 degrees in space and time. And the rotation can be reversed by changing the phase between the two signals from sin$\omega$t to cos$\omega$t. Moreover, the tangential force pushes the slider(rotor) and, therefore, determines the thrust and speed of the motor. The experimental results of fabrication motors, bimorph-tyPe motor showed more excellent than unimorph-type. The maximum speed of TBL-200, TBL-300, TBL-400, TBL -220, TBL-310 and TBL-420 motors were 0.12, 0.37, 0.39, 0.14, 0.55 and $0.60ms6{-1}$, respectively. And the efficiency were reported 1.15, 7.9, 6.6, 2.36, 10.1 and 16.5%, respectively. That time, output thrust of the motor was a strong(1~2N) and the weight of stator was a lightness(5~7g).

The problem of electromagnetic coupling through a narrow slit in a parallel-plate waveguide(PPW) covered by a dielectric slab with a conducting strip on the slab is considered for the case that the TEM wave is incident in the PPW. Coupled integral equations for the tangential electric field in the slit and the induced current over the strip are derived and solved numerically by use of the method of moments. In order to show the effect of the conducting strip on the coupling, some numerical results for the reflected and transmitted powers in the guide, the coupled power through the slit, the equivalent slit admittance, and radiation pattern are presented. From the results, it is observed that the maximum available power coupled through the slit exterior to the PPW amounts upto 50% of the incident power in the PPW.
Reinforced concrete structures are widely used in civil engineering projects around the world in different designs. Due to the great evolution in computational equipment and numerical methods, structural analysis has become more and more reliable, and in turn more closely approximates reality. Thus among the many numerical methods used to carry out these types of analyses, the finite element method has been highlighted as an optimized tool option, combined with the non-linear and linear analysis techniques of structures. In this paper, the behavior of reinforced concrete beams was analyzed in two different configurations: i) with welding and ii) conventionally lashed stirrups using annealed wire. The structures were subjected to normal and tangential forces up to the limit of their bending resistance capacities to observe the cracking process and growth of the concrete structure. This study was undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of welded wire fabric as shear reinforcement in concrete prismatic beams under static loading conditions. Experimental analysis was carried out in order compare the maximum load of both configurations, the experimental load-time profile applied in the first configuration was used to reproduce the same loading conditions in the numerical simulations. Thus, comparisons between the numerical and experimental results of the welded frame beam show that the proposed model can estimate the concrete strength and failure behavior accurately.
Modulus measurements in vertical boreholes under simulated horizontal in-situ stress conditions were performed on laboratory rock specimens. The experimental program was focused on the examination of modulus change with the variation of the orientation, magnitude and ratios of horizontal biaxial stresses. The experiment results show that the modulus increases when the magnitude of the horizontal stresses increases. The modulus measured in the minimum principal direction increased when the ratio between the horizontal principal stresses increased, while the modulus measured in the maximum principal direction decreased when the ratio of the horizontal principal stresses increased. These were caused by the tangential stresses that vary depending upon the magnitude of horizontal stresses, the applied pressure and the orientation of measurement. Also, the measured moduli were determined under tensile stress, compressive stress, or both stresses. Thus, the stress effect on deformation modulus should be considered, not only for the interpretation of the results of borehole deformability measurement, but also for the design of underground gas storage and pressure tunnel, and for the interpretation of tunnel monitoring.
Lespedeza species have been widely used not only as plant resources for bark, leaves and honey, but also as erosion control materials. This study was carried out to investigate the structural and wood tiber characteristics in order to obtain basic information for the utilization of the wood. The wood structure was investigated for 10 selected species and the wood fiber, for the 5 selected species among Lespedeza species distributed all over the country. The following results were obtained. In the cross section, campylotropis showed ray diffuse porous wood, L. bicolor, L. cyrtobotrya, L. thunbergii var. intermedia, diffuse porous wood, and L. tomentella, L. angustifolioides. L. maritima, L. robusta, L. patentibicolor, ring porous wood. The maximum diameter of a single vessel ranged 66-123 ${\mu}$ in all species. Campylotropis showed the most number of vessels, L. angustifolioides, the least. The number of ray per mm ranged 7-22, Campylotropis showed the most number of rays, L. angustifolioides, the least. In the radial section the average length of vessel ranged 121-250 ${\mu}$ in all species. L. thunbergii var. intermedia showed the longest vessel, L. tomentella, the shortest. In tangential section the average width of the uniseriate ray ranged 9.2-14.7${\mu}$, that of the multiseriate ray, 19.2-42.1 ${\mu}$. The average height of the uniseriate ray ranged 143.0-1162.0 ${\mu}$. The width of fiber ranged 10.12-13.61 ${\mu}$, L. maximowiezii showed the narrowest tiber, L. thunbergii var. intermedia. the widest, the thickness of fiber wall ranged 2.93-3.71 ${\mu}$ in the five species. L. maximowiezii showed the most thin fiber wall, L. thunbergii var. intermedia, the thickest, L. cyrtobotrya showed the difference in the size of fiber between the shade and the sunny sites but L. maximowiezii showed no difference. There was significant difference in fiber length, fiber width and wall thickness between L. eyrtobotrya and L. maximowiezii.
Reduction of yam hairiness by nozzles in ring spinning and winding is a new approach. Simulation of the airflow pattern inside the nozzles provides useful information about actual mechanism of hairiness reduction. The swirling air current inside the nozzles is capable of wrapping the protruding hairs around the yam body, thereby reducing yam hairiness. Since production rate of winding is very high and the process itself increases yarn hairiness any method to reduce the hairiness of yarns at this stage is a novel approach. A CFD (computational fluid dynamics) model has been developed to simulate the airflow pattern inside the nozzles using Fluent 6.1 software. In this study, both S- and Z-type nozzles having an axial angle of 500 and diameter of 2.2 mm were used for simulation studies. To create a swirling effect, four air holes of 0.4 mm diameter are made tangential to the inner walls of the nozzles. S- and Z-twisted yams of 30 tex were spun with and without nozzles and were tested for hairiness, tensile and evenness properties. The total number of hairs equal to or exceeding 3 mm (i.e. the S3 values) for yam spun with nozzle is nearly 49-51 % less than that of ring yams in case of nozzle-ring spinning, and 15 % less in case of nozzle-winding, while both the yarn types show little difference in evenness and tensile properties. Upward airflow gives best results in terms of hairiness reduction for nozzle-ring and nozzle wound yams compared to ring yarns. Yarn passing through the centre of the nozzle shows maximum reduction in S3 values.
A stress-induced brittle failure in deep tunneling generates spalling and slabbing, eventually causing a v-shaped notch formation. An empirical relationship for the depth of the notch to the maximum tangential stress assuming an equivalent circular cross-section was proposed (Martin et al. 1999). While this empirical approach has been well recognized in the industry and used as a design guideline in many projects, its applicability to a non-circular opening is worth revisiting due to the use of equivalent circular profile. Moreover, even though the extent of the notch also contributes to notch failure, it has not been estimated to date. When the estimate of both the depth and the extent of notch are combined, a practical and economically justifiable support design can be achieved. In this study, a new methodology to assess the depth as well as the extent of notch failure is developed. Field data and numerical simulations using the Cohesion Weakening Frictional Strengthening (CWFS) model were collected and correlated with the three most commonly accepted failure criteria (σ1/σ3, Dis=σmax/σc, σdev/σcm). For the numerical analyses, the D-shaped tunnel was used since most civil tunnels are built to this profile. Inferential statistical analysis is applied to predict the failure range with a 95% confidence level. Considering its accuracy and simplicity, the new correlation can be used as an enhanced version of failure assessment.
