  • A numerical analysis is carried out in order to obtain aerodynamic data of the ski jump. The body modelling of Korean people is used in the numerical simulation and the result is validated by comparing it with the wind tunnel experiment. A flying posture, which provides the maximum lift-to-drag ratio, is found by analyzing the aerodynamic coefficients of various flight conditions. The result of the present study can be applied to fixing the postures of Korean ski players and is expected to advance the national sports science.

  • Marine technology must advance to meet the needs of a wealthier and more demanding public while at the same time provide greater environmental protection. Pollution noise and vibration is the specific issue being discussed in this paper Noise is of course due to vibration from high speed engines driving generators, entilators, winch and other gear, while underwater noise pollution results from the propellers and the resistance produced by the hull of the ship moving through the water. Vibration is also a factor in potential damage to sensitive electronic gear and metal fatigue. The issue of noise pollution does not cease when a vessel enters her berth and the main engines shut down. There is still the matter of ventilation and other mechanical factors at work to maintain a comfortable, efficient environment. We measured the noise level and vibration displacement in the training ship A-Ra at underway and Berth. The authors analyzed the frequency of noise and maximum vibration displacement in the position.

  • An on-chip current sensor with fast response time for the peak-current-mode buck regulator is proposed. The initial operating points of the peak current sensor are determined in advance by the valley current level, which is sensed by a valley current sensor. As a result, the proposed current sensor achieves a fast response time of less than 20 ns, and a sensing accuracy of over 90%. Applying the proposed current sensor, the peak-current-mode buck regulator for the mobile application is realized with an operating frequency of 2 MHz, an output voltage of 0.8 V, a maximum load current of 500 mA, and a peak efficiency of over 83%.

  • The early -age behavior of base restrained reinforced concrete (RC) walls is analyzed using a three-dimensional finite element method in this study. After calculating the temperature and internal relative humidity variations of an RC wall, determination of stresses due to thermal gradients, differential drying shrinkage, and average drying shrinkage is followed, and the relative contribution of these three stress components to the total stress is compared. The mechanical properties of early-age concrete, determined from many experimental studies, are taken into consideration, and a discrete reinforcing steel derived using the equivalent nodal force concept is also used to simulate the cracking behavior of RC walls. In advance, to Predict the crack spacing and maximum crack width in a base restrained RC wall, an analytical model which can simulate the post-cracking behavior of an RC tension member is introduced on the basis of the energy equilibrium before and after cracking of concrete.

  • Through the combination of existing tidal prediction model and numerical tidal model, the efficient tidal prediction system was formulated and applied to the neighboring area of Pusan port. Because all tidal constituents for tidal prediction (69 tidal constituents are normally used) couldn't be considered due to the physical limits on computing process, some errors between the observed and predicted values were inevitably occurred. But it was confirmed that the computed values with maximum 10% of relative errors can be obtained if four major tidal constituents(M2, S2, K1, O1) are used. Thus, if other constituents than four major tidal constituents are additionally used, more accurate values will be obtained. Furthermore, if the database for harmonic constants in coastal waters is made in advance, using the numerical tidal model, prompt tidal prediction can be achieved at any time when it is required.

  • This paper introduces a new energy function, as maximum a posteriori(MAP) estimate of binocular disparity, that can deal with both random dot stereo-gram(RDS) and natural scenes. The energy function uses phase-magnitude as features to detect only the shift for a pair of corrupted conjugate images. Also we adopted Fleet singularity that effectively detects unstable areas of image plant and thus eliminates in advance error-prone stereo mathcing. The multi-scale concept is applied to the multi laser architecture that can search the solutions systematically from coarse to fine details and thereby avoids drastically the local minima. Using mean field approximation, we obtained a compact representation that is suitable for fast computation. In this manner, the energy function satisfies major natural constraints and requirements for implementing parallel relaxation. As an experiment, the proposed algorithm is applied to RDS and natural stereo images. As a result we will see that it reveals good performance in terms of recognition errors, parallel implementation, and noise characteristics.

  • This paper proposes a new torque control algorithm for BLDC motors to get the maximum torque in the high speed region. The delay of the phase currents is severe due to the stator reactance. The torque fluctuations of BLDC motors increase and the average torque is decreases due to a slow rise in the phase current when compared to the back EMF. In this paper, the phase current of BLDC motors under the high speed condition is analyzed and a torque maximization control is developed on the basis of using numerical analysis. Computer simulations and experimental results show the usefulness of the proposed control algorithm.

  • During the last decade, genomic cohort study has been developed in many countries by linking health data and genetic data in stored samples. Genomic cohort study is expected to find key genetic components that contribute to common diseases, thereby promising great advance in genome medicine. While many countries endeavor to build biobank systems, biobank-based genome research has raised important ethical concerns including genetic privacy, confidentiality, discrimination, and informed consent. Informed consent for biobank poses an important question: whether true informed consent is possible in population-based genomic cohort research where the nature of future studies is unforeseeable when consent is obtained. Due to the sensitive character of genetic information, protecting privacy and keeping confidentiality become important topics. To minimize ethical problems and achieve scientific goals to its maximum degree, each country strives to build population-based genomic cohort research project, by organizing public consultation, trying public and expert consensus in research, and providing safeguards to protect privacy and confidentiality.

  • In MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), users advance their own characters to get to the maximum (max) level by performing given tasks in the game scenario. Although it is crucial to retain users with high levels for running online games successfully, little efforts have been paid to investigate them. In this study, by analyzing approximately 60 million in-game logs of over 50,000 users, we aimed to investigate the process through which users achieve the max level and churn of such users since the moment of achieving the max level, and determine possible indicators related to churn after the max level. Based on the result, we can predict churn of the max level users by employing behavioral patterns before the max level. Moreover, we found users who are socially active and communicate with many people before the max level are less likely to leave the service (p<0.05). This study supports that communication patterns are important factors for persistent usage of the users who achieve the max level, which has practical implications to guide elite users on enjoying online games in the long run.

  • The construction of an emergency spillway of Imha Dam is being in progress on the granite region including fault fractured zone. Considering that this tunnel is being excavated in three paralled rows, the pillar width between each tunnel and the face distance between each tunnel face were evaluated. The Influence of the fault fractured zone for the tunnel stability was investigated by numerical modelling in 3D. Various geophysical investigations and rock engineering field tests were carried out for these purposes. It was suitable that the second tunnel would be excavated in advance, maintaining the face distance between each tunnel face of minimum 25 m. The results of numerical modelling showed that the roof displacement and the convergence of the second tunnel were insignificant, and the maximum bending compressive stress, the maximum shear stress of shotcrete and the maximum axial force of rockbolt were also insignificant. Therefore, it was estimated that the stability of the spillway tunnel was ensured.
