  • As a case study on aspect ratio behavior, Kaolin, zeolite, $TiO_2$, pozzolan and diatomaceous earth minerals are investigated using wet milling with 0.3 pai media. The grinding process using small media of 0.3 pai is suitable for current work processing applications. Primary particles with average particle size distribution D50, ${\sim}6{\mu}m$ are shifted to submicron size, D50 ${\sim}0.6{\mu}m$, after grinding. Grinding of particles is characterized by various size parameters such as sphericity as geometric shape, equivalent diameter, and average particle size distribution. Herein, we systematically provide an overview of factors affecting the primary particle size reduction. Energy consumption for grinding is determined using classical grinding laws, including Rittinger's and Kick's laws. Submicron size is obtained at maximum frictional shear stress. Alterations in properties of wettability, heat resistance, thermal conductivity, and adhesion increase with increasing particle surface area. In the comparison of the aspect ratio of the submicron powder, the air heat conductivity and the total heat release amount increase 68 % and 2 times, respectively.

  • There is a limit for deforestation in order to keep the environmental cycle undisturbed. The heart of the paper is to replace the wood to a maximum extent to obtain a sustainable environment. This research aims at new natural composites in which treated hemp fiber used as reinforcement, synthetic cellulose used as particulate to improve the adhesion between matrix - fiber interface and Epoxy LY556 acted as matrix fabricated by hand layup technique. The density, water absorption, tensile properties, impact strength, hardness, flexural properties and compressive properties have been evaluated under ASTM standards and compare the results with existing materials such as wood, aluminium, etc., The composite hemp fiber reinforced polymer (HFRP) could be exploited as an effective replacement for wood and it would be suitable for automotive applications by comparing results.

  • One of the principal problems encountered in the use of glass fiber reinforced Plastic composites(GFRP) is to establish an active fiber surface to achieve maximum adhesion between resin and fiber surface. In order to develope new process to overcome the disadvantage of chemical agent, we have studied the effect of reactive plasma glass surface treatment on the electrical and mechanical properties of glass fiber reinforced epoxy composites. It is found that the electrical and mechanical characteristics of the composites treated with plasma is improved especially in the dielectric strength by 20% and tensile strength by 15%, whereas the tan $\delta$ is decreased significantly.

  • Surface treatment was carried out by an Excimer Pulse laser beam in order to increase the adhesive strength of vulcanized rubber. With increasing number of laser beam irradiations, the adhesive strength was greatly increased; the adhesive strength was 1,500 N/m after irradiation 100 times. The energy density increase was in direct proportion to the adhesive strength increase; the maximum value of the adhesive strength was 1,500 N/m at the energy density of 176 mJ/$cm^{2}$. It was concluded that the increase of surface area was relevant to that of both energy density and adhesive strength

  • In this research we made cement particle with the average size of 4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ which can penetrate even minor cracks based on the theory of J. K. Michel who reported particles can penetrate the crack of width up to 3 times of maximum particle size. The inorganic crack injection materials were produced by adding superplasticizer. Physical properties of hardened slurry with JIS molds were also tested at 3, 7 and 28 days and the adhesion properties of the slurry in various process conditions were also tested at 3, 7 and 28 days. The cracked specimens which were repaired with slurries produced at various conditions were tested after 3, 7 and 28 days curing in the air and split tensile strength properties were characterized.

  • Experiments described in which cotton fabrics at different stages of chemical processing were abraded to different extents on a Stoll Abrasion Tester with three different abradants, namely, a worsted fabric, flax fabric and silicon carbide paper. The four different plain-weave cotton fabrics selected were 1) desized, 2) scoured and bleached, 3) mercerized, 4) resin-treated. The surface abrasive damages of treated fabrics were observed by SAM, and load-elongation percent retentions of abraded samples were measured by Instrong Tester. The result were as follows: 1. The maximum percent retention of load-elongation with three different abradants was exhibited by the scoured and bleached fabrics and the minimum by the resin finished fabric. 2. The electron micrographs of four different cotton fabrics abraded by flax, worsted fabric abradants for 900 rubs showed a large number of criss-crossing stray fibers in fabric structure. It may be the molecular adhesion for frictional resistance to be explained. 3. The electron micrographs of four different cotton fabrics abraded by silicone carbide abradants showed the form of busing or mashing fibers in fabric structure. The above might be on the basis of the ploughing theory.

  • In the construction of earth dam, embankment, highway by filling, a compaction is to increase the density of applying pressure. By compaction interspaces between the soil graivos decrease so that density and adhesion increase but void and permeability decrease. Good compaction results in higher stablilty. The effect of the compaetion depends on a number of factors, of which the most important are soil charactesistics. Water content, and external force. In this study discussed is about sandy loam that since, with indentical force exerted and indentical compaction method, the effect of the compaction will be different due to the soil characteristics, the change of optimum moisture content and of maximum dry density by compaction yields difference in Compaction for a same sample.

  • Surface treatment using an excimer pulse laser beam has been conducted in order to increase the adhesive strength of vulcanized rubber. The adhesive strength increased with increasing the number of irradiation time with laser pulses and reached to 1,500 N/m after 100 cycles of irradiation. Increased in energy density was directly proportional to the improvement of the adhesive strength. Maximum value of the adhesive strength of 1,500 N/m obtained at the energy density of 176 mJ/$\textrm{cm}^2$. We conclude that an increased energy density improves in both the surface area and adhesive strength.

  • Resorcinol-tannin-formaldehyde-latex(RTFL) adhesive was prepared to bond SBR to nylon in reinforced rubber composites. A key factor of adhesive contributes to the adhesion strength between SBR and nylon was the toughness of adhesive itself. Although the stiffness and strength of adhesive film decreased slightly with increasing level of tannin substitution for resorcinol in a standard RFL adhesive, the maximum toughness of adhesive film, which showed yield behavior and high dissipative capacity, was obtain by 60% tannin substitution. However, a marked softening and reduction in toughness occurred at sufficiently high substitution. Also, the adhesive film, which was heat-treated to simulate cure, showed higher strength than the unheated film. Thus, the properties of tannin containing adhesives could be optimized by using 40/60 weight ratio of the resorcinol/tannin in RTFL adhesive composition as well as heat treatment of adhesive film.

  • Woven sisal textile fiber reinforced composites were used to evaluate fracture toughness, tensile and three-point bending. The water absorption testing of all specimens was repeated five times in this study. All specimens were immersed in pure water during 9 days at room temperature, and dried in 1 day at $50^{\circ}C$. Two kinds of polymer matrices such as epoxy and vinyl-ester were used. Fractured surfaces were taken to study the failure mechanism and fiber/matrix interfacial adhesion. It is shown that it can be enhanced to improve their mechanical performance to reveal the relationship between fracture toughness and water absorption fatigue according to different polymer matrices. Water uptake of the epoxy composites was found to increase with cycle times. Mechanical properties are dramatically affected by the water absorption cycles. Water-absorbed samples showed poor mechanical properties, such as lower values of maximum strength and extreme elongation. The $K_{IC}$ values demonstrated a decrease in inclination with increasing cyclic times of wetting and drying for the epoxy and vinyl-ester.
