Steroid Metabolism in the Blackfin Flounder Glyptocephalus stelleri during Oocyte Maturation (기름가자미(Glyptocephalus stelleri) 성숙기 난모세포에서의 성스테로이드 호르몬 대사물질 분석)

  • We studied oocyte steroidogenesis in the blackfin flounder Glyptocephalus stelleri as a region-specific species, in the East Sea of Korea during the spawning season. Maturing oocytes (0.76, 0.82, 0.88, and 0.91 mm in oocyte diameter) were incubated in vitro in the presence of [$^3H$] $17{\alpha}$-hydroxyprogesterone ($[^3H]17{\alpha}$-OHP) as a precursor. Steroid metabolites were extracted from the incubated medium and oocytes, and the extracts were separated and identified by thin-layer chromatography (TLC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatographymass spectrometry (GC/MS). The major metabolites produced from $[^3H]17{\alpha}$-OHP were androgens [androstenedione (A4) and testosterone (T)] and estrogens [$17{\beta}$-estradiol (E2) and estrone (E1)] and progestins [$17{\alpha},20{\alpha}$-dihydroxy-4-pregen-3-one ($17{\alpha}20{\alpha}P$) and $17{\alpha}20{\beta}$-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one ($17{\alpha}20{\beta}P$)] in maturing oocytes. The metabolic rate of $17{\alpha}20{\beta}$ was elevated (29.04%) in oocytes measuring 0.88 mm (nucleus migration stage following the induction of germinal vesicle breakdown), but was very low in oocytes measuring 0.76, 0.82, and 0.91 mm (0.42, 0.67, and 2.62%, respectively). From these results, we suggest that $17{\alpha}20{\beta}P$ acts as a maturation-inducing steroid in the blackfin flounder.

Changes of Seed Moisture Content and Quality during Grain-filling in Early Maturing Soybean Genotypes (올콩의 등숙단계별 종실 수분함량 및 품질 변화)

  • Soybean seeds deteriorate even before harvest, especially under high temperature and high relative humidity conditions. This study was conducted to determine the effect of harvest date on seed quality in early maturing soybean cultivars. Soybean cultivars used in the experiment were Damyang-native, having small seed with yellow color, and Yuhsuzumi, having large seed with green color. The length of physiological maturity to grain harvest was 24 days in Yuhsuzumi and 8 days in Damyang-native. The moisture contents of seed were 25.3 % in Yuhsuzumi and 14.5 % in Damyang-native cultivar when pod reached its mature pod color. The seed color of Yuhsuzumi started to turn yellow, and its germination rate was greatly decreased when harvest was delayed after maturity, However, Damyang-native cultivars produced seed of high quality regardless of delayed harvest.

  • New onion hybrid cultivar, "Yeongpunghwang" was developed from cross between "MOS8", male sterile line and "Mokpo 11", pollen line by Mokpo Sub-Station, National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science, RDA in 2008. The crossing line was performed yield test in 2003. IT was evaluated as "Mokpo 11" in the regional yield trial test(RYT) from 2006 to 2008 during three years. This line is semi-erect plant growth type and has green leaf colour. It has broad ovate bulb shape and yellow skin colour in bulb characteristics. Plant height, leaf number, and bolting rate was 78cm, 7.9, and 3.9%, respectively. Lodging date as harvesting indicator was on 26 May. The yield potential of "Yeongpunghwang" was out-yielding 6% compare to check variety ("Sunpower") by with 8,344 kg/10a in RYT. It showed moderated cold hardness in all regional location which was conducting RYT, including Muan, Goheung, Changyeong and Andong. So this variety was recommend as a leading variety at southern area of korea.

Insect Pest Control of Aphides for Alisma plantago Cultivated after Early Maturing Rice Cropping (살충제에 의한 택사 잔딧물 방제)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of pesticides on insect pest control of Aphides, growth characteristies and dry root yield from the cultivated after early maturing rice cropping. All pesticides treated had no effect on the growth period, flowering rate of Alisma plantago. The major pesticides were Methomyl-Lf, 24.1%., Imidacloprid-Wp, 10%., Car-bosulfan-Wp, 20%, and Methomyl-Wp,45%. Dry yield of root were increased largely with Imidacloprid-Wp, 10%(10g/20 ι), pesticide than the other pesticides and no control. All pesticides were had no injury with recommended concentration. On the other hand all pesticides were slightly harmful in the double dosage level for the Alisma plantago.

Proper Transplanting Time for Improving the Rice Quality at Reclaimed Saline Land in the Southwestern Area (서남부 간척지에서의 고품질 쌀 생산을 위한 적정 이앙시기)

  • This experiment was carried out to identify the proper transplanting time at reclaimed saline land in the southwestern area of Korea from 2002 to 2004. The rice cultivars tested were Samcheonbyeo(Early maturing one), Nampyeongbyeo (Medium maturing one) and Hwaseongbyeo(Mid-late maturing one). The results are summarized as follows: No. of spikelet per the unit area was higher at transplanting on May 20 than those of the other transplanting time. when Samcheonbyeo was transplanted early, the ripened grain rate was high. But, Hwaseongbyeo and Nampyeongbyeo wasn't differ among transplanting time. The yield of milled and head rice(YMHR) was high transplanted May 20 in Samcheonbyeo, May 30 in Hwaseongbyeo, from May 20 to June 9 in Nampyeongbyeo. Among the varieties YMHR was higher in the order of Hwaseongbyeo, Samcheonbyeo and Nampyeongbyeo. There wasn't different of amylose and protein content among the transplanting time and varieties. But, palatability value was low transplanted early(May 20). Considering the rice growth, the rice good quality, the yield of milled and head rice, the proper transplanting time was May 20 to May 30 in Samcheonbyeo and Hwaseongbyeo, whereas Nampyeongbyeo was from May 20 to-June 9.

Influence of Transplanting Dates on Some Characteristics of Rice Varieties (생육기간의 차이가 수도 지상부 형질변이에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was conducted to study the influence of different cultivation periods on some morphological and agronomic characteristics of rice plant at Iri, the Honam plain, in 1979. Early maturing varieties showed little delay in heading with late transplanting, but intermediate and late maturing varieties showed more than 7 day delay in heading. The number of days required to reach heading was over 55 and 67 days after transplanting in early and intermediate-late maturing varieties, respectively. There was significantly postitive correlation between the length of vegetative stage and the grain yield. The mean temperature during ripening period was significantly correlated with the grain yield and the percentage of filled grains. The length, width, and thickness of leaf increased with earlier transplanting and the elongation degree between upper and lower leaves showed the same tendency. The productivity of dry matter and the translocation rate of photosynthate to spikelet decreased with late transplanting mainly due to low temperature. LAI was also influenced by transplanting date showing close correlation with yield. Early transplanting was desirable for assimilation and dry matter accumulation.

Rice Growth and Grain Quality in No-till and Organic Farming Paddy Field as Affected by Different Rice Cultivars (무경운 및 유기농 논에서 품종에 따른 벼 생육 및 미질 특성 구명)

  • This study was to find out optimum rice cultivars for organic farming in no-tillage paddy. A field research was conducted the yield, yield components, and qualities of thirty two Korean rice cultivars, and two Japanese rice cultivars. The column length of early rice plant was shorter in medium maturing rice cultivars compared to early, and medium-late maturing rice cultivars. Planthopper population per20-plant was lower in Ilpumbyeo, Dongjinbyeo, Hojinbyeo, Donganbyeo, and Sobeebyeo in that order while was higherin rice cultivars of early maturity. The disease severity of sheath blight was higher in Saechucheongbyeo>Chucheongbyeo>Namwonbyeo>Sangmibyeo in that order, on the other hand, that was lowerinHwaseongbyeo>Junambyeo>Saesangjubyeo=Hitomebore>Ilpumbyeo>Hwayeongbyeo in that order, respectively. The grain yield of Korean rice cultivars was significantly higher in 2.95 Mg $ha^{-1}$ for Hwasinbyeo, 2.91 Mg $ha^{-1}$ for Ilpumbyeo, 2.86 Mg $ha^{-1}$ for Sobeebyeo, 2.73 Mg $ha^{-1}$ for Naepungbyeo, and 2.70 Mg $ha^{-1}$ for Saegyehwabyeo compared with 1.38 Mg $ha^{-1}$ for Hwabongbyeo, 1.62 Mg $ha^{-1}$ for Hwayeongbyeo, and 1.78 Mg $ha^{-1}$ for Haepyeongbyeo of medium maturing rice cultivars, respectively. Toyo taste value of medium maturing rice cultivars tended to higher than that of early, and medium-late maturing rice cultivars. Ripening rate of rice cultivars was significantly positive correlated with Toyo taste value while negative correlated with protein content. According to principal component analysis, these results show that Sangmibyeo, Sangsanbyeo, and Odaebyeo for early maturity, Naepungbyeo, and Sobeebyeo for medium maturity, and Hwasinbyeo, Chucheongbyeo, and Sindongjinbyeo for medium-late maturity were optimum rice cultivars for organic farming in no-tillage paddy.

Screening of Insecticides for Control of Spodoptera exigua in Double Cropping after Early Rice Alisma plantago

Dry root yield were increased largely with tebufenozide Wp, 5%(20 g/20 l), insecticide than the other insecticides and no control. All insecticides had no injury with standard dosage. On the other hand, all insecticides had slight injury in the double dosage level for the Alisma plantago.

All fungicides treated had no effect on the growth and flowering rate of Alisma plantago. The major fungicides were mancozeb Wp, 75%, chlorothalonil Wp, 75%, dithianon Wp, 43%, difenoconazole Wp, 10%, benomyl Wp, 50%, and propineb Wp, 70%. Dry root of yield were increased largely with chlorothalonil Wp, 75%(33 g/20), fungicide than the other fungicides and control. All fungicides had no injury with standard dosage. On the other hand all fungicides had slight injury in the double dosage level for the Alisma plantago.
