  • There are various methods for evaluating a matrix square root, which is a solvent of the quadratic matrix equation $X^2-A=0$. We consider new iterative methods for solving matrix square roots of M-matrices. Particulary we show that the relaxed binomial iteration is more efficient than Newton-Schulz iteration in some cases. And we construct a formula to find relaxation coefficients through statistical experiments.

  • In this paper, we propose a correlation-based subspace estimation technique, which is called square-root forward/backward correlation-based projection approximation subspace tracking(SRFB-COPAST). The SRFB-COPAST utilizes the forward and backward correlation matrix as well as square-root recursive matrix update in projection approximation approach to develop the subspace tracking algorithm. With the projection approximation, the square-root recursive FB-COPAST is presented. The proposed algorithm has the better performance than the recently developed COPAST method.

  • We study an algorithm that can efficiently find square roots and cube roots by modifying Tonelli-Shanks algorithm, which has an application in Number Field Sieve (NFS). The Number Field Sieve, the fastest known factoring algorithm, is a powerful tool for factoring very large integer. NFS first chooses two polynomials having common root modulo N, and it consists of the following four major steps; 1. Polynomial Selection 2. Sieving 3. Matrix 4. Square Root. The last step of NFS needs the process of square root computation in Number Field, which can be computed via square root algorithm over finite field.

  • In this paper, we apply the 2-D Matrix Pencil Method(MPM) to the estimation of the direction of arrival(DOA) of multiple signals of interest(SOIs) in bistatic MIMO radar. The 2-D MPM shows remarkable performance under a low SNR environment and low computational complexity to estimate the DOA of multiple SOIs. Also, it is possible to estimate the direction of departure(DOD) which is an angle from transmitter to target. To verify the proposed algorithm, we applied the proposed algorithm to a uniformly spaced linear array(ULA) and compared the RMSE(Root Mean Square Error) of DOA and DOD under the various SNR with those of the 2-D Capon algorithm.

  • The effect of loading dose, plasticiser and PVA molecular weight on naproxen release from hydrophilic polymer matrix was examined. Hydrophilic polymer matrix was prepared with PVA and PVP by adding glycerine as plasticiser. The release of naproxen from polymer matrix was determined in phosphate buffer medium. The release rate of naproxen from the polymer matrix increased as drug loading dose and plasticiser percentage increased. Raproxen released from the polymer matrix showed the time square root kinetics. Without changing the release-pattern, the release rate of naproxen could not be changed by varying molecular weight of PVA. Linearly released time range increased as drug loading dose increased, whereas decreased as plasticiser percentage increased up to 30%.

  • In this study, novel approximate form of the square-root operator of three dimensional acoustic Parabolic Equation (3D PE) is proposed using a rational approximant for two variables. This form has two advantages in comparison with existing approximation studies of the square-root operator. One is the wide-angle capability. The proposed form has wider angle accuracy to the inclination angle of ${\pm}62^{\circ}$ from the range axis of 3D PE at the bearing angle of $45^{\circ}$, which is approximately three times the angle limit of the existing 3D PE algorithm. Another is that the denominator of our approximate form can be expressed into the product of one-dimensional operators for depth and cross-range. Such a splitting form is very preferable in the numerical analysis in that the 3D PE can be easily transformed into the tridiagonal matrix equation. To confirm the capability of the proposed approximate form, comparative study of other approximation methods is conducted based on the phase error analysis, and the proposed method shows best performance.

  • This study is an intensive study on Tae Rin Lee's research results. A linear system for Estimating the Strength of Super Personal Conflict (ESSPC) in animations is proposed. Tae Rin Lee has extracted the Super Personal Conflict (SPC) shots of animations, and obtained the strength through the experts' psychological test experiment. The purpose of this study is to find a model that automatically computes the superpersonal conflict intensity value (ESSPC). By utilizing these results, 1) 20 image feature vectors are suggested for analyzing the SPC, and 2) a linear system is found for auto-calculating ESSPC by using the pseudo inverse matrix. The proposed system shows 9.25% root mean square error and the effectiveness is proven.

  • In this study, we extend the application of the interface-matrix(IM) method for reflector modeling to Analytic Flux Expansion Nodal (AFEN) method. This include the modifications of the surface-averaged net current continuity and the net leakage balance conditions for IM method in accordance with AFEN fomular. AFEN-interface matrix (AFEN-IM) method has been tested against ZION-1 benchmark problem. The numerical result AFEN-IM method shows 1.24% of maximum error and 0.42% of root-mean square error in assembly power distribution, and 0.006%Δk of neutron multiplication factor. This result proves that the interface-matrix method for reflector modeling can be useful in AFEN method.

  • RSA, the most commonly used public-key cryptosystem, is based on the difficulty of factoring very large integers. The fastest known factoring algorithm is the Number Field Sieve(NFS). NFS first chooses two polynomials having common root modulo N and consists of the following four major steps; 1. Polynomial Selection 2. Sieving 3. Matrix 4. Square Root, of which the most time consuming step is the Sieving step. However, in recent years, the importance of the Polynomial Selection step has been studied widely, because one can save a lot of time and memory in sieving and matrix step if one chooses optimal polynomial for NFS. One of the ideal ways of choosing sieving polynomial is to choose two polynomials with same degree. Montgomery proposed the method of selecting two (nonlinear) quadratic sieving polynomials. We proposed two cubic polynomials using 5-term geometric progression.

  • Repeated oral administration of loxoprofen can induce many side effects such as gastric disturbances and acidosis. Therefore, we considered alternative routes of administration for loxoprofen to avoid such adverse effects. The aim of this study was to develop an ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) matrix system containing a permeation enhancer for enhanced transdermal delivery of loxoprofen. The EVA matrix containing loxoprofen was fabricated and the effects of drug concentration, temperature, enhancer and plasticizer on drug release were studied from the loxoprofen-EVA matrix. The solubility of loxoprofen was highest at 40% (v/v) PEG 400. The release rate of drug from drug-EVA matrix increased with increased loading dose and temperature. The release rate was proportional to the square root of loading dose. The activation energy (Ea), which was measured from the slope of log P versus 1000/T, was 5.67 kcal/mol for a 2.0% loaded drug dose from the EVA matrix. Among the plasticizer used, diethyl phthalate showed the highest release rate of loxoprofen. Among the enhancers used, polyoxyethylene 2-oleyl ether showed the greatest enhancing effect. In conclusion, for the enhanced controlled transdermal delivery of loxoprofen, the application of the EVA matrix containing plasticizer and penetration enhancer could be useful in the development of a controlled drug delivery system.
