  • In this report. it is assumed in the first chapter. various motives for modernizing of school mathematics can be indicated as the development of modern mathematics the highly advanced technology. the emergence of computor, and the progress of symbol logic. It is also confirmed that its modernizing process contains the modernization of contents in school mathematics. the broad application of school mathematics. the intellectualization of school mathematics. and the variation of its educational process. And the following chapter of this report is composed of the comparative study on the modernizing tendency of school mathematics among the SMSG of U. S. A., the mathematical education in France. and the late tendancy of Japan. The most significant part of the report is the chapter which propose the new program for school mathematics. It establishes the direction of school mathematics and its purpose. And at the same time it divides its fundamental conceptions into six parts according to school grades; the number. the operation. the functional relation. the quality and measure, the geometry, and the statistics. For the perspective of school mathematics, it is probable that the program for education and training of teachers could be realized, if it were spported by the system of specializing teachers and of functional teachers with advanced technology of education. Particularly the education of teachers contains the training of teachers as well as educational administrators or parents. Finally, the report concludes that the necessity of research required for the development of school mathematics must be emphasized in regard to the established program of teacher training.

  • The Center for Science Gifted Education (CSGE) of Chongju National University of Education was established in 1998 with the financial support of the Korea. Science & Engineering Foundation (KOSEF). In fact, we had prepared mathematics and science gifted education program beginning in 1997. It was possible due to the commitment of faculty members with an interest in gifted education. Now we have 5 classes in Mathematics, two of which are fundamental, one of which is a strengthened second-grade class gifted elementary school students, and one a fundamental class, and one a strengthened class for gifted middle school students in Chungbuk province. Each class consists of 16 students selected by a rigorous examination and filtering process. Also we have a mentoring system for particularly gifted students in mathematics. We have a number of programs for Super-Saturday, Summer School, Winter School, and Mathematics and Science Gifted Camp. Each program is suitable for 90 or 180 minutes of class time. The types of tasks developed can be divided into experimental, group discussion, open-ended problem solving, and exposition and problem solving tasks. Levels of the tasks developed for talented elementary students in mathematics can be further divided into grade 5 and under, grade 6, and grade 7 and over. Types of the tasks developed can be divided into experimental, group discussion, open-ended problem solving, and exposition and problem solving task. Also levels of the tasks developed for talented elementary students in mathematics can be divided into the level of lower than grade 5, level of grade 6, and level of more than grade 7. • This study aims to analyze the characteristics of students' understanding of artificial intelligence and mathematical concepts by developing and applying an artificial intelligence education program for mathematics convergence using robots. To this end, we analyzed the content standards of elementary artificial intelligence education to extract conceptual elements of artificial intelligence and identified mathematics achievement standards that can effectively integrate them. In particular, a five-session (15 classes in total) program was developed by selecting the units 'angle' and 'quadrilateral' suitable for utilizing the robot's movement and reorganizing the lesson to integrate the mathematics achievement standard with the artificial intelligence content elements. As a result of applying this to 22 fourth grade elementary school students over five months and analyzing the students' understanding revealed by topic of artificial intelligence content, the artificial intelligence education program for mathematics convergence using robots was helpful in students' understanding artificial intelligence principles and mathematical concepts. In addition, the use of robots was confirmed to improve students' understanding of artificial intelligence and mathematics as well as their participation in class by making them visually check a series of performing procedures.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an elementary mathematics education program for social justice. In the two years of research including literature review and development of a teaching model, forty 6th grade elementary students at two schools in Seoul participated as participants for verification of the effectiveness of the program. Parents' SES in each group is in the high and average levels, respectively. The students participated in 12 mathematical classes for social justice, and the effects of mathematics education for social justice were tested by using mixed method. As a result of the study, students' perceptions of mathematics and tendency toward mathematics were changed positively. The results of this study showed that students' perceptions on mathematics and tendency toward mathematics were influenced by individual ability, inclination, and condition rather than parents' socio-economic environments. It is necessary to develop high qualified and diverse mathematical materials for social justice in order to cultivate creative convergence ability that flexibly copes with future society. It is also necessary for teachers to look at mathematics education in a broader and deeper perspective such as seeing mathematics with humanistic imagination.

  • University teacher education programs have sought for ways of how to improve student teaching in order to supply mathematics teachers with practical theory to achieve the goals of the current educational reform in school mathematics. In this context, the purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of student teachers' teaching experience in the after-school mathematics programs and the ways of how to develop the after-school learning programs as an effective site for learning to teach based on the inquiry into student teachers' own teaching experience. For the purpose, data were collected through the interviews with the student teachers who had taught after-school mathematics class. In addition, data were collected through survey, class observation, and seminal meetings with the student teachers in order to supplement the findings from the interview analysis. Data analysis focused on the student teachers' experience with teaching in after-school mathematics classes, that is, what and how they had learned as teachers, what kinds of difficulties they encountered in their teaching and supports that they expect to improve their learning through teaching. The analysis shows that the teaching experience in the after-school programs had positively contributed to their development as future mathematics teachers. Specifically, the after-school programs provide the site for learning through teaching at the early stage of teacher education program. The after-school programs provided the students teachers for the opportunity to participate peripherally in educational practice of school. Through the participation, the student teachers developed positive attitudes toward teaching career and became to have more solid ideas about how to teach mathematics. Based on the analysis, this research provides following suggestions concerning how to improve student teaching. First, it is necessary to provide student teachers to participate into the practice of teaching at the early stage of teacher education programs. Second, it is important to give students teacher opportunity to participate in teaching at peripheral and legitimate positions. Finally, it is necessary to construct mentoring networks to support student teachers to move from a peripheral position toward a center of teaching practice.

  • This study was to analyze the research trend related to mathematics education evaluation in the analysis of the articles on , . The study explores the future direction of mathematics education assessment research by investigating whether such evaluation was suitable for the expectation about the assessment required in the current mathematics curriculum. This study was to classify the evaluation-related researches based on Korea educational curriculum revision from 1991-2010 to examine the research trend on the mathematics education evaluation in each season in Korea, analyze the articles by 'monitoring of student's progress', 'judgement on instruction', 'giving the value on mathematics achievement of students', 'value judgement of the program' that were the purpose of evaluation presented in 1995 NCTM(National Council of Teachers of Mathematics). As a result, looking at the research trend classified by the time of the educational curriculum revision, the 7th educational curriculum had the most number of the papers announced from 1997-2006. Despite 2007 educational curriculum revision was the short period from announced 2007-2008 before the next educational curriculum was placed, 11 papers(34.4%) were published. According to the category by the purpose of the assessment prescribed in NCTM, it showed that researches of 'monitoring of student's progress(46.9%)' were the most, those of 'value judgement of the program' and 'giving the value on mathematics achievement of students had a similar percentage.
