  • The purpose of this study was to develop math creative problem solving test in order to identify the mathematically gifted on the basis of their math creative problem solving ability and evaluate the goodness of the test in terms of its reliability and validity of measuring creativity in math problem solving on the basis of fluency in producing valid solutions. Ten open math problems were developed requiring math thinking abilities such as intuitive insight, organization of information, inductive and deductive reasoning, generalization and application, and reflective thinking. The 10 open math test items were administered to 2,029 Grade 5 students who were recommended by their teachers as candidates for gifted education programs. Fluency, the number of valid solutions, in each problem was scored by math teachers. Their responses were analyzed by BIGSTEPTS based on Rasch's 1-parameter item-response model. The item analyses revealed that the problems were good in reliability, validity, difficulty, and discrimination power even when creativity was scored with the single criteria of fluency. This also confirmed that the open problems which are less-defined, less-structured and non-entrenched were good in measuring math creativity of the candidates for math gifted education programs. In addition, it discriminated applicants for two different gifted educational institutions and between male and female students as well.

  • Over the past decades, an enormous amount of effort has been expended in laboratory and field studies on concrete durability estimation. The results of this research are still either widely scattered in the journal literature or mentioned briefly in the standard textbooks. Moreover, the theoretical approaches of deterioration mechanisms with a predictive character are limited to some complicated mathematical models not widespread in practice. A significant step forward could be the development of appropriate software for computer-based estimation of concrete service life, including reliable mathematical models and adequate experimental data. In the present work, the basis for the development of a computer estimation of the concrete service life is presented. After the definition of concrete mix design and structure characteristics, as well as the consideration regarding the environmental conditions where the structure will be found, the concrete service life can be reliably predicted using fundamental mathematical models that simulate the deterioration mechanisms. The prediction is focused on the basic deterioration phenomena of reinforced concrete, such as carbonation and chloride penetration, that initiate the reinforcing bars corrosion. Aspects on concrete strength and the production cost are also considered. Field observations and data collection from existing structures are compared with predictions of service life using the above model. A first attempt to develop a database of service lives of different types of reinforced concrete structure exposed to varying environments is finally included.

  • This study investigates the thermal post-buckling behavior of concrete eccentric annular sector plates reinforced with graphene oxide powders (GOPs). Employing the minimum total potential energy principle, the plates' stability and response under thermal loads are analyzed. The Haber-Schaim foundation model is utilized to account for the support conditions, while the transform differential quadrature method (TDQM) is applied to solve the governing differential equations efficiently. The integration of GOPs significantly enhances the mechanical properties and stability of the plates, making them suitable for advanced engineering applications. Numerical results demonstrate the critical thermal loads and post-buckling paths, providing valuable insights into the design and optimization of such reinforced structures. This study presents a machine learning algorithm designed to predict complex engineering phenomena using datasets derived from presented mathematical modeling. By leveraging advanced data analytics and machine learning techniques, the algorithm effectively captures and learns intricate patterns from the mathematical models, providing accurate and efficient predictions. The methodology involves generating comprehensive datasets from mathematical simulations, which are then used to train the machine learning model. The trained model is capable of predicting various engineering outcomes, such as stress, strain, and thermal responses, with high precision. This approach significantly reduces the computational time and resources required for traditional simulations, enabling rapid and reliable analysis. This comprehensive approach offers a robust framework for predicting the thermal post-buckling behavior of reinforced concrete plates, contributing to the development of resilient and efficient structural components in civil engineering.

  • Mathematics is means for making sense of one's experiential world and products of human activities. A usefulness of mathematics is derived from this features of mathematics. Keeping the meaning of situations during the mathematizing of situations. However, theories about the development of mathematical concepts have turned mainly to an understanding of invariants. The purpose of this study is to show the possibility of computer in representing situation and phenomena. First, we consider situated cognition theory for looking for the relation between various representation and situation in problem. The mathematical concepts or model involves situations, invariants, representations. Thus, we should involve the meaning of situations and translations among various representations in the process of mathematization. Second, we show how the process of computational mathematization can serve as window on relating situations and representations, among various representations. When using computer software such as ALGEBRA ANIMATION in mathematics classrooms, we identified two benifits First, computer software can reduce the cognitive burden for understanding the translation among various mathematical representations. Further, computer softwares is able to connect mathematical representations and concepts to directly situations or phenomena. We propose the case study for the effect of computer software on practical mathematics classrooms.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze middle school students' problem posing types and strategies. we analyzed problems posed by 120 middle school students during mathematics class focused on problem posing activities in various aspects. Students' posed problems were classified into five types: not a problem(NP), non-math(NM), impossible(IM), insufficient(IN), sufficient(SU) and each of the posed problems. Students used three kinds of problem posing strategies such as goal manipulation(GM), assumption manipulation(AM), and condition manipulation(CM), and in posing one problem, one or more than two strategies were used. According to the prior studies, problem posing can contributes to the development of students' problem solving ability, creativity, mathematical aptitude, and a broader understanding of mathematical concepts. However, we found that some students had difficulties in posing problems or limited understandings of that. We hope the results of the study contribute to encouraging problem posing activities in mathematics instruction.

  • This paper reports the development of a generalized inverse analysis formulation for the parameter estimation of four-parameter Burger model. The analysis is carried out by formulating the problem as a mathematical programming formulation in terms of identification of the design vector, the objective function and the design constraints. Thereafter, the formulated constrained nonlinear multivariable problem is solved with the aid of fmincon: an in-built constrained optimization solver module available in MatLab. In order to gain experience, a synthetic case-study is considered wherein key issues such as the determination and setting up of variable bounds, global optimality of the solution and minimum number of data-points required for prediction of parameters is addressed. The results reveal that the developed technique is quite efficient in predicting the model parameters. The best result is obtained when the design variables are subjected to a lower bound without any upper bound. Global optimality of the solution is achieved using the developed technique. A minimum of 4-5 randomly selected data-points are required to achieve the optimal solution. The above technique has also been adopted for real-time settlement of four oil refineries with encouraging results.

  • This paper introduces a new multi-product multi-period multi-objective aggregate production planning problem. The proposed problem is modeled using multi-objective mixed-integer mathematical programming. Three objective functions, including minimizing total cost, maximizing customer services level, and maximizing the quality of end-product, are considered, simultaneously. Several constraints such as quantity of production, available time, work force levels, inventory levels, backordering levels, machine capacity, warehouse space and available budget are also considered. Some parameters of the proposed model are assumed to be qualitative and modeled using fuzzy sets. Then, a fuzzy goal programming approach is proposed to solve the model. The proposed approach is applied on a real-world industrial case study of a color and resin production company called Teiph-Saipa. The approach is coded using LINGO software. The efficacy and applicability of the proposed approach are illustrated in the case study. The results of proposed approach are compared with those of the existing experimental methods used in the company. The relative dominance of the proposed approach is revealed in comparison with the experimental method. Finally, a data dictionary, including the way of gathering data for running the model, is proposed in order to facilitate the re-implementation of the model for future development and case studies.

  • As the consumer market in the eco-friendly vehicle industry grows, the demand for water pump in a electric car parts market. This study intend to propose a mathematical model that can verify the effect of improving thermal properties when a non-conductive cooling filler liquid is introduced into an electric vehicle water pump. Also, the pros and cons of the immersion cooling method and future development way were suggested by analyzing the cooling characteristics using on the derived analysis solution. Thermal characteristics analysis of electric water pump applied with non-conductive filler liquid was carried out, and the diffusion boundary condition in the motor body and the boundary condition the inside pump were expressed as a geometric model. As a result of analyzing the temperature change for the heat source of the natural convection method and the heat conduction method, the natural convection method has difficulty in dissipating heat because no decrease in temperature due to heat release was found even after 300 sec. Also, it can be seen that the heat dissipation effect was obtained even though the non-conductive filling liquid was applied at the 120 sec and 180 sec in the heat conduction method. It has proposed to minimize thermal embrittlement and lower motor torque by injecting a non-conductive filler liquid into the motor body and designing a partition wall thickness of 2.5 mm or less.

  • The purpose of this study is to develope the strength prediction model by Maturity Method. A maturity function is a mathematical expression to account for the combined effects of time and temperature on the strength development of a cementious mixture. The method of equivalent ages is to use Arrhenius equation which indicates the influence of curing temperature on the initial hydration ratio of cement. For the experimental factors of this study, we selected the concrete mixing of W/C ratio 45, 50, 55 and 60% and curing temperature 5, 10, 20 and $30^{\circ}C$. And we compare and evaluate with logistic model that is existing strength prediction model, because we have to verify adaption possibility of new strength prediction model which is proposed by maturity method. As the results, it is found that investigation of the activation energy that are used to calculate equivalent age is necessary, and new strength prediction model was proved to be more accurate in the strength prediction than logistic model in the early age. Moreover, the use of new model was more reasonable because it has low SSE and high decisive factor.

  • A mathematical model was developed for the prediction of the average temperature and RDT(RM Delivery temperature) in a roughing mill. The model consisted of three parts as follows (1) The intermediate numerical model calculated the deformation and heat transfer phenomena in the rolling: region by steady state FEM and the heat transfer phenomena in the interpass region by unsteady state FEM (2) The Off-line prediction model was derived from non-linear regression analysis based on the results of intermediate numerical model considering the various rolling conditions, (3) Using the heat flux in rolling region, temperature profile along thickness direction was calculated. For validation of the presented model, the rolling force per pass and RDT measued in on-line process was compared with those of model and the results showed close agreement with the existing data. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model, the various rolling conditions was tested.
