As an alternative of making students active and independent under the passive learning conditions in school math classes, many researchers have paid much attention to problem posing and done a lot of research on it. Above all, Brown and Walter proposed What I f Not strategy as a means of problem posing. In this strategy, during the process of posing problems, the transformation of their attributes is inevitably made, and so after problem posing, the process is finished by explaining the problem. But only the simple transformation of attributes could pose wrong problems. It suggests that it is very important to recognize the relationship which leads to organic connection between attributes in order to pose the right problem. However, many other studies of problem posing haven't focused on this fact. Thus, this study tried to design a model of problem posing to help recognize inherent knowledge in the problem and then pose the right problem by adding an activity of meaning analysis. We concretely showed a model of problem posing emphasizing the analysis of meaning by means of an example, thereby examining the meaning of the model. This study expects students to have the chance to understand the true meaning of problem posing and to be active learners after all.
The purpose of this study was to measure fundamental data required for the prediction of milling ratios, and to develop regression models to predict the head rice ratio of milled rice using NIR spectra of hulled rice. A total of 81 rice samples used in this study were collected from Jeongeup, Jeonbuk province in 2006. NIR spectra were measured using one mode of measurement, reflection. The reflectance spectra were measured in the wavelength region of 400-2500 nm with an NIR spectrophotometer "NIRSystems 6500" (Foss, Silverspring, USA). Calibration equations were developed by the modified partial least squares (MPLS), partial least squares (PLS), and principal components regression (PCR). Math treatments were 1-4-4-1, 1-10-10-1, 2-4-4-1, and 2-10-10-1. The software used was WinISI (Infrasoft International, State College, USA). Automatic head rice production and quality checking system used was "SY2000-AHRPQCS" (Ssangyong, Korea). The calibration was made with the first derivative and the spectrum designated was in 8 nm interval. The determination coefficients of head rice ratios were 0.8353, 0.8416 and 0.5277 for the MPLS, PLS and PCR, respectively. Those obtained with 20 nm interval were 0.8144, 0.8354 and 0.6908 for the MPLS, PLS and PCR, respectively. The calibration was made with second derivative that spectrum designated was 8 nm in interval. The determination coefficients of head rice ratios were 0.7994, 0.8017 and 0.4473 for the MPLS, PLS and PCR, respectively. Those with 20 nm interval were 0.8004, 0.8493 and 0.6609 for the MPLS, PLS and PCR, respectively. These results indicate that the accuracy of determination coefficient for MPLS and PLS is higher than that of PCR.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between teacher's role and interaction patterns in mathematics classrooms. Teacher's role was divided into usual practices with students, usual practices with content and usual practices with students and contents, and interaction patterns were classified into report, inquiry and discussion. The subjects in this study were teachers and students in three fourth- grade classes in T elementary school located in Seoul. After the classes of every math teacher were observed, three teachers who played distinctively unique roles were selected in accordance with the results of the first-semester autonomous supervision, of open class for parents and of the instructional observation. Thus, there was a close relationship between the teacher roles and interaction patterns. And it's concluded that students are able to have a more discussion on each other's ideas in the student-centered classroom, and that teachers should perform active roles in that process. Given the findings of the study, there are some suggestions: First, the teachers appeared to fulfill consistent roles when their videotaped classes, study aids and performance assessment materials were analyzed, and they should play more active roles in mathematics class. Second, they should try to create the kinds of climate that encourages students to come up with ideas in an active manner. Third, earlier studies had focused on student-teacher interaction patterns, but this study found that the roles of the teachers depended on interaction with not only students but study aids and performance assessment materials, and that the interaction patterns hinged on their roles as well. Therefore more profound research efforts should be directed into this issue.
In the current information-based society, information and communication technology(ICT) is very important for an individual, a society, and a nation. Especially, for a nation, ICT-related industries are forming an important part of a nation's economy. Also, unlike other industries, ICT-related industries do not require various infrastructures, and have an advantage of being developed with a few talented persons in a short period of time. In this sense, identification and education of gifted children in IT become an essential task of a nation's future. In the past, selection of the gifted children was based on paper tests. However, paper tests incurred various side effects such as private education. Since 2013, observation-recommendation system instead of paper tests has been fully adopted. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the validity of observation-recommendation admission system of the gifted children in IT. For this research purpose, the gifted children in gifted science education center attached in a university at Seoul become the focus of the samples. Their entrance score ranking and graduation record raking are compared for analysis of validity of admission system. After statistical analysis, there is a meaningful correlation between entrance score ranking and graduation record ranking for the gifted children in IT. It means that the higher entrance score ranking, the higher graduation record ranking. The analysis results are expected to be valuable baseline data for deciding usefulness of observation-recommendation admission system.

The 2015 national revised curriculum was notified officially the last year. The intent and direction of the revision caused more or less change for mathematical contents to be taught and is expected to cause a considerable change in math class. In the level of elementary school mathematics, it turned that several contents were deleted or moved to the upper grades because the revision focused especially both on reducing students' burden of learning and on fostering the mathematical key competences. This study aims to examine the relevance of the change through investigation of the national curriculums for elementary school mathematics since 1946. The mathematical contents to be analyzed in this study were mixed calculation of natural numbers, mixed calculation of fractions and decimal fractions, position and direction of objects, are/hectare and ton, the range of numbers and estimating, surface and volume of cylinders, pattern and correspondence, and direct/inverse proportionality, which were changed in any aspect relative to 2009 national revised curriculum. Based on the results of these analyses, the discussion will provide some suggestions for setting the direction of elementary mathematics curriculum.

This study examined elementary mathematics teacher's guidebook to determine the inclusion level of 11 critical features of evidence based instruction. And the inclusion level of the features in teacher's guidebook were interpreted as 'Low', 'Middle' and 'High'. The results are as followings. First, The overall inclusion level of the features in teacher's guidebook is 'Middle' The inclusion level of the features in teacher's guidebook for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th were 'Middle' but for 5th and 6th were 'Low'. Second, the inclusion level of the features 'Clarity of Objective', 'Single Concepts and Skill Taught', 'Use of Manipulatives and Representation', 'Explicit Instruction', 'Provision of Examples for new concepts and skill', 'Adequate Independent Practice Opportunities' and 'Progress Monitoring' were 'Middle' The inclusion level of the features 'Review of Prerequisite Mathematical Skills', 'Error correction and Corrective Feedback' and 'Instruction of Strategies' were 'Low'. And discussed the results.
The level-based task learning had an effect on enhancing the math achievement of enrichment and ordinary classes. Besides, the analysis of mathematical attitude change showed that the level-based task learning took effect in the experimental class in every domain, including self-confidence, flexibility, will power, reaction and value, while it made little difference to the comparative class. The findings were as follows in detail. 1. The Outcome of the Achievement Test 1) The Enrichment Class In the first two tests, there were little differences in the enrichment class, But the disparity between the experimental and comparative classes became larger as this study advanced with 4.3 for the third test, 6.4 for the fourth and 6.1 for the fifth. 2) The Ordinary Class In the first to fifth achievement tests, the ordinary class made less difference than the enrichment class did. But there appeared some effect as this study progressed, since the mean grade disparity between the experimental and comparative classes was 2.1 for the first test, 3.5 for the second, 3.9 for the third, 4.4 for the fourth and 6.3 for the fifth. 3) The Supplementary Class The supplementary class showed no big difference in the first two tests. But, like the ordinary class, there was some effect with the lapse of the third 2.9 for the test, 3.2 for the fourth and 4.1 for the fifth. 2. The Change of Mathematical Attitude 1) The Experimental Class The task learning by level had a great deal of effect on the experimental class, as the pre-and post-comparative analyses showed that this class's grades were 5.1 for self-confidence, 10.8 for flexibility, 11.3 for will power, 9.7 for curiosity, 10.9 for reaction and 2.8 for value. 2) The Comparative Class The relative comparison between the comparative class and experimental class revealed that there was a hole effect on the comparative class. 3. The Outcome of Questionnaire Survey 1) They showed a positive reaction, as 40.1% of them answered the level-based task loaming served to raise their achievement, and 48.0% told so-so, and 11.9% replied they weren't helped by it. 2) The results after the experiment were;37.8% of the students say they under- stood practically everything while 12.6% of them say they under stood almost half. 3) The will to learn after the experiment shows dramatic changes between the two classes, The students in the enrichment class showed better will to learn than the students in the ordinary and supplementary classes did.
Mathematics was the main domain of PISA 2012, and both paper-based and computer-based assessment of mathematics (CBAM) were conducted. PISA 2012 was the first large-scale computer-based mathematics assessment in Korea, and it is meaningful in that it evaluated students' mathematical literacy in problem situations using dynamic geometry, graph, and spreadsheet. Although Korea ranked third in CBAM, the use of ICT in mathematics lessons appeared to be low. On the other hand, this study focused on Singapore, which ranked first in CBAM. The Singapore Ministry of Education developed online programs such as AlgeTools and AlgeDisc, and implemented the programs in classes by specifying them in mathematics curriculum and textbooks. Thus, this study investigated influential factors on computer-based assessment of mathematics by comparing the results of Korea and Singapore, and aimed to provide meaningful evidence on the direction of Korea's ICT-based mathematics education. The results showed that ICT use at home for school related tasks, attitudes towards computers as a tool for school learning, and openness and perseverance of problem solving were positively associated with computer-based mathematics performance, whereas the use of ICT in mathematics class by teacher demonstration was negatively related. Efforts are needed to improve computer use and enhance teaching techniques related to ICT use in Korean math classes. Future research is recommended to examine how effectively teachers use ICT in mathematics class in Singapore.
The purpose of the study is the find out current status and key factors of attendance in private education of gifted students. The results show that 95.9% of gifted students and 94.6% of general students are currently participating in private education. Most percentages of students took English and math programs at the private institutes. Average amount of time students spend for private education was 2~3 hours per day, and most percentage of parents spent 400,000~600,000 won per month for their children's private education. There were no significant differences between the gifted and the general students in the aspects of private education statuses. Regarding the key factors of attendance in private education, improvement of study related skills, school grade management, and influences of surroundings, such as parents and friends, were showed as significant variables in gifted students group. Interestingly, influences of surroundings showed negative effect. For general students and their parents, improvement of study related skills and school grade management factors were significant variables. And for the parents of gifted students, improvement of study related skills and entering higher level schools appeared as significant factors for the participation in private education. Implications of the study were discussed in depth.
Research on entrepreneurial giftedness is in its initial stage and the importance is increasing these days. The purpose of this article was to provide a standard type of entrepreneurial gifted students by measuring their temperament and character separately. In the year of 2010 to 2011 participants of 'Future Creative Entrepreneur' projects which was governed by Korean Patent Office and Korean Intellectual Property Association participated the present study. They composed of middle and high school students and the total number of them was 246. For all the 7 temperament and character scales; the novelty seeking, the harm avoidance, the reward dependence, the persistence, the self-directedness, cooperativeness, and self-transcendence, scores of the entrepreneurial gifted students were significantly different from the norm group (average students at the same age). In a nut shell, entrepreneurial gifted students were optimistic in their temperament and mature in their character. They also manifested high ability of adjustment and control so they can manage their features of temperament which include all the advantages and weaknesses. The Entrepreneurial gifted students were differentiated from gifted science and math students, academically competent group, and high IQ group. Implications and further research directions were discussed.
