A Study On the Machinability of Steels by Drilling (드릴가공에서 강재의 피삭성에 관한 연구)

  • In order to predict analytically torque, thrust force, tool life and chip formation in drilling, cutting models for chisel edge with various tool-chip contact length were developed in this type. Also, the experimental tests are run with various pilot holes. The following conclusions were obtained from the analysis. \circled1 It's also found experimentally that thrust force(Fz) decreases as pilot hole diameter increases. \circled2 Surface roughness for material(G) is larger that for material(J). The difference over two materials in roughness value about 0.5$mu extrm{m}$. \circled3 Flank wear of the drill in cutting material of G less than any other kinds of materials(F, G, H, I, J). \circled4 In drilling a deep hole on a workpiece over SM45C either twist drill. The chip was conical helix type at the fist suspensely change the two segment type and than two a long pitch helix style.

  • The discharge of sewage sludge ash that is rapidly increasing in Korea. The utilization of sewage sludge ash would contribute to the elimination of an environmental problem and to the development of new high-performance materials. So the paper is focused on an experimental study in order to investigate the utilization of sewage sludge ash as the construction materials. It achieves leaching test, chemical composition and compressive strength test. As a result of tests, the sewage sludge ash has sufficient potential for use of pozzolanic raw material. However. it is judged to be available to construction material if research is continuously gone.

  • Insulation breakdown of water-cooled generator stator windings occurs frequently due to leakage of cooling water and absorption into the insulation material. Leakage and absorption problems of water-cooled stator windings are often found during regular preventive maintenance. To evaluate cooling water leakage and absorption, diagnostic tests were performed on two water-cooled turbine generators, which have been in service for 13 and 17 years, respectively. The test results of the measured electrical properties such as dissipation factor($tan{\delta}$), capacitance and AC leakage current for water-cooled generator stator windings with wet bars are reported in this paper.

  • The test method on materials of electrical power cable are used in accordance with 18 specifications of IEC, ICEA, KS and KEPCO Spec. The validation of test methods were checked and established by solving the problems occurred during the test. These tests are tensile strength, hot creep, shrink back, environmental stress cracking, flammability, oxygen index, absorption coefficient, differential scanning calorimetry, amount of ion in semiconductor, void, amber, contaminant and water tree etc. The performance test of power cable made by A, B, C, D company were evaluated and compared.

Evaluation of Lightweight Soil as a Subgrade Material (경량혼합토의 도로 노상층 재료 사용 가능성 평가)

  • PURPOSES : It is to evaluate lightweight soil as a subgrade material based on mechanical tests and calculation of pavement performance. METHODS : In this research, various contents of cement and air foam are used to make lightweight soil using wasted dredged soil. Uniaxial compressive strength test is conducted to evaluate strength of 7 and 28 day cured specimens. Secant modulus was calculated based on the stress and strain relationship of uniaxial compressive strength test. Resilient modulus test was measured using by repeated triaxial compression test. The measured resilient modulus was used in layered elastic program to predict fatigue and rutting life at a given pavement structure. RESULTS : Uniaxial compressive strength increases as cement content increases but decrease as air foam content increases. Resilient modulus also increases as cement content increases and decrease as air foam content decrease. CONCLUSIONS : It is concluded that dredge clay soil can be used as subgrade layer material using by lightweight treated soil method.

Lifetime Prediction of PTFE Electrical Insulation Material Using Thermal Analysis Technique (열분석장치를 적용한 PTFE 전기절연재의 수명 예측 연구)

  • A series of thermogravimetric analysis tests were conducted to predict the lifetime of the PTFE electrical insulation material. The prepared PTFE samples were heated from $25^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$ at different heating rates. The kinetic energy of the PTFE was calculated from the logarithmic heating rate versus reciprocal temperature curves at constant conversion levels. Also, the lifetime of the PTFE for a given operating temperature can be predicted using the relationship between the activation energy and the estimated lifetime proposed by Toop.

Lead-Lag Relationships between Import Commodity Prices and Freight Rates: The Case of Raw Material Imports of Korea

  • Purpose - This study investigates the lead-lag relations between the prices of major commodities imported into Korea and corresponding shipping freight rates. This paper aims to provide implications for cross-market causal relations between related economic segments. Design/Methodology - For economic long-run equilibrium between commodity prices and freights, a Johansen (1988) cointegration test is employed first. Then, Granger (1987) causality tests are performed under the vector error correction model (VECM) framework. Findings - The results indicate that the direction of causality varies by raw materials, which is attributable to different economic mechanisms in the corresponding shipping transportation sectors. In addition, the significance of causality becomes blurred during the post-2008 period. Practical Implication - Corporate managers in commodity trading, steelmaking, power generation, and oil refinery sectors can take advantage of the findings in this study as identifying leading economic indicators can be helpful for decision making in both short- and long-term strategies. Originality/value - This study is the first attempt to analyze the inter-relations between commodity prices and corresponding freight rates focusing on raw material imports of Korea.

An Interface Module for Dehumidify Dryer in a Injection Molding Smart Factory System

  • When the injection molding system molds some plastic products, defective product rate will be increased if plastic materials have some excessive moisture content. Therefore, it is very important to control the dehumidification and drying of plastic material. Since the moisture content of the plastic material may change from time to time depending on the material and the molding process, it is necessary to observe the change in real time and maintain a constant moisture content. To solve these problems, I proposed a smart factory system model for plastic molding in this paper. In addition, I designed the interface module to be installed in the dehumidifying dryer which is the core of this process. In addition to this, performance tests were conducted to check the effectiveness and the results were verified as valid.

Particle-based Numerical Modeling of Linear Viscoelastic Materials using MPM based on FEM for Taylor Impact Simulations

  • Taylor rod impact tests have been the subject of many theoretical and experimental investigations. This paper discusses the numerical methods for simulating the Taylor impact test, which is widely used to obtain constitutive equations and failure conditions under high-velocity collisions of materials. With this in mind, a particle-based MPM (material point method) for linear viscoelastic solid materials was implemented, and MPM simulations for viscoelastic deformation behavior were numerically verified and confirmed by comparing the MPM and FEM results. In addition, this modeling and numerical approach could be extended to more complex viscoelastic models for basic understanding and to analyze the deformation and fracture behavior of more complicated viscoelastic material systems.

Design Optimization of an Impact Limiter Considering Material Uncertainties

  • The design of a wooden impact limiter equipped to a transportation cask for radioactive materials was optimized. According to International Atomic Energy Agency Safety Standards, 9 m drop tests should be performed on the transportation cask to evaluate its structural integrity in a hypothetical accident condition. For impact resistance, the size of the impact limiter should be properly determined for the impact limiter to absorb the impact energy and reduce the impact force. Therefore, the design parameters of the impact limiter were optimized to obtain a feasible optimal design. The design feasibility criteria were investigated, and several objectives were defined to obtain various design solutions. Furthermore, a probabilistic approach was introduced considering the uncertainties included in an engineering system. The uncertainty of material properties was assumed to be a random variable, and the probabilistic feasibility, based on the stochastic approach, was evaluated using reliability. Monte Carlo simulation was used to calculate the reliability to ensure a proper safety margin under the influence of uncertainties. The proposed methodology can provide a useful approach for the preliminary design of the impact limiter prior to the detailed design stage.
