  • The purpose of this study is to analyze which group led the process of agenda setting of teacher's certification system in China from 1978 to 2018 using the Cobb & Elder's theoretical model. The period of about 40 years from 1978 to 2018 is divided into the introduction period of teacher's certification period (1978~1992), transition period (1993~1998), and stabilization stage (1999~2018). The agenda setting process was analyzed. As a result, the group that led the process of agenda setting of the Chinese teacher's certification system varied according to the period. The introduction period of teacher's certification system was analyzed as 'Inside Access Model' led by policy makers and government, and the transition period was confirmed as 'Mobilization Model' led by Chinese government and Ministry of Education. The stabilization period was analyzed as 'Outside Initiative Model' led by various groups such as mass media, researchers, and government. It was found that the process of agenda setting of teacher's certification system had been changing toward democratization according to the degree of development of Chinese society, and the quality control of teacher certifications had been strengthened.

  • In this study, we investigated the joint effects of message framing (profit vs. loss) and source type (celeb vs. general) on the persuasive effectiveness of mass media campaign to prevent drunk driving. As a result of conducting an experimental study on 218 motorcycle drivers in Vietnam, the main effects of message framing were not significant, but the interaction effect with the type of information source consistently influenced the attitude toward the advertisement, the drunk driving prevention, and the behavior intention Specifically, it is more persuasive to send a message by a general model rather than an celebrity when the loss framing method is used while it is more persuasive to send a message by a celebrity model than a general model when the gain framing is used. This study therefore provided valuable information and practical implication to the National Traffic Safety Committee of Vietnam for establishing a campaign to prevent drunk driving. In addition, this research also has valuable theoretical implication because it examines the effect of drunk driving prevention campaign on the attitude toward not only advertisement and the drunk driving prevention but also the behavior intention.

  • This study is to measure the length of the Demilitarized Zone and the Military Demarcation Line(MDL) on the Korean Peninsular. For this purpose, maps of the Armistice Agreement Volume II were used. These maps are nine sheets. In order to extract the MDL shown on the map, coordinates were assigned to the scanned image maps using the georeferencing module of ArcGIS based on the sheet line coordinates. The accuracy of the extracted vectors was checked by overlaying them on the maps of the Armistice Agreement Volume II. And I tried to validate these vectors through comparative analysis with vectors extracted from Kim(2007). Vectors extracted from Kim(2007) had errors in the curvilinear parts of the MDL, but the vectors extracted from this study exactly matched the MDL in the Armistice Agreement Volume II. The measured length is 239.42km(148.77miles). This means that the expression '155mile MDL' or '248km DMZ' in papers, reports or mass media has so far been inappropriate. I think this study will be able to provide information on the exact length of the DMZ in studies related with DMZ or in policy decisions by the national and local government. However, it is deemed necessary to verify this result by national organizations such as the NGII(National Geographic Information Institute). After these verification procedures, I hope that the national government will inform the people of the exact length of DMZ and MDL.

  • The aim of this study was to analyze dieting practices and tendencies in 2016 using big data. The keywords related to diet were collected from the portal site Naver and analyzed through simple frequency, N-gram, keyword network, and analysis of seasonality. The results showed that exercise had the highest frequency in simple frequency analysis. However, diet menu appeared most frequently in N-gram analysis. In addition, analysis of seasonality showed that the interest of subjects in diet increased steadily from February to July and peaked in October 2016. The monthly frequency of the keyword highfat diet was highest in October, because that showed the 'Low Carbohydrate High Fat' TV program. Although diet showed a certain pattern on a yearly basis, the emergence of new trendy diets in mass media also affects the pattern of diet. Therefore, it is considered that continuous monitoring and analysis of diet is needed rather than periodic monitoring.

  • Recently, various multiphase flows have been developed, and among them some models have been commercialized. However, most of them have been developed based on a pressure-based approach; therefore, various numerical difficulties were involved inherently. Accordingly, in order to overcome these numerical difficulties, a multiphase flow model, MultiPhaSe flow (MPS), following a fractional-flow based approach was developed. In this study, by combining a contaminant transport module describing an enhanced dissolution effect of a surfactant with MPS, a MultiPhaSe flow and TranSport (MPSTS) model was developed. The developed model was verified using the analytical solution of Clement. The MPSTS model can simulate the process of surfactant enhanced aquifer remediation including interphase mass transfer and contaminant transport in multiphase flow by using the coupled particle tracking method and Lagrangian-Eulerian method. In this study, a surfactant was used in a non aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) contaminated area, and the effect of hydro-geological heterogeneity in the layered media on remediation efficiency was studied using the developed model. According to the numerical simulation, when hydraulic conductivity in a lower layer is 10 times, 20 times, and 50 times larger than that in an upper layer, the concentration of dissolved diesel in the lower layer is much higher than that in the upper layer because the surfactant moves faster along the lower layer owing to preferential flow; thus, the surfactant enhances dissolution of residual non aqueous phase liquid in the lower layer.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to critically analyze the process of framing child abuse cases through the news coverage after the enforcement of mandatory CCTV installation policy which was initiated in 2015. Methods: The research uses the revised and supplemented frame analysis tools developed by Iyengar (1990) and Semetko and Valkenburg (2000) to investigate 25 broadcasting news reported by KBS, from September 2015 to December 2017. Results: First, according to the formal analysis, the reports on abuse cases prove to be either a mixed or episodic frame which covers the cases heavily based on a particular incident rather than holistically looks into the situation. Second, in content analysis, child abuse news is delivered mainly through "human interest frame." Conclusion/Implications: The study identifies three dominant discourses formed as a result of the child abuse CCTV news: 'CCTV is a all-around player' discourse, 'preschool teachers as potential criminals' discourse and 'preschool teachers as nonprofessionals' discourse. This study is significant in that it presents that mass media do not always say the truth, but frame social issues within an ideological delivery system.

  • This paper aims to investigate ideological preferences of news media outlets by looking at the news coverage of North Korea-Russia summit in April, 2019. The meeting has gained attention in South Korea, China, Japan and America in that the historical meeting will reflect the future direction for denuclearization on the Korean peninsular and the peace in the world. Given this, in particular, a special attention is paid to the editorials and headlines of news articles reported in two Korean quality newspapers, DongA Ilbo and Hankyoreh because both are quality newspapers, but are ideologically different. To achieve objectivity and fairness, the same issues dealt with during the summit were compared and analyzed within Martin and White (2005)'s Appraisal framework. As a result, it was found that in editorials of DongA Ilbo showed a negative stance to the summit by employing the 'attitude' factor, whereas the Hankyoreh was overwhelmingly positive toward the issue, also by employing the 'attitude' factor. The political stance is likely to be in line with those shown in the headlines of news articles from each newspaper. That is, it is clear that each news outlet shows its ideological stances to news consumers through linguistic expressions, in that both editorials and the headlines of news articles express their political preferences to the summit by means of linguistic appraisals.

  • This study was carried out to select the optimal condition for prothallus propagation and sporophyte formation of Leptogramma pozoi (Lag.) Ching subsp. mollissima (Fisch. ex Kunze) Nakaike and to provide basic data for mass production system. In the propagation, 300 mg of prothallus were inoculated in different kinds of medium [1/4, 1/2, Murashige and Skoog (MS), Knop], sucrose (0, 1, 2, 3, 4%), and cultured for 8 weeks. Sporophyte formation studies were carried out by inoculating blended prothallus into artificial soils. The soils were mixed with horticultural substrate, peatmoss, perlite, and decomposed granite at different ratios or only with the horticultural substrate. Then the prothallus was cultivated for 12 weeks to figure out the formation and growth of the sporophytes. The growth and development of prothalli were excellent on MS medium. According to medium components, prothallus growth was favorable in all treatments except 0% sucrose treatment and the highest in 2% sucrose. In the experiment of soil mixtures, sporophyte formation was the highest in the horticultural substrate:perlite 2:1 (v:v) and horticultural substrate:decomposed granite 2:1 (v:v) treatment, and the overall growth was good in the horticultural substrate:decomposed granite 2:1 (v:v) mixed soil.

  • Recently, Southeast Asian people, its food, natural sceneries and so on have been increasingly exposed to Korean people through mass media and multi-cultural events. At the same time, Koreans can frequently encounter Southeast Asians in their everyday lives. Thus, specific images and discourses of Southeast Asia has been established in our society, which creates a new social trend called 'Southeast Asia phenomena'. In short, 'Southeast Asia phenomena' means a totality of Korean people's experience of Southeast Asian and their perception on the region. On the one hand, 'Southeast Asia phenomena' is a result of inflow of Southeast Asians and their culture into Korea. On the other hand, it is also a consequence of Korean people's understanding of Southeast Asia from their trip to Southeast Asia or from their interactions with Southeast Asian people. This article aims to analyze the origin and diffusion of 'Southeast Asian Phenomena' in Korea in the context of Southeast Asia focusing on 4 topics, that is, migrant workers, overseas investments, retirement migration, study-abroad categorized as human movement. This article is also about a country-by-country comparative analysis both at the macro level and the micro level. At the macro level, overseas investments and trade, human exchanges, positive perception to Koreans which considered to be the structural causes become a strong mechanism playing a important bridge role between Korea and Southeast Asia. So these create the high probability of the emergence of 'Southeast Asian Phenomena' At the micro level which is more direct causes of 'Southeast Asian Phenomena', the economic cause is the most important common cause for 4 Southeast Asian Phenomena. Additionally, Korean wave is also remarkable common cause creating 'Southeast Asian Phenomena' even it is not the origin in the context of Southeast Asia. The diffusion of 'Southeast Asian Phenomena' is different by the topics and the elements contributing to create the favorable situation for the diffusion are not only overseas investments and trade, human exchanges at the macro level but also policy elements at the micro level. The relative differences of the causes of 'Southeast Asian Phenomena' in the country-by-country analysis are found. Regarding overseas investments in Vietnam and Cambodia, the economic degree of freedom in Cambodia is higher than in Vietnam. Even Korean Wave has had the longer history in Vietnam, but the favorable perspectives on Korean Wave are stronger in Cambodia. For migrant workers from Vietnam and Indonesia, the economic causes in Vietnam are more significant than in Indonesia. The impact of Korean Wave is stronger in Vietnam than in Indonesia. In case of study-abroad, the social-cultural elements and policy elements are more diverse in Malaysia than in Korea. For the Korean retirees who immigrate to the Philippines and Malaysia, the economic causes in the Philippines is more significant in Malaysia.

  • The information drive of the businesses requires new alternatives in that the promotion of business efficiency through information process technologies ends up conflicting with the protection of information human rights on laborers' side. Nevertheless, apathy on information protection has a tendency to be distorted by the efficiency of the businesses. Should the capital and mass media warn economic red lights, political circles with uneasiness would ignore the significance of information protection on the behalf of business efficiency. Therefore, the importance of information protection is considered a smaller interest than that of business efficiency with the infringements of human rights on laborers' side arising. Informatization of the businesses along with the developments of information process technologies has enabled the management to monitor and control the behaviors of laborers. This new problem needs to establish both information protection mechanism and institutional devices to regulate those labor controls. The security of business activity without human rights infringement warrants both basic rights of the public and spirit of the Constitution. The study suggests the establishment and revision of laws suitable to the period of information human rights. On top of that, the establishment of the basic law for information protection of individuals' with the common principle that integrates the related laws and rules on-off line is needed. This will warrant the active participation of labor unions and create specific alternatives for information protection.
