  • Sandwich composite panel with high strength steel face can reduce the weight of the automotive structural parts. Unlike the parts in aerospace application, the automotive parts are made by the forming process for mass production. The CAE simulation can predict the failures caused by forces and deformation during the forming process. Since the material properties are very important factor for the simulation, we performed the tensile test to get the material properties. The inspections by the optical microscope at each strain level show the states of the polymer resin. The material properties measured by the tensile tests are used for the input data of simulation. The simulation predicts the forming process of the bumper back beam very exactly compared with the try out results.

  • Heteroepitaxial growth remains as one of the continuously growing interests, because the heterogeneous crystallization on different substrates is a common feature in the fabrication processes of many semiconductor materials and devices, such as molecular beam epitaxy, pulsed laser deposition, sputtering, chemical bath deposition, chemical vapor deposition, hydrothermal synthesis, vapor phase transport and so on [1,2]. By using the R.F. sputtering system, ZnO thin films were deposited on graphene 4 and 6 mono layers, which is grown on 400 nm and 600 nm $SiO_2$ substrates, respectively. The ZnO thin layer was deposited at various temperatures by using a ZnO target. In this experimental, the working power and pressure were $3{\times}10^{-3}$ Torr and 50 W, respectively. The base pressure of the chamber was kept at a pressure around $10^{-6}$ Torr by using a turbo molecular pump. The oxygen and argon gas flows were controlled around 5 and 10 sccm by using a mass flow controller system, respectively. The structural properties of the samples were analyzed by XRD measurement. The film surface and carrier concentration were analyzed by an atomic force microscope and Hall measurement system. The surface morphologies were observed using field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM).

  • The characteristic analysis of fly ash generated from a fired power plant using bunker-C oil has been investigated. Ash size distribution by an optical microscopy with image processing technique, morphological shape by a scanning electron microscope(SEM) and microscope, chemical composition by the inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry(ICP), and resistivity measurement as a function of temperature and moisture content by the resistivity meter are performed. A study of physical, chemical and electrical characteristics of bunker-C fly ash plays an important role of improving the performance of an electrostatic precipitator and protecting air pollution. The samples of bunker-C fly ash for analysis were collected from the electrostatic precipitator hopper of Ulsan Power Plant Unit 1 and Pusan Power Plant Unit 1. Mass median diameter(MMD) of bunker-C fly ash was measured 12.7${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, while MMD of fly ash generated from the mixture of bunker-C oil(40%) and domestic anthracitic coal(60%) was 25.7${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The morphological structure of bunker-C fly ash consisted of fine particles of non-spherical shape. The primary chemical components of bunker-C fly ash were composed of SiO2(2.36%), Al2O3(4.91%), Fe2O3(14.33%) and C(11.84%). Resistivity of bunker-C fly ash was found to be increased with increasing temperature at the range of 100~15$0^{\circ}C$ and was measured 103~104 ohm-cm.

  • To develop natural antimicrobial agents for keeping qualities of postharvested greenhouse produce the antimiocrobial actions of Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb. et Zucc. extract , which showed remarkable antimicrobial effects against microorganism causing the postharvest decay of greenhouse produce, were investigate. In the inhibitory experiment of enzymes related to energy production metabolism hexokinase activities decreased to 73% and 68% by treating with Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb. et.Zucc. extract and Eugenia caryophyllata Thumnberg extract in comparison with control, respectively. Direct visualization of microbial cells by using both transmission electron microscope and scanning electron microscope showed that microbial cell membrane was destroyed by treating with the dilute extract solution. this change of celluloar membrane permeability could be identified in the experiment that 0-nitrophenyl-${\beta}$-D-galactopyrano-side(ONPG), the artificial substrate of ${\beta}$-galactosidase, was hydrolyzed in the presence of the extract, indicating that the membrane was perturbed. The separation and identification of the most antimicrobialo substances isolated from Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb et. Zucc. extract and Eugenia caryophyllata Thunberg extract were carried out by using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry 9GC/MSD), which were identified as eugenol. As a result, the functionality of Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb. et Zucc. extract and Eugenia caryophyllata Thunberg extract as antimicrobial agents for keeping qualities of postharvested greenhouse produce may be recommended.

  • Focused electrospray (FES) deposition method is presented for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry. FES ion optics consists of two cylindrical focusing electrodes capped with a truncated conical electrode through which an electrospray emitter passes along the cylindrical axis. A spray of charged droplets is focused onto a sample well on a MALDI target plate under atmospheric pressure. The shape and size distributions of matrix crystals are visualized by scanning electron microscope and the mass spectra are obtained by time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Angiotensin II, bradykinin, and substance P are used as test samples, while $\alpha$-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic acid and dihydroxybenzoic acid are employed as matrices. FES of a sample/matrix mixture produces fine crystal grains on a 1-3 mm spot and reproducibly yields the mass spectra with little shot-to-shot and spot-to-spot variations. Although FES greatly stabilizes the signals, the space charge due to matrix ions limits the detection sensitivity of peptides. To avoid the space charge problem, we adopted a dual FES/FES mode, which separately deposits matrix and sample by FES in sequence. The dual FES/FES mode reaches the detection sensitivity of 0.88 amol, enabling ultrasensitive of peptides by homogeneously depositing matrix and sample under atmospheric pressure.

  • It is investigated that the surface properties of mercaptopyruvic-acid layer formed on gold surfaces may make an effect on the distribution of either gold particle adsorbed to the zirconia surface or vice versa. For the investigation, the atomic force microscope was used to measure the surface forces between the surfaces as a function of the salt concentration and pH value. The forces were quantitatively analyzed with the derjaguin-landau-verwey-overbeek (DLVO) theory to estimate the electrostatic properties, potential and charge density, of the surfaces for each condition of salt concentration and pH value. The estimatedvalue dependence on the salt concentration was explained with the law of mass action, and the pH dependence was interpreted with the ionizable groups on the surface. The salt concentration dependence of the surface properties, found from the measurement at pH 4 and 8, was predictable from the law. It was found that the mercaptopyruvic-acid layer had higher values for the surface charge densities and potentials than the zirconia surfaces at pH 4 and 8, which may be attributed to the ionizedfunctional-groups of the mercaptopyruvic-acid layer.

  • The roughness changes on a fracture surface were analyzed via a multi-stage compression test under high temperatures to assess how the cracks in a rock mass affect groundwater movement. The analyzed samples consist of coarse granitic rocks from approximately 40 and 270 m depth, and fine granitic rocks from 500 m depth. The compression test was conducted on $20{\times}40{\times}5mm$ samples using a loading system where the pressure increases in 10 MPa increments to 120 MPa. A high-resolution 3D confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) was used to observe the surface changes, including the roughness changes, at each pressure step. The roughness change was calculated based on the roughness factor. The experimental results indicate that the roughness of the fracture surface varies with rock type under the stepwise pressure conditions. These data provide a basis for predicting groundwater flow along rock fractures.

  • In this study, MCQ (Micronized copper Quat) which was copper-based wood preservative, was investigated on decay properties by difference of the its infiltration volume. After pressure-treatment with different MCQ concentration, test specimens (Japanese Red Pine) were exposed by a brown-rot fungus (Fomitopsis palustris). At the end of the 12 weeks exposure to the fungus, untreated specimen was showed the mass loss of more than 35%, and the value of preservative effectiveness of MCQ by indoor decay was $3.99{\pm}0.42kg/m^3$. Therefore, MCQ should be pressure-injected at least $3.99kg/m^3$. The three dimensional of the specimens were observed by using the light microscope and scanning electron microscope, Untreated and treatment specimens with low concentration generally had underwent serious decays and had a lot of fungal hyphae. Howere, the formation of bore hole by hyphae were not observed. Mass loss and decay properties of specimens were affected by amount of MCQ injection. Therefore, it is necessary to the review of the adequacy of the MCQ injection amount in domestic environments.

  • The Pancreatic islet are the clusters of endocrine cells scattered through out the exocrine pancreas. Transplantation of a sufficient pancreatic islets can normalize blood glucose level so that may prevent devastating complications of type I diabetes(IDDM) and other side effects of the IDDM. Recently, there are several approaches to transplant sufficient pancreatic islet, and it was comprised in increase or regeneration of the endogenous $\beta$-cell mass from donor's pancreas, but relatively few studies have been devoted to the morphological characters of the isolated and 3 day cultured pancreatic islets. We investigated morphological pattern of intracellular structure of isolated and 3 day cultured pancreatic islets. The morphological characters of the pancreatic islets were observed by scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope, and insulin distribution of the each islets were observed by transmission electron microscope, and were labeled with insulin antibody. Intracellular structures including nuclei, mitochondria, RER, Golgi complex and many secretory granules were normally appeared in the isolated pancreatic islets which was extracted immediately dornor's pancreas, however, There is a significant morphological changes between the 3 day cultured pancreatic islets and isolated islets. 3 day cultured pancreatic islet's $\beta$-cells had normal nuclei but increased cytoplasm mass and RER and developed Golgi complex. Insulin secretory granules were decreased in numbers rather than isolated pancreatic islet. In this study, the pattern of intracellular structure variation was examined during pancreatic islet culture. Most distinct features are variation of the insulin secretory granules, and developed RER, and dilated golgi complex. Therefore, we suggested that the various change of the morphological characters on cultured pancreatic islets were responsible for the function(biosynthesis and secretion of insulin) and growth. These results were also cultured islets have greater ability to recover and maintain normoglycemia than isolated islet transplantation.

  • In this study, Copper Azole (CuAz), a domestically available wood preservative for pressure treatment, was employed to perform an experimental research on its infiltration and decay properties in Japanese Red Pine. Test specimens were pressure-injected with CuAz-2 preservative to measure its preservative effectiveness, and then its impact on weight and mass losses. Furthermore, wood specimens were treated with CuAz-2 preservatives of various concentration levels before they were decayed with brown-rot-fungi in order to observe decay properties on light microscope (LM) and field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). As a result, untreated specimen by Fomitopsis palustris showed the mass loss of more than 40%, and the value of preservative effectiveness of CuAz-2 by indoor decay was $1,73-3.32kg/m^3$. The concentration levels of CuAz-2 preservative were shown to cause significant variations in terms of decay progresses in the cross section, radial section, and tangential section. By contrast, untreated specimens had underwent serious decays in early wood, late wood, longitudinal resin canals, and ray, which led to vertical destruction of wood texture. As for the radial section, ray tracheid, ray parenchyma cell, and window like pits were decayed and destroyed. In the case of tangential section, uniseriate rays and vertical resin canals were seriously decayed. In conclusion, this study indicates that the adequacy of the current CuAz injection amount should be reviewed in the domestic environment because there are significantly different decays at different decay conditions.
