This study predicts the sensitivity coefficient by the change of dynamic Characteristics of the Structure. The method is applied to examples of a cantilever and 3 degree of freedom lumped mass model by modifying the mass and stiffness. The predicted the sensitivity coefficient are in good agreement with these from the structural reanalysis using the modified mass and stiffness.
This study was performed fir the purpose of finding the relationship between fat-free mass (FFM) which mainly represents muscle mass change, and muscle strength. The correlation between diet and exercise behaviors and FFM in healthy elderly men over age 55 was also investigated. FFM and corresponding hand grip strength declined significantly with increasing age. However the concentration of serum albumin, the indicator of protein nutritional status, showed no change with increases in age. The subjects were categorized into three groups according to FFM textiles. Anthropometry such as height, BMI, circumferences of waist and hips, body fat mass percent and hand grip strength decreased significantly in the lowest FFM group. But albumin level showed no change relative to FFM level. FFM showed a significant relationship to nutrient intake such as energy and fat. However, no association was found with exercise behavior probably because there were no instances of resistance exercise habits among the subjects studied. The variance in FFM could be attributed 86.2% to height and age. The variance of height-adjusted FFM could be attributed only 40.6% to age and fat intake. In conclusion decreases in FFM may cause reductions in muscle strength in elderly men. Increasing energy and fat intake were associated with increased FFM and may protect elderly men from the risk of sarcopenia. FFM had no association with endurance exercise habits.
This study was performed to show change of fat-free mass(FFM), representing mostly the muscle mass change, and muscle strength with increasing age, and relationship between dietary, exercise behaviors and FFM in healthy middle-and old aged women who are of age over 55 years. The FFM and correspondingly hand grip strength showed significant positive correlation with age. But concentration of serum albumin showed no significant relationship with age. The subjects were categorized into groups according to FFM tertile. The anthropometry such as weight, BMI, fat mass, circumferences of waist and hip, WHR, and hand grip strength decreased significantly in the lowest FFM group. But the albumin level showed no change according to FFM level. The FFM showed significant correlation with nutrient intakes such as energy, carbohydrate, protein, Fe, P, Ca. No association, however, was shown with exercise behavior probably because of no case with resistance exercise habits. The variance of FFM was explained 55.2% by height and carbohydrate intake. The variance of height-adjusted FFM could be explained only 16.2% by intake amount of carbohydrate. In conclusion, the decrease of FFM may cause to reduce muscle strength in female elderly. The increasing nutrient intakes were associated with the increased FFM and may protect from risk of sarcopenia. However, only the carbohydrate intake could influence independently the FFM in middle- and old-aged women. The FFM has no association with endurance exercise habits. Numerical analyses have been performed to obtain the absorption heat and mass transfer coefficients and the absorption mass flux from a falling film of LiBr solution. In the present study, the behavior of laminar-wavy falling film in the vertical absorber was studied analytically and experimentally. The change of absorption performance on mean film thickness, wave amplitude, wave celerity was analysed. The heat and mass transfer equations are solved simultaneously to give the temperature and concentration variations at the LiBr solution/refrigeration vapor interface and at the wall. Effects of uniform film, wavy film and film Reynolds number on the heat and mass transfer coefficients have been estimated. The analytical results of the uniform and wavy falling film in the bare tube was higher than experimental result for $Rd_{t}<100$. The absorption performance showed the maximum at the wavy film by the insert device(spring).
This paper predicts the modified mass and stiffness of structure using the sensitivity coefficients with the iterative method. The sensitivity coefficients are obtained by the change of the eigenvectors according to structural modification. The method is applied to an examples of a 3 degree of freedom system by modifying mass and stiffness. The predicted mass and stiffness are in good agreement with these from the structural reanalysis using the modified mass and stiffness.
This study demonstrated the sensitivity of electron capture dissociation mass spectrometry (ECD-MS) to probe subtle conformational changes in gaseous melittin ions induced by the substitution of an amino acid. ECD-MS was performed for triply and quadruply-protonated melittin and its variants obtained by a single amino acid substitution, namely, D-Pro14, Pro14Ala, and Leu13Ala. Although native triply-protonted melittin showed only a few peptide backbone cleavage products, the D-Pro14 and Pro14Ala variants exhibited extensive backbone fragments, suggesting the occurrence of a significant structural or conformational change induced by a single amino acid substitution at Pro14. On the contrary, the substitution at Leu13, namely Leu13Ala (+3), did not cause significant changes in the ECD backbone fragmentation pattern. Thus, the sensitivity of ECD-MS is demonstrated to be good enough to probe the aforementioned conformational change in melittin.
The bone is composed of the bone matrix of collagen and hydroxyapatite, the mixture of calcium and phosphours. The bone tissue is considered to the special connective tissue that possesses extracellular matrix made by collagen fiber deposited with mineral complex. In order to maintain bone mass measured by the sum of bone matrix and hydroxyapatite, bone resorption by osteoclast during lifetime and bone remodeling to form bone by osteoblast in its resorption region repeat continuously. The osteoblast has a mesodermic fetal origin like fibroblast for the formation of form tissues. Two cells express identical genes and synthesize the identical collagen type I as the major component of the formation of bone matrix and skin. Therefore, it is considered that the decrease of skinfold thickness and the decrease of bone mass related to the age, the change of two tissues composed of collagen type I is caused by the same genetic mechanism. The decrease of bone mass is caused by the change of the amount and structure of bone matrix by several factors and the amount of minerals deposited on bone matrix. Especially, in case of female, the deficiency of estrogen by menopause makes these changes rapidly increased. The decrease of bone mass and skinfold thickness is due to the decrease of the amount of collagen and its structural change the common component of bone tissue and skin tissue. Therefore, the relationship of the amount of cross-linked peptide N-telopeptide, collagen metabolite which excretes as urine. Based upon the proved results about the significant relationship of bone mass, the amount of bone collagen, the amount of skin collagen and skinfold thickness, the bone mass may be expected through a facile determination of skinfold thickness.
In this study, porous concrete with improved functionality was developed by using superabsorbent polymer (SAP) to provide rooting space for plants. The depth of settlement and mass change according to the substitution and addition rate of SAP were determined by investigating the functional performance of SAP and the volume change upon saturation. Test results indicated the depth of penetration settlement increased as the substitution rate of SAP increased, but the mass change could not be confirmed as the addition rate of SAP increased. The instability of the specimens due to the excessive volume change of SAP, as well as the osmotic pressure phenomenon according to the pH concentration, were identified as the cause. Therefore, future studies are needed to investigate the appropriate substitution and addition rate of SAP, as well as to reduce the osmotic pressure phenomenon according to the pH concentration, which would contribute to the improvement of the functional performance of vegetation concrete.
Atmospheric aerosols have become a major environmental concern because of their adverse effects on human health, air quality, and climate change. Over the last few decades, several mass spectrometry (MS)-based techniques have been developed and applied in the field of atmospheric aerosol research. Particularly, real-time measurement of ambient aerosols using an aerosol mass spectrometer (AMS) has become one of the most powerful tools for aerosol chemistry. This review provides a brief description of AMS and its applications for understanding the physicochemical properties of atmospheric aerosols, as well as its sources and evolution processes.
