Terrain surveying for gully in Svalbard using UAV and comparison with Mars (UAV를 이용한 스발바르 걸리 지형의 측량과 화성 걸리와의 비교)

  • 북극 스발바르의 사면 지형에는 걸리가 발달되어 있다. 이러한 걸리는, 그 성인에는 여러 의견이 있으나, 화성에도 중고위도를 중심으로 다수 분포한다. 화성의 걸리는 2000년대에 들어 비로소 본격적으로 규명되고 있으나, 지형적 특성으로 인한 탐사의 한계로 지구에 분포하는 유사지형을 통한 비교 연구가 일반적이다(Costard, et al. 2007 등). 이 연구에서는 스발바르의 주도 롱이어비엔에서 UAV을 이용하여 획득한 DEM으로 스발바르 걸리를 측량하고, 이를 화성 중위도의 테라 사이메리아, 테라 시레넘, 노아 키스 테라에 분포하는 걸리와 비교하였다. Longyearbreen 빙하 전방에 위치한 사면을 UAV로 촬영하고, 이를 SfM-MVS(Structure from Motion & MultiView Stereo) 기법으로 3차원 점군 모델과 고해상도 DEM을 제작하여 분석하였다. 화성의 경우 MRO궤도 탐사선이 촬영한 HiRise DTM을 이용하여 분석하였다. 두 걸리는 기후와 지질 조건에 차이가 있음에도 불구하고 유사한 패턴을 보였다. 특히 테라 사이메리아에 위치한 걸리와 롱이어비엔 북사면의 걸리는 기준거리, 단면적, 폭, 경사, 제방 두께 등에서 상당한 정량적 유사관계가 있었다. 이는 두 행성의 걸리가 유사한 성인 및 형성 프로세스를 거쳤을 가능성을 시사한다. 측량 기법과 UAV 의 안정성을 개선시키면 지형 모델의 품질 향상 및 극지에서의 UAV 운용이 용이해질 것으로 기대된다. 또한 스발바르의 기후 요소 및 물리량 적용은 향후 화성 지형연구에도 응용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

Design of Mobility System for Ground Model of Planetary Exploration Rover

  • In recent years, a number of missions have been planned and conducted worldwide on the planets such as Mars, which involves the unmanned robotic exploration with the use of rover. The rover is an important system for unmanned planetary exploration, performing the locomotion and sample collection and analysis at the exploration target of the planetary surface designated by the operator. This study investigates the development of mobility system for the rover ground model necessary to the planetary surface exploration for the benefit of future planetary exploration mission in Korea. First, the requirements for the rover mobility system are summarized and a new mechanism is proposed for a stable performance on rough terrain which consists of the passive suspension system with 8 wheeled double 4-bar linkage (DFBL), followed by the performance evaluation for the mechanism of the mobility system based on the shape design and simulation. The proposed mobility system DFBL was compared with the Rocker-Bogie suspension system of US space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration and 8 wheeled mobility system CRAB8 developed in Switzerland, using the simulation to demonstrate the superiority with respect to the stability of locomotion. On the basis of the simulation results, a general system configuration was proposed and designed for the rover manufacture.

  • The USA has declared the cyber space as the 5th battlefield following land, sea, air, and space. In contrast to physical wars, in national cyberwarfare differentiation between friend and foe is impossible, and the boundaries between the lines of attack and defense are obscure. Therefore, to perform national cyberwarfare, credibility of all command delivery information performed in the cyber space should be confirmed. In this paper, the authors have determined the commands performed in national cyberwarfare, granted authorized IPv6 in space including the earth, moon and Mars for information credibility, and used LINK joints loaded with stealth functions to secure the credibility of command information.

  • This paper describes a summary of final prediction results by system-scale safety analysis codes during the OECD/NEA/CSNI ISP-50 exercise, targeting a 50% Direct Vessel Injection (DVI) line break integral effect test performed with the Advanced Thermal-Hydraulic Test Loop for Accident Simulation (ATLAS). This ISP-50 exercise has been performed in two consecutive phases: "blind" and "open" phases. Quantitative comparisons were performed using the Fast Fourier Transform Based Method (FFTBM) to compare the overall accuracy of the collected calculations. Great user effects resulting from the combination of the possible reasons were found in the blind phase, confirming that user effect is still one of the major issues in connection with the system thermal-hydraulic code application. Open calculations showed better prediction accuracy than the blind calculations in terms of average amplitude (AA) value. A total of nineteen organizations from eleven countries participated in this ISP-50 program and eight leading thermal-hydraulic system analysis codes were used: APROS, ATHLET, CATHARE, KORSAR, MARS-KS, RELAP5/MOD3.3, TECH-M-97, and TRACE.

ANALYSIS OF UNCERTAINTY QUANTIFICATION METHOD BY COMPARING MONTE-CARLO METHOD AND WILKS' FORMULA

  • An analysis of the uncertainty quantification related to LBLOCA using the Monte-Carlo calculation has been performed and compared with the tolerance level determined by the Wilks' formula. The uncertainty range and distribution of each input parameter associated with the LOCA phenomena were determined based on previous PIRT results and documentation during the BEMUSE project. Calulations were conducted on 3,500 cases within a 2-week CPU time on a 14-PC cluster system. The Monte-Carlo exercise shows that the 95% upper limit PCT value can be obtained well, with a 95% confidence level using the Wilks' formula, although we have to endure a 5% risk of PCT under-prediction. The results also show that the statistical fluctuation of the limit value using Wilks' first-order is as large as the uncertainty value itself. It is therefore desirable to increase the order of the Wilks' formula to be higher than the second-order to estimate the reliable safety margin of the design features. It is also shown that, with its ever increasing computational capability, the Monte-Carlo method is accessible for a nuclear power plant safety analysis within a realistic time frame.

Identification of risk factors associated with the incidence of canine distemper in Korea (우리나라 개 디스템퍼 발생 관련 위험요인의 구명)

  • To identify risk factors of canine distemper, which is one of the most important disease of dogs in Korea, a case-control study was performed with 2,507 cases and 4,121 controls from 630 veterinary clinics throughout Korea. In multivariate logistic regression models, the sampling period (Mars and April) and the age of the dogs (7-12 months old) were associated with an increased risk of canine distemper. Sex, body size and residential region showed no significant relationship. The epidemiological evidences of canine distemper in Korea agree to the risk factors observed in foreign countries.

  • In the ad-hoc wireless network environment, that the fixed sensor nodes and the sensor nodes to move are mixed, as the number of the sensor nodes with mobility are getting more, the costs to recover and maintain the whole network will increase more and more. This paper proposed the CDSR (Cost based Dynamic Source Routing) algorithm being motivated from the typical DSR algorithm, that is one of the reactive routing protocol. The cost function is defined through measuring the cost which any sensor node pays to participate in the whole network for communication. It is also showed in this paper that the proposed routing algorithm will increase the efficiency and life of whole sensor network through a series of experiments.

  • A station blackout experiment called SBO-01 was performed at the ATLAS facility. From the SBO-01 test, the station blackout scenario can be characterized into two typical phases: A first phase characterized by decay heat removal through secondary safety valves until the SG dryouts, and a second phase characterized by an energy release through a blowdown of the primary system after the SG dryouts. During the second phase, some physical phenomena of the change over a pressurizer function, i.e., the pressurizer being full before the POSRV $1^{st}$ opening and then its function being taken by the RV, and the termination of normal natural circulation flow were identified. Finally, a core heatup occurred at a low core water level, although under a significant amount of PZR inventory, whose drainage seemed to be hindered owing to the pressurizer function by the RV. The transient of SBO-01 is well reproduced in the calculation using the MARS code.

The Nature of the Fracture Patterns Observed at Mawrth Vallis, Mars (화성 Mawrth Vallis 지역에서 관찰되는 파쇄 패턴의 성질)

  • Fracture patterns observed in the phyllosilicate-bearing layers of the Mawrth Vallis region are analyzed using High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment image data in order to understand the causes of polygonal fracturing. HiRISE data show that the different mineralogies have distinct surface textures and morphologies. The majority of the nontronite-bearing rocks typically appear to have been heavily eroded and are fractured into irregular shaped blocks with variable size, whereas most of the montmorillonite-bearing rocks have polygons which are relatively consistent in size and shape. The majority of the fracture patterns observed in the nontronite-bearing outcrops are interpreted to be a result of unloading stresses. While the polygonal fractures developed in the montmorillonite-bearing layers appear to be a product of desiccation.

Effect of emergency core cooling system flow reduction on channel temperature during recirculation phase of large break loss-of-coolant accident at Wolsong unit 1

  • The feasibility of cooling in a pressurized heavy water reactor after a large break loss-of-coolant accident has been analyzed using Multidimensional Analysis of Reactor Safety-KINS Standard code during the recirculation phase. Through evaluation of sensitivity of the fuel channel temperature to various effective recirculation flow areas, it is determined that proper cooling of the fuel channels in the broken loop is feasible if the effective flow area remains above approximately 70% of the nominal flow area. When the flow area is reduced by more than approximately 25% of the nominal value, however, incipience of boiling is expected, after which the thermal integrity of the fuel channel can be threatened. In addition, if a dramatic reduction of the recirculation flow occurs, excursions and frequent fluctuations of temperature in the fuel channels are likely to be unavoidable, and thus damage to the fuel channels would be anticipated. To resolve this, emergency coolant supply through the newly installed external injection path can be used as one alternative means of cooling, enabling fuel channel integrity to be maintained and permanently preventing severe accident conditions. Thus, the external injection flow required to guarantee fuel channel coolability has been estimated.
