  • This paper proposes the design and performance evaluation of a marine engine fault detection system using a proximity sensor for marine engine. Non-linearity is greatly reduced by using the sensor without increasing the response time by applying the CANopen protocol. The CANopen protocol enables the sensor to send initial values and measurement data. The marine engine fault detection system measures crankshaft deflection and the bottom dead center of the crosshead in real-time, which maintains stability and prevents the serious breakdown of the marine engine by use of an interlocking alarm monitoring system.

  • For the safety of vessels sailing Marine Transport Facility announces sea route, reefs or shallow water. Photovoltaic, independent power system, installation in the general Marine Transport Facilities to be used in the marine lantern. Due to install of communications, controls, power consumption inceases. And the weather of cloudy day or rainy, generation of electricity is decrease. Recently, power system of marine facility using a hybrid generation system, photovoltaic generation system and wave power generation system. But increase of adhered shellfish inside the water column, is the cause of the reduction of efficiency. So study was conducted to Single channel AFS(Anti-Fouling system). In this paper we offer the Multi channel AFS for Marine Transport Facility and have simulated. Improve the accuracy of the research, we using the result of anode, in the experiment were actually in the buoy, is based on simulation. The experimental results is shown every anode's, in the Marine Transport Facility, ionization was conducted identically.

  • There exists dead zone from the aspects of health equity and health medical equity for maritime personnel. They could not have been benefited from disease prevention and health promotion in comparison with shore personnel due to the restricted medical accessibility caused by long voyage ship operation. Furthermore, the system of health management and medical assistance for maritime personnel is insufficient, the continuous health monitoring system does not exist, nor health diagnosis system, maritime industrial accidents and occupational disease control systems are adequate. The International Maritime Organization and the International Labour Organization recommend their Member Governments to take necessary measures in the management of seafarers' health and diseases through conducting continuous and systematic investigation. Thus, this study intends to propose action strategy and tasks for introducing marine telemedicine system aiming to provide seafarers with health management service for the years to come. The conclusions of this study can be given as follows. First, it is required that a systematic medical service system needs to be provided to promote seafarers' health. Second it is recommended to establish the marine telemedicine system incorporating U-Health technology. Third, it is necessary to revise the relevant laws and regulations to introduce the marine telemedicine system. Fourth, it is also necessary to provide various assistance system at the national level in the furtherance of global marketing of marine telemedicine system.

  • Marine traffics near Ulsan approaching waters are crossing and converged at the diverging point of No.1 route- No.2 route and No.1 route -No.3 route and are also concentrated at near No1. route approaching area and the headland of cape Gawnjeol. Because the number of berth will increase to 78 from 49 until 2011 due to additional developments, minor modification is expected for the water utilities. This study examined environmental conditions, marine accidental data, marine traffic capacity, traffic flow survery and fisheries zone status near Ulsan approaching water area. Finally, a questionaire survey was carried ou for experts and users to propose new plan.

  • The aim of this paper is to design an adaptive speed control system of a marine diesel engine by fusion of hard computing based proportional integral derivative (PID) control and soft computing based fuzzy control methods. The model of a marine diesel engine is considered as a typical non oscillatory second order system. When its model and the actual marine diesel engine ate not matched, it is hard to control the speed of the marine diesel engine. Therefore, this paper proposes two methods in order to obtain the speed control characteristics of a marine diesel engine. One is an efficient method to determine the PID control parameters of the nominal model of a marine diesel engine. Second is a reference adaptive speed control method that uses a fuzzy controller and derivative operator for tracking the nominal model of the marine diesel engine. It was found that the proposed PID parameters adjustment method is better than the Ziegler & Nichols' method, and that a model reference adaptive control is superior to using only PID controller. The improved control method proposed here, could be applied to other systems when a model of a system does not match the actual system.

  • Marine Structures are very costly and need a continuous inspection and maintenance routine. The most effective way to control the structural health is the application of an expert system that can evaluate the importance of any distress on the structure and provide a maintenance program. An extensive literature review, interviews with expert supervisors and a national survey are used to build a decision support system for concrete structures in sea environment. Decision trees are the main rules in this system. The system input is inspection information and the system output is the main cause(s) of distress(es) and the best repair method(s). Economic condition, severity of distress, distress situation, and new technologies and the most repeated classical methods are considered to choose the best repair method. A case study demonstrates the application of the developed decision support system for a type of marine structure.

  • The release of polluting gases such as NO/sub x/ of SO/sub x/ to the atmosphere from ships is causing increasing concern. To reduce destruction to the marine environment, the value of the utilization of photovoltaic energy is highly appreciated since photovoltaic energy is and alternate clean energy source to fossil fuels. The use of a photovoltaic generating system to supplement diesel engine driven electric power system on ships has been studied. The design of the photovoltaic generating system based on a photovoltaic array is presented in this paper. The amount of NO/sub x/ and SO/sub x/ emission is found to be significantly reduced for a small vessel operated within a harbour after a photovoltaic generating system is installed to supplement the diesel engine generator system.
