In this paper, the precast method of a concrete eco-pillar debris barrier was proposed to improve the construct ability and economic efficiency. The performance was validated by experimental and structural analysis. The steel debris barrier has a high construction cost and causes environmental damage with corrosion. The construction of a concrete eco-pillar debris barrier has been increased recently. On the other hand, there are no design standards regarding debris barriers in Korea, and debris barriers are being designed by the experience and sense of engineers. Therefore, in this study, a method to determine the design external forces was proposed and the design was performed by applying a hollow cross-section to the debris barrier. In addition, three types of connection methods of a concrete cantilever column with the maximum bending moment acts were proposed, and validation of the performance of each type was performed with a real-scale experiment. The experimental results showed that the type with loop reinforcement had the highest rigidity and the type with anchorage performance exceeded the maximum bending moment according to the ultimate load. In the manufacturing procedure of mock-up debris barriers, the type with an anchorage-bar was found to have superior construct ability.

The interest in renewable energy is increasing due to the depletion of fossil fuels. In particular, active research on wave power, which is highly predictable and abundant, is being conducted. The coaxial accelerator-type wave power generator used in this study was designed to improve the power generation efficiency by converting bidirectional linear motion into a rotational force. In an offshore engineering basin, waves were generated, and case tests were performed according to the wave period and wave height. The experimental results were verified by the theoretical method related to the frequency response, and the overall trend was confirmed to be consistent. These results are expected to be useful in estimating the power of wave generators and designing parameters to improve the efficiency of wave energy in the design stage before manufacturing. In addition, the manufacturer can predict the wave energy efficiency of wave generators, which can reduce the development time and cost by preventing trial and error processes.
This paper shows that when the exchange rate changes, there are conflicting effects on improving the quality and increasing market share of eco-friendly vehicles. In a vertically differentiated duopoly model consisting of high quality clean cars and low quality internal combustion engine cars, I set up a two-stage noncooperative game under perfect information that the quality levels and the prices of the cars are competitively determined. The vehicles are assumed to be produced in countries that use distinct currencies. When the exchange rate of the country that produces low quality cars rises, the producer prefers to intensify competition due to the relatively lowed cost, and the incentive for quality improvement arises from the intension of attempting to reduce the degree of differentiation of quality level. At this time, the clean car manufacturing firm tries to avoid competition due to weakened competitiveness, and increases the quality level to expand quality differentiation. However, in this case, the market share of eco-friendly vehicles shrinks. On the other hand, if the exchange rate changes in the opposite direction, the market share of eco-friendly vehicles is expected to increase, but the quality of both cars are deteriorated, causing a conflict effect.

The opening angle of the duct cap assembly during the operation of a refrigerator ice dispenser was evaluated by transient structural analysis, and an improved design to maximize the opening angle was obtained. The opening angle of the existing design was found to be 78% of the upper limit. Several design modifications were proposed and analyzed to examine the effects of the design factors on the opening angle. As a result of the design modifications, the opening angle was improved by changing the lever material to a material with a high elastic modulus, moving the position of the support to the motor side, or increasing the lever shaft diameter. Considering the manufacturing cost of the new design, the design modification changing only the lever material was found to be the best because it does not require a change in the structure of the ice dispenser case. In conclusion, the opening angle can be improved by up to 95% of the upper limit value if the lever material is changed to an aluminum alloy. The methods and results presented in this study were found to be of great help in designing the duct cap assembly structure to facilitate the discharge of ice.

This paper describes the conceptual design of a customized gripper for the assembly process of IT products, which has a relatively short and regular product replacement cycle. The grippers that are used in the manufacturing field are mostly composed of one to two degrees of freedom and they can only handle one object, not multiple ones. Cost is also an important factor. If it were possible to develop a gripper suitable for the assembly process quickly and easily, some of the difficulties involved in its automation caused by the frequent changes of product and process could be solved. The assembly process utilized for this research is defined and described as the procedure and method of the process analysis due to the confidentiality of the manufacturer. We used an axiomatic design to derive the functional requirements and design parameters of the gripper used for the tablet PC assembly process. We proposed a design method for the conceptual design of the gripper by determining these parameters. For the feasibility study, a specific process was selected and the progress of the gripper design was described as an example. Although there have been studies on the design guidelines for grippers, their considerations are too general and their degree of freedom is too high. This paper defines the function of the gripper based on the assembly process of the IT products, which allows their production to be streamlined and automated. In this research, we attempted to produce a design that reflects the assembly process, not just one that enables objects to be held.
The paper addresses contribution to the modeling and optimization of major machinability parameters (cutting force, surface roughness, and tool wear) in finish dry hard turning (FDHT) for machinability evaluation of hardened AISI grade die steel D3 with PVD-TiN coated (Al2O3-TiCN) mixed ceramic tool insert. The turning trials are performed based on Taguchi's L18 orthogonal array design of experiments for the development of regression model as well as adequate model prediction by considering tool approach angle, nose radius, cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut as major machining parameters. The models or correlations are developed by employing multiple regression analysis (MRA). In addition, statistical technique (response surface methodology) followed by computational approaches (genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization) have been employed for multiple response optimization. Thereafter, the effectiveness of proposed three (RSM, GA, PSO) optimization techniques are evaluated by confirmation test and subsequently the best optimization results have been used for estimation of energy consumption which includes savings of carbon footprint towards green machining and for tool life estimation followed by cost analysis to justify the economic feasibility of PVD-TiN coated Al2O3+TiCN mixed ceramic tool in FDHT operation. Finally, estimation of energy savings, economic analysis, and sustainability assessment are performed by employing carbon footprint analysis, Gilbert approach, and Pugh matrix, respectively. Novelty aspects, the present work: (i) contributes to practical industrial application of finish hard turning for the shaft and die makers to select the optimum cutting conditions in a range of hardness of 45-60 HRC, (ii) demonstrates the replacement of expensive, time-consuming conventional cylindrical grinding process and proposes the alternative of costlier CBN tool by utilizing ceramic tool in hard turning processes considering technological, economical and ecological aspects, which are helpful and efficient from industrial point of view, (iii) provides environment friendliness, cleaner production for machining of hardened steels, (iv) helps to improve the desirable machinability characteristics, and (v) serves as a knowledge for the development of a common language for sustainable manufacturing in both research field and industrial practice.
Purpose - Since the local liquor industry uses the agricultural products produced in the region as the main raw material, cultivation of the industry can be a way to expand the demand for domestic agricultural products and can contribute to the income increase of the farmers. In addition, the local liquor industry can be developed into a region-specific industry differentiated from other regions by linking with the region's tourism resources. Therefore, in order to achieve various derivative effects through promotion of the local liquor industry, it is necessary to precisely understand the factors related to the purchase and consumption of local liquor which then will lead to an increase in consumption. This study analyzes the current status and problems of local liquor industries and examines the determinants of consumers' purchasing decisions of regional specialties through questionnaires. We will then propose a strategy to promote consumption of locally produced alcoholic beverages. Research design, data, and methodology - An online Domestic Consumer Survey was conducted to identify the actual purchases and uses of local liquors for 500 consumers nationwide. Based on the questionnaire results, the analysis uses an ordered probit model. Results - As a result of analyzing the effect of consumer characteristics on the purchase of local liquors, it was found that the average cost of drinking, income, local specialty, brewery experience, and health concerns have a significant effect on gender, drinking frequency. All the variables except the participation in the training of the special provincial manufacturing method were found to be statistically significant. The statistical significance was at a 1% significance level for the remaining factors excluding the bottle design. This shows that the higher taste, quality, price, and harmony with food, the higher the probability of purchasing local liquors. Conclusions - In the analysis of factors influencing the purchase intention of local liquors, it was found that factors such as taste, quality, price, and harmony with food had a significant effect. Given the diversity of purchasing factors, the importance of diversification strategies is emphasized again. In particular, it will be important to secure wide publicity for local liquors through various PR strategies.
Purpose : To propose various types of clinical research which is feasible for botanical new drug (IND) development processes, and suggest essential steps to development of study protocol for IND. Methods : Literature-based discussions and one research group's experience is given regarding domestic act, regulation, and system. Results : In order to get an approval of IND for botanical drug in Korea there are several types of clinical research to conduct. In quality control steps for standardized medicinal herbs, case reports or case series can be conducted, and for good manufacturing practice(GMP) steps, we can conduct case reports, case series, and retrospective cohort studies. In addition, as long as we gathered good laboratory practice(GLP) data we can conduct up to quasi-experimental studies and clinical trials including investigator initiated trials. In order to conduct these studies development of study protocol is essential. First, we obtain historical evidence including target disease and indication, efficacy, safety, and endpoints by reviewing medical classics. Second, we obtain clinically and statistically important data by conducting non-clinical studies, observation studies, and quasi-experimental studies. Third, we generate research hypotheses and purposes and explore methodologies, endpoints, clinical practice guidelines, cost-effectiveness, and commercial potential. Finally, we develop study protocol with aid of biostatistician or expert in contract research organization. Discussions and conclusions : This study have obvious limitations in that most thoughts, suggestions, and proposes are from one research group's experience. Therefore, we hope to see various types of research in this topic and process from other research group as well.

Touch Screen Panel (TSP) is a widely used personal handheld device and as a large display apparatus. This study examines micro bump fabrication technology for TSP test process. In the testing process, as TSP is changed, should make a new micro bump for probing and modify the testing program. In this paper we use a maskless lithography system to confirm the potential to fabricatemicro bump to reducecost and manufacturing time. The requiredmaskless lithography system does not use a mask so it can reduce the cost of fabrication and it flexible to cope with changes of micro bump probing. We conducted electro field simulation by pitches of micro bump and designed the lithography pattern image for the maskless lithography process. Then we conducted Photo Resist (PR) patterning process and electro-plating process that are involved in MEMS technology to fabricate micro bump.
Although the use of CAD and CAM technologies has been broadly adopted by architecture-engineering- construction-facility management (AEC/FM) industry as the means of producing complex forms, there are still remained issues such as reducing cost, and enhancing quality and manufacturability. In this paper, to resolve given issues, we suggest a process of rationalization in digital architecture design and fabrication as an integrated approach. The rationalization, which is usually used as the term related with the skin panel of free-form architecture, is a process of re-designing a digital model to meet the requirements of manufacturing considering the gap with an original designs. Thus we classified this process and conducted a case study of fabricated models as an exploratory study. As the result, we found that each phase is connected with other phases with the circulation of information and rationalization process can be determined as the circulative process which re-designs digital model by minimally deviating from the original design based on the information deducted from analysis of inter-compatability of software and requirement of hardware.
