  • High-frequency electric resistance welding (HERW) technique is one of the most productive manufacturing method currently available for pipe and tube production because of its high welding speed. In this process, a heat input is controlled by skilled operators observing color and shape of bead but such a manual control can not provide reliability and stability required for manufacturing pipes of high grade quality because of a variety of bead shapes and noisy environment. In this paper, in an effort to provide reliable quality inspection, we propose a neural network-based method for classification of bead shape. The proposed method utilizes the structure of Kohonen network and is designed to learn the skill of the expert operators and to provide a good solution to classify bead shapes according to their welding conditions. This proposed method is implemented on the real pipe manufacturing process, and a series of experiments are performed to show its effectiveness.

  • There are many methods for muscle strengthening. Muscle strengthening with eccentric contraction work is the best way by researcher's report. Also, eccentric contraction need proper resistance for muscle strengthening. Combination of isotonic in PNF is a muscle strengthening method with manual resistance. It makes concentric contraction $\rightarrow$ eccentric contraction $\rightarrow$ concentric contraction with continually and without muscle relaxation. Combination isotonic technique use with PNF pattern. Therefore, it will make development and increasing of active control motion, coordination, actual range of motion, strengthen and functional training in eccentric control of movement. Concentric contraction have the 3rd lever system and eccentric contraction have the 2nd lever system with combination of isotonic. Serial concentric contraction $\rightarrow$ eccentric contraction $\rightarrow$ concentric contraction make strong SEC and PEC. It will be increase elasticity of SEC, PEC and contractile components either.

  • Latex-modified concrete using ready mix concrete (R-LMC) was developed for application of building construction project (specifically, the rooftop of a parking garage unable to use heavy equipments for bridge deck overlay) due to three major outstanding properties of R-LMC; bond strength, resistance of cracks at early age, and resistance of freezing and thawing. However, R-LMC at the placement stage is required to be sufficiently cured because R-LMC is very sensitive to rate of evaporation of surface moisture. This study focused on effects of different curing methods and climate condition on cracks on the surface of hardened R-LMC considering the chart of rate of evaporation of surface moisture from concrete provided by American Concrete Institute in manual for placement of latex modified concrete.

  • In the Building Act, performance-based fire safety design is being promoted for institutionalization. The behavior of the structure against fire conditions can be predicted by using the advanced numerical analysis method based on the FEM (Finite Element Method) to predict the entire structural behavior including the behavior of the structure, but there is a limit to expressing the fire properties of the space and predicting the fire properties It is difficult to determine the variables to be transmitted to the FEM (Finite Element Method) model from the fire simulation results using FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator). Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to introduce the code user's manual for FDS and FEM unidirectional coupling analysis.

  • The appearance of CSR changes the concept of the hull form design as well as structural design, since the application of CSR inevitably brings the lightweight increase of a ship. Keeping the original design constraints such as principal particulars, deadweight, and speed performance, designers have to increase the volume of the hull form. As a result, the entrance angle at bow end should become larger, which results in blunter waterline shape. For a slow and full ship having high $C_B$ more than 0.85, a new concept of bow shape has been required to alleviate the increase of wave-making resistance, since it is very difficult to improve waterline and frameline shape for such a full ship. In this paper a new bow shape of Capesize Bulk Carrier was developed to improve its wave-making characteristics without incompliance with the design constraints. For loading manual calculation, NAPA software was used. FLUENT6.3.26 and WAVIS1.4 were used to evaluate resistance performance of the subject hull forms. The newly designed hull form was tested at SSPA model basin for the final confirmation of resistance and propulsion performance of the ship. It was found that the new bow shape of a Capesize Bulk Carrier improved the resistance characteristics greatly compared to a conventional bulbous bow. The other benefits of new bow shape on the manufacturability were also investigated.

  • Background: The hamstring muscles in the lower extremity are highly important for knee joint stability and can be classified into medial and lateral hamstrings according to the anatomical position, which have some different functions. To measure the strength of the individual hamstring muscles, manual muscle testing is clinically performed by dividing rotation postures into internal and external postures. However, this has no sufficient scientific background. Objects: This study aimed to test the difference that the tibial rotation would cause in the muscle activity of the medial and lateral hamstrings. Methods: The muscle activities of the biceps femoris, semitendinosus, and semimembranosus were measured in a total of three different postures (neutral position and internal and external rotations) with 3 replications. During the maximal isometric contraction, resistance was constantly provided by the string attached to the strap, not by manual resistance of the examiner. Before and after electromyography measurements, the participants underwent hamstring flexibility measurement using the active knee extension test in the supine position on the treatment table. Results: The semitendinosus had a 12.56% reduction in muscle activity in external rotation as compared with that in neutral position. The biceps femoris and semimembranosus showed reduced muscle activities in both external and internal rotations as compared with those in neutral position. Only the women showed significant decreases in the comparison between pre and post-active knee extension. Conclusion: Only the semitendinosus muscle was consistent with the anatomical speculation. However, the reduction in the muscle activity of the semitendinosus as compared with that in neutral position was only 12.56%, the clinical value of which may be difficult to justify.

  • Background: The objective of this study was to compare the efficacies of thoracic self-mobilization and strengthening exercise in young adults with thoracic hyperkyphosis. Methods: The subjects were 30 young adults (11 males, 19 females) with thoracic hyperkyphosis. They were randomly assigned to one of three groups: thoracic self-mobilization, thoracic strengthening exercise, and control group. The thoracic self-mobilization group performed active dynamic exercises, which included thoracic extension and rotation in supine and standing positions. The strengthening exercise group performed resistance exercises involving the back extensor muscle, with an elastic band and dumbbells. The outcome measures were the thoracic kyphosis angle and forward head posture (craniovertebral angle [CVA] and cranial rotation angle [CRA]). Results: Compared with the baseline values, the thoracic kyphosis angle had decreased while the CVA had increased in both training groups (p<.05), but the CRA was significantly decreased in only the strengthening exercise group. Thoracic self mobilization reduced kyphosis and improved CVA, while thoracic strengthening exercise reduced kyphosis and improved CVA and CRA. Conclusion: This study suggests a promising exercise intervention that can improve posture in young adults with thoracic hyperkyphosis.

  • Resistance of perilla varieties to Botrytis cinerea LVF12 was evaluated, while antagonistic bacteria were selected and tested for their efficacy towards biological control of gray mold rot caused by B. cinerea. Among 11 perilla varieties tested for disease resistance, Milyang variety showed some degree of resistance, while the rest of varieties showed no resistance. Among 250 bacterial isolates collected from perilla loaves and rhizosphere of perilla plants, six isolates showed high levels of inhibitory effect on mycelial growth and conidial germination of B. cinerea in in vitro test. Using the pot test in growth chambers these isolates showed high levels of disease suppression, with Nl isolate showing 95.3% of control value and N4 isolate showing 90.8% of control value. Further test was performed to evaluate the two isolates ability for disease prevention and/or disease therapy, and results showed almost 100% of control vague. Isolates Nl and N4 were identified as Bacillus licheniformis and 5. megatepium, respectively, according to Bergey's manual, API 20E and 50CHB test kit, and Transmission electron microscope.
