Malignant fibrous histiocytoma is one of the most common soft tissue sarcomas in late adult life. but its incidence in oral and maxillofacial region is extremely rare. We report a case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma which occurred in the infratemporal fossa. Conventional radiograph of this case showed an ill-defined radiolucent lesion in the alveolar bone of the right maxillary first molar area. the lateral wall of the maxillary sinus. and the ascending ramus of mandible. MRI demonstrated a well defined mass of intermediate signal intensitiy in Tl weighted images but T2 weighted images showed two distinctive regions of different characteristics. Upper portion of the lesion was of hyperintense signal but (at) lower portion, the signal intensity decreased clearly, which might mean that this lesion(mass) is composed of two different subtypes though it couldn't be confirmed by histopathological examination. Biopsy was taken the lesion as only in the soft tissue of the maxillary posterior alveolar region and confirmed the storiform-pleomorphic type of malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Histopathological subtype was well consistent with the relatively aggressive imaging findings of that region. We expect more detailed analysis of the nature of malignant fibrous histiocytoma with improvement of the imaging modality and the identification of the relationship between diagnostic imaging and histopathologic findings.

A malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is a major subset of soft tissue sarcomas, which occurs principally on the extremities or in the retroperitoneum, as well as on the head and neck of elderly patient. However, it is an extremely rare event when a MFH occurs primarily in the diaphragm of a young people. A 25-year-old woman visited our hospital complaining of right chest pain. The chest X-ray showed a diaphragmatic mass. An exploratory thoracotomic biopsy revealed a primary MFH of the diaphragm. The patient was treated with combined chemotherapy consisting of ifosfamide and doxorubicin. A partial response was seen after 6 cycles of chemotherapy. However, she died of brain metastasis 12 months after the diagnosis.

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is a tumor which most often develops in the soft tissues of the extremities and retroperitoneum, but very rarely originates in the mediastinum. We report a 71-year-old man who admitted with anterior mediastinal tumor and underwent surgical resection of tumor in our hospital. The mass was histologically confirmed as MFH.

Purpose: Malignant fibrous histiocytoma(MFH) is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in adult. As to this date, tissue development, treatment and prognosis of the tumor has not been definitely clarified, however, it has been reported that wide surgical resection of the tumor along with the radiotheraphy and chemotheraphy is needed for treatment. In MFH with high recurrence rate, the reconstruction method and points to be considered for reconstruction in recurrent case were studied in 10 patients who were treated in our hospital. Methods: From August of 1991 to August 2007, location of tumor, initial mass size, 1st recurred period, lymph node metastasis, recurrence rate, treatment modality, complication, reconstruction in recurrent defect, and follow up period was studied in 10 patients who underwent reconstruction at our Plastic surgery department following wide excision. Results: The average age was 62.8(46 - 73) years old, average follow up period was 7.7(1 - 17) years. Various reconstructions has been performed for recurrent cases and postoperative chemotheraphy and radiotheraphy was done. As for reconstruction in recurrent cases, After wide excision, local flap was performed in 6 cases, and free flap in 2 cases. After radiotherapy, osteoradionecrosis was occurred in 4 cases. Recurrence rate was 1 - 5(2.6) times and reconstruction due to recurrence was 7 out of 10 cases(70%). Conclusion: The treatment modality of MFH is not yet defined. Due to it's high recurrence rate, radiotherapy and chemotherapy is commonly combined with surgery. Even still, additional excision and reconstruction may be required. Therefore, possibility of re-operation must be considered when performing every excision and reconstruction; in case a recurrence or osteoradionecrosis occurs. Free flap coverage should be left as the last resort, according to the principle of reconstruction. Nevertheless, if the defect is large or osteoradionecrosis is present, it will benefit greatly to the patient's quality of life.
Malignant fibrous histiocytoma rarely occurs in the jaws. A case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma originated from the maxillary sinus is reported with review of literature. A 59-year-old woman visited the Chonnam University Hospital in March, 1990, with chief complaint of swelling and tenderness in the right cheek. Radiographic findings revealed wide destruction of the maxilla. The biopsy taken from the maxilla showed histopatholgic findings of malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Accordingly the patient received preoperative and postoperative anticancer chemotherapy by the modified CY-VA-DIC protocol of the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG). Preoperative and postoperative radiotherapy were also given to her in total 40Gy of $^{60}Co$ And she underwent radical resection of the maxilla. No evidence of recurrence or metastasis was shown for 2-year period of postoperative follow up.
Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is the most common soft tissue sarcoma of late adult life. This tumor occurs principally as a mass on an extremity or in the abdominal cavity or retroperitoneum of adult but primary pulmonary MFH is rare. MFH may be subclassified into storiform-pleomorphic, myxoid, giant cell, inflammatory, and angiomatoid type and the prognosis is no different among the histologic subtypes. We experienced one patient who was consistent with primary MFH of the lung. The patient complained dyspnea and intermittent hemoptysis and showed bilateral suprahilar mass on simple chest film and chest CT. Histological findings by open lung biopsy was storiform-pleomorphic type and individual cells showed histiocyte-like and fibroblast-like appearance.

Primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is a malignant tumor of mesenchymal origin that rarely occurs in the urinary tract, particularly in the urinary bladder. Unlike urothelial carcinoma, which accounts for most bladder cancers, it occurs in the submucosal portion of the bladder wall and consists of the lamina propria, muscularis propria, and adventitia. It is presumed to originate from poorly differentiated pluripotent mesenchymal cells in which fibroblasts and histiocytes are partially differentiated. Radiologically, it is known as the "non-papillary tumor" and is commonly diagnosed as a large mass without necrosis, which shows invasion beyond the muscularis propia. Although the prognosis of this rare malignancy depends on pathological parameters, it generally has a poor prognosis with high local tumor recurrence. Here, we present a case of primary MFH in the urinary bladder with clinical symptoms of lower abdominal pain without gross hematuria that recurred rapidly and showed an aggressive disease course.
Malignant fibrous histiocytoma(MFH) is a deep-seated pleomorphic sarcoma, which occurs principally as a mass of the extremities, abdominal cavity, or retroperitoneum in adults. However, it only rarely occurs in the chest wall. An 85-year-old man had undeergone excision of a small mass on the right posterior chest wall under local anesthesia 14 months age. However, the lesion did not heal and the mass recurred. He was referred to our hospital after the mass had grown to a size of 10.5$\times$8$\times$4cm with a 3$\times$3cm skin defect. Intraoperative frozen biopsy revealed MFH. An en-bloc wide resection and thin-thickness skin graft from his thigh were performed. Although distant metastasis to the lund developed 14 months later and the patient died 2 months later, there was no local recurrence. Thin-thickness skin graft is a simple method for a wide range skin defect, especially in the old age. He recovered in good condition without any physical disabilities.
A case is reported of a man with malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) in right thigh who developed streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS) during postoperative radiotherapy. Before radiotherapy, a patient complained wax and wane lymphedema following wide excision of tumor mass which was confirmed as MFH. He took some nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID) for about one month. He suffered preexisting hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, diabetes and well-controlled hypertension. The patient received conventional radiotherapy to right thigh with a total dose of 32.4 Gy at 1.8 Gy per day. At last radiotherapy fraction, cutaneous erythematous inflammation was suddenly developed at his affected thigh. At that time, he also complained of oliguria, fever and chills. The patient was consulted to internal medicine for adequate evaluation and management. The patient was diagnosed as suggested septic shock and admitted without delay. At admission, he showed hypotension, oliguria, constipation, abnormal renal and liver function. As a result of blood culture, Streptococcus pyogenes was detected. The patient was diagnosed to STSS. He was treated with adequate intravenous antibiotics and fluid support. STSS is one of oncologic emergencies and requires immediate medical intervention to prevent loss of life. In this patient, underlying HCV infection, postoperative lymphedema, prolonged NSAID medication, and radiotherapy may have been multiple precipitating factors of STSS.

Myxofibrosarcoma, also known as a myxoid variant of a malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH), is one of the most common sarcomas in the extremities of elderly people. The lesion is characterized by a high frequency of local recurrence but is uncommon in the head and neck regions. Low-grade myxofibrosarcoma, which is commonly misinterpreted as being benign, has a tendency for histological and biological progression in local recurrences, highlighting the importance of an accurate diagnosis and wide surgical excision of the primary lesion. We report a rare case of low-grade myxofibrosarcoma of the mandible located in the left mandibular body and angle area. The tumor was first diagnosed as a myxofibroma and was resected initially. After the final biopsy the patient underwent combined chemo-radiotherapy. The progress of the patent was uneventful until the one year follow up.
