  • This study is intended to propose a plan index that can be used in the early stage of a museum design based on theoretical review of a major space of a museum including its spatial division, functions and roles. The scope of the study includes functions and roles of circulation in a major space based on precedent studies. The spatial range is limited to a major space among exhibition spaces in a museum. This study analyzes overseas 14 museums. In terms of methodology, the study analyzes circulation in a descriptive way only In the focusing on floor plan and section composition. The results of this study are as follows. First, vertical elements should be critically considered in a circulation plan for functional performance of dimensional circulation distribution in a major space. Second, a plan by location of vertical and horizontal moving elements related to a major space affects a circulation relation more than a connection type between a major space and an exhibition area.

  • This study examines the impact of work values on major-job matching among culinary arts graduates from 2-3-year vocational colleges in Korea. To achieve this objective, the study analyzed work values among 195 wage-earning culinary arts major graduates from 2~3 year vocational colleges, using the most recent three years of data from the Graduate Occupational Mobility Survey. The analysis results are as follows. First, the study reveals a major and job mismatch rate (52.9%) of culinary arts graduates, surpassing the 50.1% reported by the OECD for Korea. Second, the development value of culinary arts graduates significantly enhances the likelihood of major-related employment, in line with previous research. Conversely, an emphasis on environmental values decreases this likelihood, aligning with findings on the negative influence of extrinsic values. Finally, further scrutiny of 14 work value measurement items indicates that prioritizing working hours and personal development diminishes major-related employment while highlighting aptitude and interest in the field, and relevance to major increases the likelihood of major-related employment. Therefore, university career counselors and industry human resource managers should closely collaborate to understand the work values of culinary arts graduates and implement tailored human resource management strategies that promote the transition to employment in major-related fields.

  • This study aims to identify the factors affecting the major immersion of dental hygiene students, including their major selection motivation, career values, and major satisfaction. To this end, data were collected from 191 2nd to 4th-year dental hygiene students in the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions through a survey conducted from July 1 to September 27, 2023, and subsequently analyzed using IBM SPSS/21.0 software. On a scale of 5 points, the average score for major selection motivation was 3.31, with sub-factors of individual motivation at 3.19 and social motivation at 3.46. Similarly, career values received a score of 4.15, with intrinsic values at 4.03 and extrinsic values at 4.24. The major satisfaction score was 3.74, with perceived satisfaction at 3.93, relationship satisfaction at 3.56, curriculum satisfaction at 3.66, general satisfaction at 3.67, and major immersion at 3.30. The factors influencing major immersion, in descending order, were general satisfaction (p<0.05), curriculum satisfaction (p<0.001), and personal motivation (p<0.05). As a result of the study, it was found that personal motivation for major selection, specifically when students choose dental hygiene as their own major, and general satisfaction as well as curriculum satisfaction, among the major satisfaction, significantly influence major immersion. Therefore, it is important to respect students' aptitude and preferences during major selection and develop and provide various career counseling and major adaptation programs that can enhance major satisfaction.

  • Objectives: This study investigates dropout intention and the structural relationship between the dental hygienist role and satisfaction with the study major perceived by dental hygiene students. Methods: A survey was conducted on 269 dental hygiene students. The survey items covered general characteristics, department choice motivation, the desirability of dental hygienist career, practice clinical experience, perception of dental hygienist role, satisfaction with study major, and dropout intention. Independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U test, multiple linear regression analysis, and structural equation modeling were used for statistical analysis. Results: The dropout intention level of dental hygiene students was 2.4 out of 5.0. Satisfaction with study major partially mediates perception of dental hygienist role and dropout intention (direct effect=0.182, p=0.024, indirect effect=-0.437, p=0.010). Perception of dental hygienist role (β=-0.255, p=0.010) and satisfaction with study major (β=-0.661, p=0.010) showed a negative relationship with dropout intention. The factor most affecting dropout intention was satisfaction with study major. Dropout intention was high when selecting a major based on external motivations (β=-0.448, p<0.001). Conclusions: Perception of dental hygienist role and satisfaction with study major directly or indirectly affect dropout intention. Therefore, improving satisfaction with study major and improving the perception of dental hygienists will help reduce dropout intention.

  • This study was conducted to explore the major adjustment factors in undergraduates by investigating the characteristics of group which doesn't correspond to Holland's congruence assumption. For this study, 313 sophomore year undergraduates in engineering were surveyed. The results of this study showed as follows. First, the group which doesn't correspond to Holland's congruence assumption represented 16.6% of all. Second, there were significant differences of basic psychological needs among four groups by interest-major congruence and major adjustment. These findings imply that major selection in congruence with interest is not critical and we should also consider basic psychological needs(autonomy, competence, relatedness) for engineering major adjustment.
