  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of self control and social support on the mobile phone dependence in elementary school students. The subjects were 392 children(187 boys, 205 girls) in 5, 6th grade from two elementary schools in Gyeonggi-do. The mobile phone dependence was assessed by the Mobile Phone Dependence Scale(Ko Seong-Ja, 2012), self control was measured by the Self-control Scale(Nam hyeon-mi, 1999) and social support was assessed by the Social Support Scale(Han mi hyun, 1996). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson correlations and hierarchical regressions. The major results of this study were as follows: First, there was no significant difference in mobile phone dependence by sex of the children. Second, children's mobile phone dependence were correlated with self control and social support. Finally, children's self control, family support and peer support significantly explained the mobile phone dependence. But peer support appeared to have negative corelation on mobile phone dependence, but appeared to have static effect in regression result by suppressor variables. So it needs to explore statistical function of suppressor variables in follow-up studies. Also research of this study indicate that self control enhancement program should be developed and parents should communicate more frankly and affectively with their children in order to prevent children's mobile phone dependence.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore college students' use of learning strategies in a flipped learning class, and to examine the students' use of learning strategies in relation to their achievement levels. The participants were 33 college students who took an introduction to English education course. The study used three data collection procedures: (1) students' performance score; (2) a pre-and post-survey of student learning strategies; (3) a survey of student perception towards the flipped learning experience. Data were analyzed by using paired samples t-test and ANOVA. Results showed that the students used different learning strategies in the beginning and the end of the course, depending on their achievement levels. In particular, significant differences were found among three groups in terms of time management, concentration, selecting main idea, self-testing, and test strategies. The result indicates that learning strategies can be effectively trained and developed in the flipped learning environment with the consideration of students' levels.

  • Despite the trend of decreasing accidents, falling accidents in the construction industry have not decreased and are even rising. Most major accidents are falling accidents caused by hanging scaffolding and are mostly serious. We conducted a review of the literature, institutions, and regulations, which showed that domestic standards are not unified because they are drawn up by referring to overseas standards for hanging scaffolding. New regulations or standards should be established, which should reflect the safety plans for equipment, work advance plans, education, and management. If facility improvement plan for Hanging Scaffolding and implementation of revision of the current work use, regulations and guides are implemented, it will be recognized in advance of the causes of the accident statistics and the classification system and will be the basis for the implementation of joint efforts by workers, managers, supervisors and owners to reduce accidents.

  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAMs) are ubiquitous contaminants in marine environments. PAMs enter estuarine and nearshore marine environment via several routes such as combustion of fossil fuels, domestic and industrial effluents and oil spills. PAHs have been the focus of numerous studies in the world because they are potentially carcinogenic, mutagenic, and teratogenic to aquatic organisms and humans from consuming contaminated food. However, one can hardly find any available data on PAM content in marine organisms in Korea. The present study was carried out in order to determine PAM content in oysters from the intertidal and subtidal zones of Chinhae Bay, which is located in near urban communities and an industrial complex, and the bay is considered to be a major repositories of PAHs. 16 PAHs were analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with uv/vis and fluorescence detectors in oysters: they are naphthalene (NPTHL), acenaphthylene (ANCPL), acenaphthylene (ACNPN), fluorene (FLURN), phenanthrene (PHEN), anthracene (ANTHR), fluoranthene (FLRTH), pyrene (PYR), benzo(a)anthracene (BaA), chrysene (CHRY), benzo(b)fluoranthene (BbF), benzo(k)fluoranthene (BkF), benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), dibenz(a,h)anthracene(DahA), benzo(g,h,i)peryne (BghiP) and indeno(1,2,3,-cd)pyrene (I123cdP). The PAM contents in oysters from the intertidal and subtidal zones of Chinhae Bay ranged from < 0.1 to 992.0 ug/kg (mean $69.8\pm9.8$ ug/kg).

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors affecting the unmet healthcare needs of older people with chronic diseases in Korea and provide a basic research report to strengthen their access to medical care. Methods: In the 2020 older people survey data, 8,182 older people aged 65 or older who were diagnosed with one or more chronic diseases were the final subjects of the study. According to Andersen's behavioral model used in unmet healthcare needs, independent variables were composed of predisposing factors, possible factors, and necessary factors, and whether or not unmet healthcare needs was set as dependent variable. Results: Of the older people with chronic diseases, 1.6% experienced unmet healthcare needs, of which 55.9% experienced unmet healthcare needs for reasons related to economic burden, 31.6% physical constraints, and 12.5% time constraints. As a result of the analysis, older people with chronic diseases were more likely to experience unmet healthcare needs if they were relatively low in age, low in education level, no spouse, low in household income, poor subjective health, complex chronic diseases, and functional restrictions. However, by major reasons for experiencing unmet healthcare needs, living in rural areas were more likely to experience unmet healthcare needs due to physical constraints, and those who participated in economic activities and who had were more likely to experience unmet healthcare needs due to time burden. These results were not derived when only unmet healthcare needs was set as the dependent variable. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the need for an approach by cause of unmet medical occurrence by suggesting that there are differences in influencing factors by reason for experiencing unmet healthcare needs.
