UBVIJHK photometry of the open cluster NGC 2194 are presented. Color-Magnitude diagrams of this cluster show well-defined main sequence and red giant clump. The main sequence also contains clear evidence of binary populations. Based on color-color diagrams, absolute magnitude of red giant clump, ZAMS fitting, and comparisons of observed color-magnitude diagrams with theoretical models, we derive following parameters for the cluster; reddening $E(B-V)=0.44{\pm}0.04$, age of log $t{\sim}8.8$, and finally distance of $(m-M)_0=12.20{\pm}0.18$.
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of service failure magnitude on perceived justice, positive emotion, and revisit intention at restaurants between a collectivist culture(Korea) and an individualistic culture(United States). The results showed that the higher a customer's perception of service failure magnitude, the lower the perceived recovery justices in both cultures. The distributive, procedural, and interactional justices had a favorable effect on positive emotions in both cultures. Other findings revealed that interactional justice was the best predictor of revisit intention in Korea, while distributive justice was the best determinant of revisit intention in the United States. This research suggests that global restaurant managers need to understand how cultural orientation influences consumer perceptions of service failures in order to develop a highly targeted and effective service recovery.
One of the most difficult problems in depth control for underwater vehicle is the effect of seaway disturbance. One component of the seaway forces is of large magnitude with a relatively narrow-band, first order component. The other component is generaly of somewhat smaller magnitude, second order component. Since the magnitude of the first order component is generally much greater than the compensating force that can be generating by the planes, it is undesirable for the controller to generate a control command. In this paper, we disigned adaptive notch filtering system using filter bank structure. Energies of each band-passed signal are obtained by MA(Moving Average) method and compared to produce center frequency. By adapting this parameter to notch filter, 1st order seaway disturbance can be removed, which lead to the improvement of automatic depth control system.
Due to the significant computation of full search in motion estimation, extensive research in fast motion estimation algorithms has been carried out. However, most of the algorithms have the degradation in predicted images compared with the full search algorithm. To reduce an amount of significant computation while keeping the same prediction quality of the full search, we propose a fast block-matching algorithm based on gradient magnitude of reference block without any degradation of predicted image. By using Taylor series expansion, we show that the block matching errors between reference block and candidate block are proportional to the gradient magnitude of matching block. With the derived result, we propose fast full search algorithm with adaptively determined scan direction in the block matching. Experimentally, our proposed algorithm is very efficient in terms of computational speedup and has the smallest computation among all the conventional full search algorithms. Therefore, our algorithm is useful in VLSI implementation of video encoder requiring real-time application.

We compare with earthquake parameters of KMA(Korea Meteorological Administration) and ISC(International Seismological Centre) to understand characteristics of earthquake using 30 earthquakes data acquired from 1978 to 1998 in Korea. We calculate difference of KMA between ISC epicentral distance and analyze for magnitude and year. Difference of epicentral distance decreases according to increase of magnitude and have no concern with year. That is the lowest in case of earthquake occurring in land of south Korea. We estimate relation formula for magnitude of KMA and ESC. The result can be expressed in KMA( $M_{L}$) and ISC( $m_{b}$ ) as $M_{L}$$^{KMA}$ = 0.70* $m_{b}$$^{ISC}$+1.03 and in KMA( $M_{L}$) and ISC( $M_{L}$ as $M_{L}$$^{KMA}$=0.47* $M_{L}$$^{ISC}$+1.37X> ISC/+1.371.371.37
The b-value in the magnitude-frequency relationship logN(m) = $\alpha$ - bmwhere N(m) is the number of earthquakes exceeding magnitude m, is important seismicity parameter In hazard analysis. Estimation of the b-value for earthquake data observed on KSRS array network is done employing the maximum likelihood technique. Assuming the whole Korea Peninsula as a single seismic source area, the b-value is computed at 0.9. The estimation for KMA earthquake data is also similar to that. Since estimate is a function of minimum magnitude, we can inspect the completeness of earthquake catalog in the fitting process of b-value. KSRS and KMA data lists are probably incomplete for magnitudes less than 2.0 and 3.0, respectively. Examples from probabilistic seismic hazard assessment calculated for a range of b-value show that the small change of b-value has seriously effect on the prediction of ground motion.
The magnitude of additive effects generally parralled the magnitude of difference between parental means and appeared to be more independent from non - allelic interaction than dominance effects, whereas the magnitude of dominance effects were inflated by non-allelic interaction. Additive effects were significant for all characteristics observed and those of leaf width and leaf shape index of lugs, cutter and leaf and leaf width of tips were higher than dominance effects. Non-allelic gene interaction was expressed in leaf length of lugs, cutter and tips and heterosis of these characters were lower than the other characters.
A new fiber orientation sensor has been developed and tested on an actual paper machine to demonstrate its capability to function as a real-time monitoring system. First, we demonstrate the ability of the sensor system to detect the change in the fiber orientation angle while the sensor head, and not the paper, was intentionally rotated from $-90^{\circ}\;to\;+70^{\circ}$ with respect to the paper-traveling direction. Next, we demonstrate that this system can successfully detect the change in the magnitude and angle of fiber orientation in running paper when the direction of material flow on the wire was changed on the paper machine. The angle and magnitude of fiber orientation were independently confirmed by SST and MOA measurements. Furthermore, we found that the system was capable of measuring the basis weight and the moisture content of running paper while detecting the angle and magnitude of fiber orientation.
The Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera combined with a small aperture telescope is an efficient equipment for an astronomy-related lab exercise. This paper compares the different photometry softwares to provide insights on using the GUI-based photometry tool to the conventional command-line based photometry tool. The magnitude of the same point source measured within the aperture is consistent regardless of the software used although the background estimation, partial pixel treatment, and error estimation are slightly different. In a crowded field image where the aperture photometry is less reliable, the aperture photometry with varying aperture size is useful to see the qualitative trend for the magnitude. Due to the variation in ISO settings and the color dependence on the RGB Bayer system, an initial uncertainty of ~0.15mag is expected to be embedded in the magnitude derived from the DSLR images.

In this paper, a high-performance, low-area gradient-magnitude calculator architecture is proposed, based on approximate image processing. To reduce the computational complexity of the gradient-magnitude calculation, vector properties, the symmetry axis, and common terms were applied in a hardware-resource-shared architec-ture. The proposed gradient-magnitude calculator was implemented using an Altera Cyclone IV FPGA (EP4CE115F29) and the Quartus II v.16 device software. It satisfied the output-data quality while reducing the logic elements by 23% and the embedded multipliers by 76%, compared with previous work.
