Magnetic recording is still considered to be a.leader in storage industries in general. The rigid disk drive, in particular, has an advantage over tape, optical, magneto-optical, or flash memories, because of high areal density and fast access time with reasonably low cost per Mbyte. However, to be competitive in the market and to keep an edge over other storage devices, head and media in rigid disk drives require better performance per cost and more aggressive improvement in areal density, as shown in Fig. 1, than before. In this review paper, the future trend in head/media technologies of the rigid disk drive has been reviewed. Thin film media and thin film inductive/MR heads will be mainly discussed, since they are expected to be dominant in the future high-end drives over other technologies, such as particulate media or MIG heads.(omitted)mitted)
This paper analyze the steady state performance of a self-acting air lubricated slider bearing in hard disk/head system. Modified Reynolds' equation is derived from the steady state compressible Navier-Stokes equation, under slip-flow conditions. Finite difference technique and numerical procedure are described by using Newton-Raphson iteration method to slove the non-linear equations. These techniques are applied to conventional slider bearings and the effects of molecular mean free path(MMFP) for a recording surface of hard disk are shown. The calculation procedure developed here, wide applicabilities in practical head design procedures, and converges rapidly.
We measure the magnetoresistance (MR) of sputtered Permalloy ($Ni_{83}Fe_{17}$) films with external strains produced by piezoelectric tranducer actuators. We observe that the MR raito was increased by 2.3 times by a compressive strain of $3.5{\times}10^{-4}$ compared to that of the as-deposited film. Tensile strains and compressive strains reduced the MR ratio. These observations suggest that it is possible to tune the MR properties through the use of the external strains. We expect to apply the results for the multi-head magnetic recorders with selectively activated recording heads.
Fundamental issues and general procedures of modeling the head disk interface (HDI) in order to provide design criteria for future ultra-low flying sliders are given. Intermittent contact and gaseous rarefaction effects are discussed using nonconventional kinetic theory. To illustrate the simulation results, we modeled IBM 3370 taper flat sliders and positive/negative "bow tie" sliders. Several alternative HDI concepts for future disk drives - viscoelastic bearings, a hybrid system, and contact recording - are also briefly discussed.
이를 위하여 DVCR에서는 ATF(Automatic Track Following)방식을 사용한다.
This study was performed to investigate the relationship between Forward Head Posture(FHP) and Craniomandlbular Disorders(CMDs). Many studies reported that there was some relationship between them, however, there is still controversy. So It Is necessary to observe and compare many more patients with CMDs wirh normal controls. For the study 85 patients with CMDs and 37 dental students were selected as experimentals and controls, respectively. And the experimentals were classified Into two groups, that is, TMJ internal derangement group and muscle disorders group according to clinical diagnosis. For measuring the FHP, CROM(Cervical-Range-of-Notion)was used. This goniometer is composed of three part. First, gravity goniometer for flexion and extension. Second, magnetic compass and yoke for rotational movement. And last, forward head arm and vertebra locator for forward head posture. Next T-Scan, electronic occlusal analyzer, was used for recording of occlusal contact state. Other items such as maximum opening, lateral excursion, Helkimo's anamnestic index, and muscle palpation point from Friction's craniomandibular index were checked clinically by one examiner. The result of this study were as follows : 1. In male, control group showed much more measurement in resting forward head posture than did experimental group. But there were not significant differences between groups in female subject. From this results, the author contended that CROM is new measuring system and differ from other goniometers in some aspect, so that results should be re-evaluated 2. Mean value of maximum mouth opening in nearly all groups were greater than 40mm. and mouth opening had a significant correlation with occlusal force and with anamnestic index both sex. 3. Mean value of palpation point had not any correlationship with forward head posture in both sex, but there was significant difference between upper and lower group by rounded shouldes. 4. In summary, there was no significant relationship between forward head posture and sign and symptom of Craniomandibular Disorders.
This paper proposes a dynamic magnetic field emulator (DMFE), which can electrically emulate information for the magnetic stripes of most widely used credit cards. Payment transactions with most common credit cards are performed by reading the card's information, encoded in magnetic stripes, using the reader head of a point-of-sale (POS) system. A stripe-type permanent magnet is attached to the back side of the credit card, and information for payments or value-added service is reorganized by exposing it to strong magnetic field. The process of data recording and retrieving as stated above has been pointed out as a major cause of illegal credit card use, because the information on the magnetic stripe is always exposed, and is thus vulnerable to forgery or alteration. A dynamic magnetic field emulator displays card information only when necessary by using the principle of solenoidal magnets. The DMFE proposed in this paper can prevent fraudulent use if it is operated with a device, like a smart phone, or a separate user-authentication procedure. In addition, because it is possible to display various information as needed, it can be utilized for a smart multi-card application, in which information for multiple cards is stored in one card, and can be selected and used as needed. This paper introduces the necessity of the DMFE and its manufacturing principles. As a result, this study will be helpful for making various application cases in payment, which is a core area of the Fintech (a newly-coined word of finance and technology) industry.
Multimedia has created a system environment that needs a combination of diverse peripherals, faster I/O, and easier configuration. The sheer volume of data one can expect with multimedia hardware and applications storage systems of higher capacity and faster data transfer rate. Unlike the magneto-optical(MO)disk technology which uses bias magnetic field in writing, both the reading and the writing in the phase change (PC) technology are performed only by laser light. In PC optical media, an active layer is reversibly converted between amorphous state and crystalline state by changing irradiation conditions of focused laser beam. Thus, as compared with MO disk, the PC disk has such great advantages that signals can be reproduced by change of reflectance of laser beams in the same manner as the compact disc. The reflectivity of a phase-change spot can be altered in a single pass under the head only through modulation of laser power. The principles and the current status of phase-change optical recording media combined with possible applications are discussed in the present article.
