This paper describes a point matching method that is based on an expansion of the electromagnetic field in terms of a series of Bessel and modified Bessel functions multiplied by trigonometric functions. In this method, the electric and magnetic fields inside the waveguide core are matched to those outside the core at matching points on the boundary to yield matrix equations. As an example applying this method, the paper presents the results of the computation in the form of curves of the propagation constants in a semicircular optical waveguide, be formed by annealing for reduced insertion(radiation) loss when connected to optical fiber. The propagation curves are presented in a form of refractive index independent. Also, it presents relative energy distributions between inside the core and outside the core of various modes and presents field distributions.

The work described in this paper is to investigate the additional iron losses and consequent temperatures in core ends of a turbo-generator wound with high voltage cables. Electromagnetic calculations are made with 3D FE models, which include the lamination material with anisotropic properties both in magnetic permeability and electric conductivity. The models also include the geometry of the stator teeth and eventually the axial steps designated to reduce the core end losses. The 3D model of the rotor consists of field windings with straight in-slot parts and end windings. The thermal models are simplified into two dimensions and include the heat sources dumped from the 3D electromagnetic solutions. The influences of power factor on additional iron losses are studied for this cable wound machine and conventional machines. The calculation results show that the additional iron losses can be reduced to about $15\%$ by introducing some small steps around the airgap corner of core ends.

In the neuron, SNARE (soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptors) assembly plays a central role in driving membrane fusion, a required process for neurotransmitter release. In the cytoplasm, vesicular SNARE VAMP2 (vesicle-associated membrane protein 2) engages with two plasma membrane SNAREs syntaxin 1A and SNAP-25 (synaptosome-associated protein of 25 kDa) to form the core complex that bridges two membranes. While various factors regulate SNARE assembly, the membrane also plays the regulatory role by trapping VAMP2 in the membrane. The fluorescence and EPR analyses revealed that the insertion of seven C-terminal core-forming residues into the membrane controls complex formation of the entire core region, even though preceding 54 core-forming residues are fully exposed and freely moving. When two interfacial Trp residues in this region were replaced with hydrophilic serine residues, the mutation supported rapid complex formation.
This paper describes a current differential relaying algorithm for a three-phase transformer considering the nonlinear magnetization characteristics of the core. The iron-loss current is obtained from the calculated induced voltage and the core-loss resistance. The magnetizing current is calculated from the estimated core flux and the magnetization curve. The proposed algorithm uses the modified differential current, which is obtained by subtracting the iron-loss current and the magnetizing current from the conventional differential current. The various test results show that the algorithm can discriminate internal fault from magnetic inrush, overexcitation and an external fault.

In this study, we have fabricated amorphous FeZrBAg thin films with low core losses by using DC magnetron sputtering method. After deposition, rotational field annealing (RFA) method was performed in the dc field of 1.5 kOe. The amorphous FeZrBAg thin films produced by annealing at 35$0^{\circ}C$ was founded to have high permeability of 8680 at 100 MHz, 0.2 mOe, low coercivity of 0.86 Oe high magnetization of 1.5 T and very low core loss of 1.3 W/cc at 1 MHz, 0.IT respectively. Excellent soft magnetic properties in a amorphous FeZrBAg thin films in the present study are presumably the homogeneous formation of very fine bcc $\alpha$-Fe crystalline with the 8.2 nm in an amorphous FeZrBAg thin film matrix.
Surface-mounted permanent magnet (PM) machines were examined experimentally and theoretically, through power loss measurements and calculations. Windage, friction and copper losses were calculated using simple analytical equations and finite element (FE) analyses. Stator core losses were calculated by determining core loss coefficients through curve-fitting and magnetic behavior analysis through non-linear FE calculations. Rotor eddy current losses were calculated using FE analyses that considered the time harmonics of phase current according to load. Core, windage and friction open-circuit losses and copper loss were determined experimentally to test the validity of the analyses.
Multifunctional nanomaterials based on mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) and metal oxide nanocrystals are among the most promising materials for theragnosis because of their ease of modification and high biocompatibility. However, the preparation of multifunctional nanoparticles requires time-consuming multistep processes. Herein, we report a simple one-pot synthesis of multifunctional Mn3O4/mesoporous silica core/shell nanoparticles (Mn3O4@mSiO2) involving the temporal separation of core formation and shell growth. This simple procedure greatly reduces the time and effort required to prepare multifunctional nanoparticles. Despite the simplicity of the process, the properties of nanoparticles are not markedly different from those of core/shell nanoparticles synthesized by a previously reported multistep process. The Mn3O4@mSiO2 nanoparticles are biocompatible and have potential for use in optical imaging and magnetic resonance imaging.

A Superconducting Rotary Machine (SRM) is characterized by an air-cored machine with its rotor iron and stator iron teeth removed. For this reason, the SRM is featured by 3D magnetic flux distribution, which decreases in the direction of axis, Therefore, 3D magnetic field analysis method is required to know about characteristic of magnetic field distribution of SRM, In this paper, 3D flux distribution of SRM is calculation by using analytical method. The magnetic field distribution due to the field coils use of the Biot-Savart equation. The magnetic core is represented by magnetic surface polarities. The paper describes the combined use of above methods for the total computation, and compares analytical method and 3D FEM(Finite Element Method) results.

This paper presents the error correction method of magnetic position sensor using recursive least square method (RLSM) with forgetting factor. Magnetic position sensor is proposed for linear position detection of the linear motor which has tooth shape stator, consists of permanent magnet, iron core and linear hall sensor, and generates sine and cosine waveforms according to the movement of the mover of the linear motor. From the output of magnetic position sensor, the position of the linear motor can be detected using arc-tan function. But the variation of the air gap between magnetic position sensor and the stator and the error in manufacturing process can cause the variation in offset, phase and amplitude of the generated waveforms when the linear motor moves. These variations in sine and cosine waveforms are changed according to the current linear motor position, and it is very difficult to compensate the errors using constant value. In this paper, the generated sine and cosine waveforms from the magnetic position sensor are compensated on-line using the RLSM with forgetting factor. And the speed observer is introduced to reduce the effect of uncompensated harmonic component. The approaches are verified by some simulations and experiments.

This study introduced waste water treatment method applied superconductor HGMS(High Gradient Magnetic Separation). HGMS method treat high efficient method for various waste water. we have surveyed superconducting magnetic separation technology and reviewed the status of related industries using applied superconductivity. We fabricated the prototypes of magnetic matrix filter consisting of stainless steel mesh, which is a core component in the magnetic separation system. In our basic preliminary experiment using HGMS, it was made clear that the fine para-magnetic particles in the rolling colling wasted water obtained from rolling process of POSCO can be separated with high efficiency.
