The development of pre-set wavelength G$\ddot{o}$rtler vortices are studied in the boundary-layer flows on concave surfaces of 1.0 and 2.0 m radius of curvature. The wavelengths of the vortices were pre-set by thin wires of 0.2 mm diameter placed 10 mm upstream and perpendicular to the concave surface leading edge. Velocity contours were obtained from velocity measurements using a single hot-wire anemometer probe. The most amplified or dominant wavelength is found to be 15 mm for free-stream velocity of 2.1 m/s and 3.0 m/s on the concave surface of R = 1 m and 2 m, respectively. The velocity contours in the cross-sectional planes at several streamwise locations show the growth and breakdown of the vortices. Three different regions can be identified based on the growth rate of the vortices. The occurrence of a secondary instability mode is also shown in the form of mushroom-like structures as a consequence of the non-linear growth of the G$\ddot{o}$rtler vortices. By pre-setting the vortex wavelength to be much larger and much smaller than the most amplified one, the splitting and merging of G$\ddot{o}$rtler vortices can be respectively observed.

Concave surface boundary-layer flows are subjected to centrifugal instability which results in the formation of streamwise counter-rotating vortices. Such boundary layer flows have been experimentally investigated on concave surfaces of 1 m and 2 m radius of curvature. In the experiments, to obtain uniform vortex wavelengths, thin perturbation wires placed upstream and perpendicular to the concave surface leading edge, were used to pre-set the wavelengths. Velocity contours were obtained from hot-wire anemometer velocity measurements. The most amplified vortex wavelengths can be pre-set by the spanwise spacing of the thin wires and the free-stream velocity. The velocity contours on the cross-sectional planes at several streamwise locations show the growth and breakdown of the vortices. Three different vortex growth regions can be identified. The occurrence of a secondary instability mode is also shown as mushroom-like structures as a consequence of the non-linear growth of the streamwise vortices. Wall shear stress measurements on concave surface of 1 m radius of curvature reveal that the spanwise-averaged wall shear stress increases well beyond the flat plate boundary layer values. By pre-setting much larger or much smaller vortex wavelength than the most amplified one, the splitting or merging of the streamwise vortices will respectively occur.

A SiO2/Si concave diffraction grating(period: 1.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) for the angular dispersive element of WDM was fabricated by sandwiching the SiO2/Si plane diffraction grating between a slab waveguide and a cylindrical concave block. Using this concave grating and input/output fiber, and wavelength division demultiplexer was composed. The demultiplexer has five channels, the insertion loss of 30dB, the wavelength spacing per channel of 7nm and crosstalk of-15dB.
Four endodontic instruments from different manufacturers(K - file, Hedstrom - file, K - flex - file, Cavi - Endo) were used to shape 80 mesial canals of extracted posterior teeth. The instrument's ability to enlarge and shape the canals as the original canal shape was assessed by superimposing radiographs of canals obtained before and after canal shaping. The results were as follows 1. Hedstrom - file enlarged canals greater than K - file, K - flex - file, and Cavi - Endo(P<0.05). There are no differences in canal enlargement among K - flex, K - flex - file, and Cavi - Endo(P<0.05). 2. All the instruments showed no difference in canal enlargement between convex side and concave side of B point in proximal and clinical radiographic views, but at the concave side of C point canals were enlarged greater than at the convex side(proximal view of K - file: P<0.05, the others: P<0.01). 3. There was no difference m canal enlargement between convex side and concave side in proximal view of A and D points of K - file and K - flex - file(P<0.05). But in clinical view, canal enlargement at convex side of A point and concave side of D point was greater than that at concave side of A point and convex side of D point respectively. 4. Hedstrom - files showed greater canal enlargement at convex side of A points and concave side of D points (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Cavi - Endo showed no difference in canal enlargement between convex side and concave side at A and D points in proximal view(P<0.05). Bur canal enlargement was greater at concave side than at convex side of D point in clinical view. 5. K - file and Cavi - Endo showed no differences in canal enlargement between convex and concave side in proximal and clinical view (P<0.05). K - flex - file showed greater canal enlargement at concave side in proximal and clinical view(P<0.0:5). Hedstrom file showed no difference in canal enlargement between convex side and concave side in proximal view, but showed greater canal enlargement at concave side in clinical view(P<0.05).
Green roofs are gaining much interest in many cities around the world due to its multi-purpose effects of water conservation, flood mitigation and aesthetic benefits. However it may cause additional water demand to maintain green plants, which may intensify the current and future water shortage problems. While ordinary concrete roofs and normal green roof drains off rain water, concave green roof system can retain rain water because of its water holding capability. In this study, the water conservation effect of concave green roof was compared to normal roof on #35 building in Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea. For seven rainfall events the amount of stored rainwater and runoff were measured and proved water conservation effect of the concave green roof system. The concave green roof system of which area is 140m2 showed effect of water conservation from 1.8ton to 7.2ton and the most influence factors on water conservation in green roof are rainfall and antecedent day. If this concave green roof is applied to many buildings in the cities, it is expected as a way to water conservation through rainfall storage.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine appropriate threshing and selection conditions for sorghum harvesting using a rice combine-harvester. Methods: Sorghum harvesting performance was tested using an actual rice combine. Through this test, the grain loss rate and the composition of crops according to the engine and fan speeds of the combine were investigated. Furthermore, the optimal threshing and selection conditions were determined by carrying out a harvest test based on the opening size factor of the concave in a test field. Results: The grain loss rate for the sorghum using a concave ($18{\times}18mm$) of the rice combine was the lowest at 0.1% at a chaffer angle of $40^{\circ}$, engine speed of 2000 rpm, and fan speed of 20 m/s, but the sorting sieve clogged frequently. Furthermore, as the engine speed and fan speed increased, the grain loss rate also increased. The sorghum harvesting test results of the combine according to the concave opening size showed that the grain loss rate was 0.5% at a driving speed of 0.5 m/s, with a concave opening diameter of 13 mm, a chaffer angle of $40^{\circ}$, a concave sieve oscillation frequency of 4.8 Hz, a fan speed of 20 m/s, and an engine speed of 2000 rpm. Conclusions: Findings showed that sorghum could be harvested using a head feeding rice combine.

In this paper, we report the fabrication of concave surface fiber tips for optical resonators. It was confirmed that the radius of curvature on fiber end can be controlled by introducing the hydrofluoric acid solution and the wavelength of $1.55{\mu}m$ laser which is absorbed well in the etchant to induce the photothermal effect. Using the microscope images, we observed the proposed concave fiber tip fabrication method is effective to make the controllable concave tips. We also observed changes in the size of the beam emitted from the tips with the various radius of curvature using the beam profiler. The authors believe that the proposed method will be applied to resonators for optical communications.

A three-dimensional finite element approach to process analysis and design for joining the socket with the ball by a kind of the rotary forging processes is presented in this paper. The rigid-plastic finite element method is employed and its results are used to reduce the number of process design tryouts. The approach is applied to developing a concave piston assembly for a high pressure hydraulic pump. Experiments show that the developed piston assembly satisfies the quality requirement on geometrical tolerance.

Based on increasing concave ordering a new class of life distribution is introduced. The new class of life distribution is named used better than aged in increasing concave ordering and is denoted by UBAC(2). The implication of our proposed class of life distribution with other classes is given. The properties of UBAC(2) under convolution, discrete mixture and formation of a coherent system are studied. Finally a characterization of the proposed class of life distributions by Laplace transform is discussed.
