  • The purpose of this study is to propose the general method for evaluating the equivalent damping ratios of a structure with supplemental response control dampers. We define Lyapunov function of which derivative can be expressed in autoregressive form and evaluate the equivalent damping ratios by using Lyapunov function and its derivative. This Lyapunov function may be called as generalized structural energy. In this study, it is assumed that the response of a structure is stationary random process and control dampers do not affect the modal shapes of a structure, and the structure has proportional damping. Proposed method can be used to get the equivalent damping ratios of a structure with non-linear control dampers such as friction dampers as well as linear control dampers. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method. we evaluate the equivalent damping ratios of a structure with viscous dampers. AMDs. and friction dampers. The equivalent damping ratios from proposed method are compared to those from eigenvalue analysis for linear control dampers. and those from time history analysis for non-linear control dampers. respectively.

  • Sleep deprivation may affect the brain functions such as cognition and, consequentoy, dynamics of the EEG. we examiced the effects of sleep deprivation on chaoticity of EEG. Five volunteers were sleep-deprived over a period of 24 hours, They were checked by EEG during two days, the first day of baseline period, EEGs were reorded form 16 channels for nonlinear analysis. We dmployed a method of minimum cmbedding dimension to calculate the first positive Lyapunov exponent. For limited noisy data, this algorithm was strikingly faster and more accurate than previous ones. Our results show that the sleep deprived volunteers had lower values of the first positive Lyapunov exponent at ten channels (Fp$\_$1/, F$\_$4/, F$\_$8/, T$\_$4/, T$\_$5/, C$\_$3/, C$\_$4/, P$\_$3/, p$\_$4, O$\_$1/) compared with the values of baseline periods. These results suggested that sleep deprivation leads to decreawe of chaotic activity in brain and impairment of the information processing in the brain. We suggested that nonlinear analysis of the EEG before and after sleep deprivation may offer fruitful perspectives for understanding the role o f sleep deprivation on the brain function.

  • This paper deals with a controller design for a 2 dimensional aeroelatic model which has unknown parameters including polynomial type nonlinearity. Actually in case of state and acuator signal having magnitude, rate and bandwidth limitations, the controller can't be implemented and so in each case, a filter is used for implementation. First, error signals are defined upon the backstepping theory, and tracking error signals are also defined due to command signal and filter signals and then compensated tracking error signals are defined. Lastly, a Lyapunov function is defined for the stabilization and from this method, an adaptive law is derived. Simulations are done for the demonstrtion of the effectiveness of the algorithms.

  • This study is on control gain estimation of energy dissipation control algorithms. Velocity feedback saturated, bang bang, and energy gain control algorithms are proposed based on the Lyapunov stability theory and their performances are evaluated and compared. Saturation problem is considered in the design of the velocity feedback saturated and energy-gain control algorithms, and chattering problem in bang bang control is solved by using boundary layer. Numerical results show that the proposed control algorithms can dissipate the structural energy induced by wind loads efficiently.

  • This paper is concerned with the stability analysis and stabilization for the Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy systems with parametric uncertainties. To reduce conservativeness in stability analysis for T-S fuzzy systems, fuzzy Lyapunov functions are used. Stability analysis is performed and robust fuzzy controller is designed for stabilization of the system with parametric uncertainties. The stability and stabilization conditions are formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, simulation example is presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • This paper proposes a controller design for an omnidirectional mobile platform (OMP) with three wheels using backstepping control. A kinematic model and dynamic model of the system are presented. Based on the dynamic modeling, a backstepping controller is designed to stabilize the OMP when following a desired path. The controller is designed based on a backstepping control theory. It includes two steps: first, a virtual state and a stability function are introduced. Second, Lyapunov functions for the system are chosen and an equation for the virtual control that makes the system stabile is obtained. The system stability is guaranteed by the Lyapunov stability theory. The simulation and experimental results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

  • In the map of period-doubling bifurcation, stable fixed points bifurcate to $2^n$ fixed points, and in the chaotic region, the chaotic bands merge to 1/$2^n$ bands. In a typical map, the chaotic bands expand to a broad chaotic band during the merging process, so called crisis. In this paper, interior crises appearing during the merging process will be discussed by using our map and will be analyzed the characteristics of the phenomenon by obtaining the Lyapunov Exponents.

  • This paper deals with vibration control of a small mount with MR(Magneto-Rheological) fluid as a functional fluid mount for precision equipment of automobiles. Damping and stiffness coefficients of the mount with MR fluid are changed by variations of the applied magnetic field strength. We present the robust control scheme, based on a conventional sliding mode control theory, for the design of a stable controller that is capable of vibration control due to various disturbances such as impact and periodic excitations, and is insensitive to dynamic properties of the mount. We got stable controller by using Lyapunov stability theory. The controller is then realized by using a semi-active control condition in simulations. Chattering problem of the sliding mode control is eliminated by saturation function instead of signum function. The sliding mode control with Lyapunov stability theory is superior to passive and Sky-Hook control in performance.

  • This paper presents Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy-model-based controller for depth control of autonomous underwater vehicles(AUVs). Through sector nonlinearity methodology, The nonlinear AUV is represented by T-S fuzzy model. By using the Lyapunov function, the design condition of controller is derived to guarantee the performance of depth control in the format of linear matrix inequality (LMI). An example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

  • This paper analyzes the input side performance of a conventional three-phase to single-phase matrix converter (3-1MC). It also presents the input-side waveform quality under this topology. The suppression of low-frequency input current harmonics is studied using the 3-1MC plus capacitance compensation unit. The constraint between the modulation function of the output and compensation sides is analyzed, and the relations among the voltage utilization ratio and the output compensation capacitance, filter capacitors and other system parameters are deduced. For a 3-1MC without large-capacity energy storage, the system performance is susceptible to input voltage imbalance. This paper decouples the inner current of the 3-1MC using a Lyapunov function in the input positive and negative sequence bi-coordinate axes. Meanwhile, the outer loop adopts a voltage-weighted synthesis of the output and compensation sides as a cascade of control objects. Experiments show that this strategy suppresses the low-frequency input current harmonics caused by input voltage imbalance, and ensures that the system maintains good static and dynamic performances under input-unbalanced conditions. At the same time, the parameter selection and debugging methods are simple.
