  • This study evaluated durability through measurement of substituted test piece's pH degree and experiments of neutralization. Comparing and evaluating cared test piece's pH degrees which we got before the neutralization and after the neutralization. After evaluating neutralization depth through neutralization, evaluating neutralization properties by Fly Ash replacement ratio. pH degree was decreased by cement replacement ratio of Fly Ash. And in the case of substitution of the same amount of Fly Ash, fine aggregate replacement ratio was increased. When the test piece, which had been cared in high temperature, was promoted to neutralization, Among the test piece which was replaced with Fly Ash 40%, the test piece which has high rate of fine aggregate proved opposition of neutralization Through the test, Ⅰ summarized that the test piece cared in high temperature was mostly effected by compress strength, the test piece cared in low temperature was mostly effected by pH degree.

  • Nowadays, as to increased the workability of the press concrete and decrease the cracking, the fiber-reinforced admixture has been widely used. As the low adhesion force between the paste and fiber-reinforced admixture, it was considered as could not be used in the structure. Even more, as the loss of flowability and the exposure of the fiber, further study is needed. In this study, as the different environment and position of the building, the dosages of the fiber-reinforced admixture has also been changed. The fundamental properties and cracking of fiber-reinforced concrete have been tested.

  • The performance degradation of concrete pavement by winter deicer is very serious in Korea, and its maintenance and rehabilitation brings a high expense. Therefore, a suitable method for rehabilitation of such concrete pavement and repair material of proper performance are required. In this study, the properties of compressive strength, ability to resist chloride ion penetration, and properties of dry shrinkage of magnesium phosphate ceramics were assessed to evaluate its applicability as a repair material for concrete pavement in Korea. As a result, the mortar flow showed a normal level of 190 mm, but the viscosity was high and the self-flow ability was poor. The setting time was 12 minutes, leading very rapid-hardening, and thus a prompt work was required. The compressive strength of mortar was 38.4MPa in 2 hours, 73.8MPa in 24 hours, and 111.0MPa in 28 days, showing a significant level. As a result of the test to chloride ion penetration resistance, mortar showed 143 Coulombs, and concrete showed 172.6 Coulombs, which fell under very low level. The drying shrinkage of MPC concrete in 40 days was below $60{\times}10-6$, and comparing with normal cement concrete, it showed the level below 1/10 of other concrete to secure an excellent volume stability. As above, magnesium phosphate ceramics has excellent strength performance, chloride ion penetration resistance, and volume stability, and this in the future shall be used in construction under the consideration of working time or workability, requiring further improvement for such performance.

  • Field and laboratory investigations were performed for concrete pavement of the Yeongdong Expressway located in western part of the Kangwon Province where lots of the substantially large spatting distresses were found. The spatting distresses were investigated to the naked eye in the field, and splitting tensile strength, air void, and neutralization tests were performed for the cores obtained from the pavement. In addition, load transfers at joints and dynamic bearing capacities at slab centers were measured to identify the lowering of the structural capability of the pavement. It was judged that the investigated concrete slabs were affected by freezing and thawing action because the air voids of the cores were substantially low. Therefore, it was concluded that the low air voids affected the lots of the large spatting distress in the pavement located in the region of cold winter.

  • In this study, reinforced concrete slabs with steps were experimentally studied to analyze their structural performance and to suggest reinforcing details in the step. Because the stepped slabs may behave very poorly in terms of bending strength, stiffness, deflection, cracking, etc., the study is aimed to suggest proper reinforcing details such that the same bending strength is obtained as that without steps. The bending strengths of 12 test specimens with a variety of different reinforcing detail types or other parameters were compared with each other. The specimen without any additional reinforcement in the step had a very low bending strength and significant damage, and the specimens with diagonal reinforcements in the step showed substantial early cracks, experienced hinging of the step, and had a substantial loss of the bending strength. In contrast, the specimens with a combination of U-bars, reversed U-bars, L-bars, and reversed L-bars performed very well and almost reached to 100% of the slab bending strength. The U-bars and reversed U-bars were effective in controling the diagonal cracks, while the L-bars and reversed L-bars were effective in preventing from yielding of slab reinforcement near the step.

  • Researches on resources recycling in the field of construction have made an extensive progress such as recycled aggregate of waste concrete and recycling of asphalt. On the other hand, there are almost never researches on pavement method with used waste frying oil. In South Korea, 0.2 million ton used waste frying oil is discharged every year. It is guessed that about 0.1 million ton used waste frying oil can be collected. If used waste frying oil is recycled, it is expected that disuse cost will be reduced and water pollution of rivers will be prevented. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to evaluate on mechanical features (strength, water resistance, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, freezing and thawing resistance and permeable coefficient) whether dense graded permeable concrete mixing silica sand with flexible alkyd resin manufactured by making ester reaction with collected used waste frying oil to make alkyd resin could be applied to road pavement for non-roadway. The results of the study were as follows. In flexural strength, it had 1.6 times as much as road design standard 4.5MPa. In water resistance, chemistry resistance and freezing and thawing resistance, they had lack of strength in early age. As age went by, they didn't have large changes. And curing temperature had phenomenon of increase in strength at rather low temperature than high temperature by glass transition temperature of resin. Therefore, considering workability, strength and durability when it was applied to road pavement, it was reasonable that the mixing ratio of flexible alkyd resin was 10~15% in comparison with silica sand weight.

  • This study was to establish 3 levels of high fineness fly ash like 4000, 6000, and 8000 class and 30% replacement ratio in order to analyze mechanics and shrinkage properties of concrete by using high fineness fly ash. Furthermore, this study was to make a plan in two levels of water-binder ratio like 40% and 50%. In addition, as a result of measurement by the establishment of combined condition of ternary system as 20% replacement ratio level of three sorts of ground granulated blast furnace slag, there was a tendency to be equal or higher to the plain concrete as the fineness of fly ash increased in strength property. Simultaneously, this study had a tendency in the relationship between the compressive strength and elastic modulus that the more the fineness of fly ash, the more the elastic modulus increased a little. In addition, this study had a tendency that the more elastic modulus moved to the long-term aged one, the more it increased definitely. The effect on the fineness of fly ash remained at a low level in the drying shrinkage. This study has shown that the more the fineness increased, the more the elastic modulus decreased.

  • Recently, the public interest in eco-friendly material and structure has been increasing and many Hwang-toh researches are being actively performed. Hwang-toh is one of the traditional environment friendly construction materials used as a construction and plastering material. Hwang-toh has many advantages as construction material due to its high heat storage capacity, auto-purification, antibiotic ability, and infrared ray emission characteristics. But, currently it has not been developed into construction material and used in modern construction due to its low strength and dry shrinkage cracking prone characteristics. According to the recent researches and study results, Hwang-toh can be used as a natural pozzolanic material like fly-ash or pozzolan. In this study, mechanical properties and structural flexure behavior experiments of slag, recycled PET fiber, and Hwang-toh added concrete are carried out. The test results showed that drying shrinkage of concrete mixed with Hwang-toh has lower compressive strength and elastic modulus than those of control cement concrete specimen, but it has the similar flexural behavior in reinforced concrete beams.

  • In this study, carbon fiber and coated glass fiber are applied to warp and weft fiber in order to reduce the amount of carbon fiber used in carbon fiber fabrics, which are often used for reinforcement of building structures. A low-cost thermoplastic resin was coated on glass fibers to prepare a shape-stabilizing glass fiber. A unidirectional carbon fiber sheet was manufactured using the prepared coated glass fiber and carbon fiber. In order to identify whether it can be used for reinforcing architectural and civil structures, it was attached to a concrete specimen and its mechanical properties were analyzed. The optimum manufacturing conditions for the coated glass fiber were 0.3 mm in diameter of the coating nozzle, the coating temperature was 190 ℃, and the coating speed was 0.3 m/s. 14 mm was optimal for the weft spacing of the coated glass fiber. The flexural strength of the concrete reinforced with the manufactured unidirectional carbon fiber sheet was slightly lower than that of the concrete reinforced with carbon fiber fabric, but it was confirmed that the reinforcement effect was better when the amount of carbon fiber was considered.

  • Ten high-strength concrete beam specimens, which have various combinations of different types of flexural reinforcement and short fibers were constructed and tested. Six beams were reinforced with two layers of steel, CFRP, and GFRP bar combinations. The other four beams were reinforced with two layers of single type CFRP and GFRP bars, with steel and synthetic short fibers. An investigation was performed on the influence of the parameters on the load-carrying capacity, post cracking stiffness, cracking pattern, deflection behavior, and ductility. The low post cracking stiffness, large deflection, deep crack propagation, large crack width, and low ductility of FRP bar-reinforced beams were controlled and improved by positioning steel bars in the inner layer of the FRP bar layer. In addition, the addition of fibers increased the first-cracking load, ultimate flexural strength, and ductility as well as the deep propagating cracks were controlled in the FRP bar-reinforced concrete beams. The increased ultimate concrete strain of fiber-reinforced concrete should be determined and considered when FRP bar-reinforced concrete members with fibers are designed.
