Recently, standby power reduction techniques of AC/DC adaptor were developed, consuming power almost arrived to 300mW level. The standby power losses are composed of the input filter loss 11.8mW, the control IC for AC/DC adaptor 18mW, the switching loss 9.53mW and the feedback loss 123mW. And there are the standby power reduction techniques. In this paper, in order to reduce the standby power of SMPS more, the loss due to a voltage difference between input and output is reduced by the control circuit which is composed of the low voltage driving circuit and voltage regulator. The low voltage driving circuit operates on the low voltage of input and off the high voltage. The low voltage driving IC was produced by the $1.0{\mu}m$, high voltage DMOS process.

In this paper, a low loss magnetic levitation(Maglev) system is suggested and tested. The suggested Maglev system includes four hybrid magnets which consist of permanent magnet and coil. In the steady state, the levitated module system can be supported by attraction force generated by permanent magnet. The coil current controls only dynamic loads due to external disturbances. The module systems are designed by using finite element method(FEM) software tools such as MAXWELL and ANSYS. Also, digital control systems are designed to keep the magnet airgap at a constant value. The control systems include a VME(versa module europa)-based CPU(central processing unit) board, AD(analog to digital) board, PWM(pulse width modulation) board, 4-quadrant chopper, and sensors. In order to estimate the vertical velocity of the magnet, we use second order state observer with acceleration and gap signals as input and output signals, respectively. The characteristics of the suggested low loss Maglev system are demonstrated by experimental results showing coil current of 0A in the steady state of 3m airgap and performance specifications are satisfied for reference gap and force disturbance.
We report low conversion loss and high LO to RF isolation 94 GHz MMIC resistive mixers based on 0.1 ${\mu}m$ InGaAs/InAlAs/GaAs metamorphic HEMT technology. The fabricated resistive mixers applied a one-stage amplifier on RF port of the mixer. By using the one-stage amplifier, we obtained the decrement of conversion loss and the increment of LO to RF isolation. So, we can obtain higher performances than conventional resistive mixers. The modified mixer shows excellent conversion loss of 6.7 dB at a LO power of 10 dBm. We also observed an extremely high isolation characteristic from the MMICs exhibiting the LO-RF isolation of 21 ${\pm}$ 0.5dB in a frequency range of 93.7${\sim}$ 94.3 GHz. The low conversion loss and high LO-RF isolation characteristics of the MMIC modified resistive mixers are mainly attributed to the performance of the MHEMTs exhibiting a maximum transconductance of 654 mS/mm, a current gain cut-off frequency of 173 GHz and a maximum oscillation frequency of 271 GHz.
As the low power GPS signal is susceptible to interference, interference can seriously degrade the performance of GPS receiver. This paper designs a ANIEF(Adaptive Narrowband Interference Excision in Frequency domain) filter that removes narrow band interferences with low signal loss. This filter uses the pre-correlation technique and attempts to filter out the interference in the frequency domain. The interference excision performance of the designed filter is evaluated for various interferences using the ANIEF filter inserted GPS software receiver and the interference generator. Interferences considered in this paper are single-tone CWI(Continuous Wave Interference), multi-tones CWI, pulsed CWI, and swept CWI. The narrowband interference excision filter in frequency domain is very effective against various interferences and the strong interference with a simple structure. However, the signal power loss is unavoidable while transforming. In this paper, the hamming window and overlap technique are adopted to reduce the signal power loss. Finally, the interference excision performance and the reduced signal power loss of the ANIEF filter are shown.

Systematic experiments in $CH_4/Air$ counterflow diffusion flames diluted with He have been undertaken to study the oscillatory instability in which lateral flame size was less than burner nozzle diameter and thus lateral heat loss could be remarkable at low global strain rate. The oscillatory instability arises for Lewis numbers greater than unity and occurs near extinction condition. The oscillation is the direct outcome from the advancing and retreating edge flame. The dynamic behaviors of extinction in this configuration can be classified into three modes; growing, harmonic and decaying oscillation mode near extinction. As the global strain rate decreases, the amplitude of the oscillation becomes larger. This is caused by the increase of lateral heat loss which can be confirmed by the reduction of lateral flame size. Oscillatory edge flame instabilities at low global strain rate are shown to be closely associated with not only Lewis number but also heat loss (radiation and lateral heat loss).

Experiments in low strain rate methane-air counterflow diffusion flames diluted with $CO_2$ have been conducted to investigate the flame extinction behavior and edge flame oscillation in which flame length is less than the burner diameter and thus lateral conductive heat loss in addition to radiative loss could be remarkable at low global strain rates. The critical mole fraction at flame extinction is examined in terms of velocity ratio and global strain rate. It is seen that flame length is closely relevant to lateral heat loss, and this sheets flame extinction and edge flame oscillation considerably. Lateral heat loss causes flame oscillation even at fuel Lewis number less than unity. Edge flame oscillations are categorized into three: a growing-, a harmonic- and a decaying-oscillation mode. Onset conditions of the edge flame oscillation and the relevant modes are examined with global strain rate and $CO_2$ mole fraction in fuel stream. A flame stability map based on the flame oscillation modes is also provided at low strain rate flames.
In this paper, we have presented techniques to reduce the splicing loss between standard single mode fiber and high ${\Delta}$ single mode fiber based on the mode expanding and mode evolution induced by thermal treatment of the fibers. The experimental results show that mechanical splicing loss can be reduced from 2.3 dB to 0.1 dB through proper thermal treatment of the high ${\Delta}$ fiber. Meanwhile, we achieved $0.2{\sim}0.4dB$ of low splicing loss between two fibers by heating the splicing region using electric arcing or an oxygen flame.
Silicone oils used insulating substances exhibit the both of organic and inorganic properties, and it has many superior characteristics such as the high thermal resistance and low thermal oxidation level when compared to other insulation oils. In order to investigate the dielectric loss due to the increase of viscosity, silicone oils of viscosity 1, 2, 5[cSt] had been chosen as the specimen and experiment has been performed in the temperature range of -70[.deg. C] - 65[.deg. C] and frequency range of 30 - 1*10$\^$5/[Hz]. As a result, the linear decrease of loss at low frequency region in high temperature was due to the influence of applying frequency, whereas the increase of loss at high frequency region was contributed by electrode's resistance. And increasing viscosity, the activation energy increased from 3.77[kcal/mole] to 7.21[kcal/mole]. The dipole moment of specimen was become clear 1.48 - 2.26[debyel in high temperature region(5 - 65[.deg. C]) and 1.05 - 1.80[debye] in low temperature region (-70 - -25[.deg. C])respectively.
We apply a "sliding-window" Maximum Likelihood(ML) estimator to estimate traffic parameters On-Off source and develop a method for estimating stochastic predicted individual cell arrival rates. Based on these results, we propose a simple Connection Admission Control(CAC)scheme for delay sensitive services in broadband onboard packet switching satellite systems. The algorithms are motivated by the limited onboard satellite buffer, the large propagation delay, and low computational capabilities inherent in satellite communication systems. We develop an algorithm using the predicted individual cell loss ratio instead of using steady state cell loss ratios. We demonstrate the CAC benefits of this approach over using steady state cell loss ratios as well as predicted total cell loss ratios. We also derive the predictive saturation probability and the predictive cell loss ratio and use them to control the total number of connections. Predictive congestion control mechanisms allow a satellite network to operate in the optimum region of low delay and high throughput. This is different from the traditional reactive congestion control mechanism that allows the network to recover from the congested state. Numerical and simulation results obtained suggest that the proposed predictive scheme is a promising approach for real time CAC.

The dynamic behaviors of counterflow non-premixed flame have been investigated experimentally to study effects of heat losses on edge flame oscillation, which result from the advancing and retreating edge flame motion of outer flame edge at low strain rate flame. For low strain rate flame, lateral conduction heat loss in addition to radiation heat loss could be more remarkable than the others. Oscillatory instabilities appear at fuel Lewis number greater than unity. But excessive lateral conduction heat loss causes edge flame instability even at fuel Lewis number less than unity. The dramatic change of burner diameters in which flame length is an indicator of lateral conduction heat loss was applied to examine the onset condition of edge flame oscillation and flame oscillation modes. Especially, extinction behaviors quite different from the previous study were observed.
