  • This paper reports the characteristics of the three dimensional turbulent flow by numerical method in the 180 degree bends with increasing cross-sectional area. Calculated pressure and velocity, Reynolds stress distributions are compared to the experimental data. Turbulence model employed are low Reynolds number $textsc{k}$-$\varepsilon$ model and algebraic stress model(ASM). The results show that the main vortex generated from the inlet part of the bend maintained to outlet of the bend and vortices are continually developed at the inner wall region. The distribution of turbulent kinetic energy along the bend are increase up to 120$^{\circ}$ because of increment of cross-sectional area. Secondary flow strength of the flow is lower about 60% than that of square duct flow.

  • The performance of the evaporation facility of low radioactive liquid waste is studied experimentally. The evaporation facility comprises storage pools, feeding pumps, evaporation units with 1,040 sheets of cloth and air handling units. As the results of this study, it is found that the evaporation rate increases as the waste feed rate increases, the relative humidity of induced air decreases, and the air velocity increases. The modified Dalton's evaporation equation derived from experimental data is $E_h=(0.0168+0.0141V){\Delta}H$. The optimum operating conditions of the evaporation facility are waste feed rate of $4.5./hr.m^2$ and air velocity of 1.47m/sec.

  • On the dynamic behavior of a simple beam subjected to an uniformly distributed tangential follower force, the influences of the velocities and magnitudes of a moving mass have been studied by numerical method. The instant amplitude of a simple beam is calculated and analyzed for each position of the moving mass represented by the time functions. The uniformly distributed tangential follower force is considered within its critical value of a simple beam, and four values of velocity is also chosen. Their coupling effects on the deflections of a simple beam are inspected too. When a moving mass moves after middle zone of a simple beam at the low velocities, its deflection is increased by the coupling of an uniformly distributed tangential follower force and moving mass.

  • Low frequency sound propagation in a range-dependent shallow water environment of the Korea Strait has been studied by using the adiabatic coupled mode, ADIAB. The range-dependent environment is unique in terms of horizontal variations of sound velocity profiles, sediment thickness and attenuation coefficients and water depths. For shallow source and receiver depths, the most important mechanism involved in the propagation loss is the depth changing character of mode functions that strongly depends on the local sound velocity profile. Application of the adiabatic coupled mode theory to shallow water environment is reasonable when higher modes are attenuated due to bottom interaction effects. • A simple Couette flow velocity profile with an appropriate correlation for the free terminal rise velocity of a single bubble in a quiescent liquid can produce reliable results for the trajectories of small spherical air bubbles in a low-viscosity liquid (water) provided the liquid remains under uniform shear flow. Comparison of the model adopted in this paper with published results has been accomplished. Based on this study it has also been found that the lift coefficient in water is higher than its typical value in a high-viscosity liquid and therefore a modified correlation for the lift coefficient in a uniform shear flow of water within the regime of the $E\ddot{o}tv\ddot{o}s$ number $0.305{\leq}Eo{\leq}1.22$ is also presented.

  • In this paper deals with behavior of the magnetic abrasive using sludge on polishing characteristics in a new internal finishing of seamless stainless steel tube applying magnetic abrasive polishing. The magnetic abrasive using sludge-abrasive grain WA and GC used to resin bond fabricated low temperature. And sludge of magnetic abrasive powder fabricated that sludge was crused into 200 mesh. The previous research have made an experiment in the static state the movement of magnetic abrasive grain is nevertheless in the dynamic state. In this paper, We could have investigated into the changes of the movement of magnetic abrasive grain. In reference to this result, we could have made the experiment which is set under the condition of the magnetic flux density, polishing velocity according to the form of magnetic brush.

  • This paper aims to present the design and performance evaluation of a counter-rotating tidal turbine using CFD and to compare its performance with single rotor. The device scale is 10kW and the rotating part consists of two rotors which rotate in opposite direction. Compared with conventional single rotor, the counter-rotating system shows higher power efficiency at high stream velocity but lower efficiency at low stream velocity. The added counter-rotated rotor together helps improve the energy absorption capacity but has influence on the upstream rotor that reduces its performance. In terms of power capture, the designed counter-rotating tidal turbine is more advantageous in high speed tidal condition.

  • The correlation between mass of Type Ia Supernova (SN Ia) host galaxies and Hubble residual is now well-established. The origin of this relation, however, is yet to be understood. We have used low-resolution spectra of early-type hosts from YONSEI (YOnsei Nearby Supernovae Evolution Investigation) project to measure central velocity dispersion and Lick/IDS absorption indices. By using the Evolutionary Population Synthesis (EPS) models, luminosity-weighted mean age and metallicity of host galaxies were determined from $H{\beta}$ and absorption lines. Here we will discuss the correlation between the velocity dispersion, which indicates the mass of galaxies, and mean age of stellar population in our sample of early-type host galaxies.

  • Penetrator with enhanced lateral effect(PELE) is a newconcept projectile, without dynamite and fuze. It consists of high-density jacket, closed at its rear end and filled with a low-density filling material. To study the explosion characteristics of PELE, by AUTODYN-3D code, the calculation models of projectile body and bullet target are established and the process of penetrating aluminum-2024 alloy target of PELE is simulated, and the scattering characteristics after penetrating aluminum-2024 alloy target of PELE are studied by different initial velocity. The explicit finite element analysis of PELE fragmentation was implemented with stochastic failure criterion in AUTODYN-3D code. As expansion of filling, the fragments were obtained velocities and dispersed laterally and further more enhancing the damage area largely. The number and shape of the PELE fragments were different depend on impact velocity and incidence angle of filling which fragment generated during penetration and lateral dispersion process.
