  • The experimental investigation of thermal response characteristics by the air flow through the porous media has been carried out. The packed spheres of steel or glass were considered as the porous media in the present study. Temperature distributions of the fluid in the porous media as well as pressure drops through the porous media were measured. The transient temperature variations in the porous media are compared favorably with the analytical results in the high Reynolds number ranges. However, in the low Reynolds number ranges, the experimental data deviate from the analytical results, due to the dominant heat conduction penetration to the upstream direction, which is not considered in the analytical model. The cool-down response of porous media is found to be dependent upon the specific dimensionless time considering the material property and air velocity. The heat discharge process is recommended to be operated until a certain time, considering the cost efficiency.

  • Experimental study was performed for free convection and ice formation around two horizontal circular tubes which were placed vertically. Temperature and velocity distributions were visualized with real time holographic interferometry technique and tracer method. When water was cooled, super cooled region was formed around cooling pipe. It was found that flow induced by free convection always directed downwards when the coolant temperature was low, while it directed upwards when the coolant temperature was comparably high though it directed downwards initially. Flow phenomena with free convection were investigated in detail with varying cooling rate and length between cooling pipes. And growing process of dense ice was also investigated. Dendritic ice is suddenly formed within a supercooled region, and a dense ice layer begins to develop from the cooling wall.

  • A potential use of superplasticizing admixture is to produce structural concrete of High-strength concrete,. By using a superplasticizer, more workable mixes can be achieved while permitting a high cement content and a low water/cement ratio both of which are necessary to obtain high strength by conventional manufacturing technique. In this study, therefore, high strength concrete having a 28-day strength in excess of 650kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ can be obtained using a superplasticzer. However, before such a high strength concrete is recommended for use, engineering properties have to be assessed. This study is aimed to analyze and investigate the engineering properties, such as strength, elasticity, ultrasonic pulse velocity, rebound value of superplasticized concrete having a various cement content.

  • We study the orbital histories of Virgo galaxies undergoing different HI gas stripping stages using phase-space diagrams. Based on the HI properties of galaxies, we find that location of galaxies is in good agreement with ram-pressure stripping predicted by numerical simulations with different infall time. For example, galaxies experiencing active gas stripping are mostly found in the first infall region showing high velocity with respect to the cluster center. Meanwhile, most galaxies that are likely to have lost gas a while ago are found in the cluster outskirts with low orbital velocities. We also discuss the cases where observational properties of galaxies and their locations in the phase-space do not well agree. In addition, we probe the phase-space of filaments and subgroups around or within Virgo. Our results strongly suggest that substructures can play important roles in galaxy evolution while galaxies are falling to the cluster.

  • An experimental study was carried out to investigate the emission characteristics of LP gas burner for the Practical combustion conditions including fm voltage, inlet area, gas Pressure, emission resistance, duct length and height. The result shows that CO is almost remains constant for the emission fan voltage, but significantly increases with the reduction rate of air inlet, up to 3000ppm at 50% of reduction rate. Also, the variation of gas pressure has no effect to CO of gas boiler due to its governor which controls gas pressure secondly, but it gives an rapid increase of CO for the gas range. The emission resistance test shows that CO is suddenly increased with the reduction rate of emission duct above 70% and main burner is stopped at 90%. The reverse wind test shows that CO is suddenly increased with the air velocity above 7m/s and main burner is stopped at 9m/s. The more horizontal length of emission duct is long and the vertical height is low, CO is infinitesimally increased.

  • GPS is widely used in various applications since GPS receivers are capable of measuring precise position and velocity in any weather condition for a relatively low cost. However, GPS requires more than four simultaneously visible GPS satellites for optimal performance. In high-motion, high-attitude-changing applications, there exist some situations where less than four satellites are visible or where the dilution of precision (DOP) is high. In this paper, we propose a simulation algorithm that predicts the performance of GPS navigation according to changes in vehicle attitude. We have compared simulation results with experimental results, where simulation results of the proposed algorithm are shown to closely match actual experimental data. This algorithm could be used to predict GPS navigational performance and to determine optimal GPS antenna position.

  • A design of CPS attitude determination system is described in this paper. The designed system is a low cost high precision 24 channel single frequency GPS(Global Positioning System) receiver which provides a precise absolute heading and pitch (or roll) as well as a position. It uses commercial chip-set and consists of two RF parts, two signal-tracking parts, a processor, memory parts and I/Os. In order to determine precise attitude, accurate carrier phase measurements and an efficient integer ambiguity resolution method are required. To meet these requirements, a PLL (Phase Locked Loops) is designed, and an algorithm called ARCE (Ambiguity Resolution with Constraint Equation) is adopted. The hardware and software structure of the system will be described, and the performance evaluated under various conditions will be presented. The test results will promise that more reliable navigation system be possible because the system provides all navigational information such as position, velocity, time and attitude.

  • We investigated the effect of process temperature on removal rate and non-uniformity based on single head kinematics in oxide CMP. Generally, it has been known that the temperature profile directly transfers to the non~uniformity of removal rate on the wafer, which has similar tendency with the sliding distance of wafer. Experimental results show that platen velocity is a dominant factor in removal rate as well as average temperature. However, the non-uniformity does not coincide between process temperature and removal rate, due to slurry accumulation and low deviation of temperature. Resultantly, the removal rate is strongly dependent on the rotational speed of platen, and its non -uniformity is controlled by the rotational speed of polishing head. It means lower WIWNU (With-in-wafer-non-uniformity) can be achieved in the region of higher head speed.

  • Flow over a circular cylinder is studied numerically using a turbulence model. Based on the κ-ε-f/sub μ/ model of Park and Sung[6], a new damping function is used. The efficiency of the strain dependent damping function is addressed for vortex-shedding flows past a circular cylinder. The mean velocity and Reynolds stresses are compared with available experimental data at Re/sub D/= 3900. Also, the computational results for the Strouhal number are evaluated at several Reynolds number. The predictions by κ-ε-f/sub μ/ model are in good agreement with the experiments.

  • Impact tester was build up to evaluate the characterization of CFRP laminate plates under the low velocity impact. The tests were conducted on several laminates of different ply orientation A system was budded for the impact strength of CFRP laminates in consideration of stress wave propagation theory using drop-weight impact tester as one of impact test. Results indicate that absorbed energy of quasi-isotropic specimen having four interfaces is higher than that of orthotropic laminates with two interfaces. Also the damage area was measured with ultrasonic C-scanner on some samples. In the specimens the relationship was linear between damaged area and absorbed energy to some degree. Absorbed energy in the specimen that ply number, interface number and fiber stacking sequences is same but having hybrid is higher than that of orthotropic laminates without hybrid.
