Self flue gas recirculation flow is an effective method for low NOx emission in a regenerative low NOx burner. The object of this study is to analyze self flue gas recirculating flow by varying the jet velocity of the combustion air. Fuel and air flow rates are fixed and combustion air jet nozzle diameters are 13, 6.5 and 5mm. The stoichiometric line is obtained from the concentration of fuel using the acetone PLIF technique. It is found that self flue gas recirculating flow is entrained into that line using the two color PIV technique. As the jet velocity of combustion air is increased, the flue gas entrainment rate into the stoichiometric line is increased. This result suggests that NOx emission can be reduced due to the effects of flue gas lowering the flame temperature.
Mild combustion or Flameless oxidation(FLOX) have been considered as one of the most prospective clean-combustion technologies to meet both the targets of high process efficiency and low pollutant emissions. A mild combustor with high air preheating and strong internal exhaust gas recirculation is characterized by relatively low flame temperature, low NOx emissions, no visible flame and no sound. In this study, the Steady Flamelet Approach has been applied to numerically analyze the combustion processes and NOx formation in the mild combustor. The detailed discussion has been made f3r the basic characteristics of mild combustor, numerical results and limitation of the present combustion modeling.
The purpose of the research is to investigate of diesel spray combustion for simultaneously reduction way of NOx and PM. The diesel injection were done into intermediates that are generated by very lean DME HCCI combustion using a RCM. The concentration of intermediate could not be directly measured, so we estimated it by CHEMKIN calculation. Two dimensional spontaneous luminescence images which are created by chemical species reaction at low temperature reaction (LTR) and high temperature reaction (HTR) are captured by using a framing streak camera. Also, combustion events were observed by high-speed direct photography. The ignition and combustion events were analyzed by pressure profiles and the KL values and flame temperatures were analyzed by the two-color method.
A Compuressible turbulent boundary layer effect of the high temperature, accelerating gas flow through the De-Laval nozzle on combustion chamber pressure is numerically investigated. For this purpose, the coupled momentum integral equation and energy integral equation are solved by the Bartz method, and 1/7 power law for both the turbulent boundary layer velocity distribution and temperature distribution is assumed. As far as the boundary layer thicknesses are concerned, we can obtain reasonable solutions even if relatively simple approximations to the skin friction coefficient and stanton number have been used. The effects of nozzle wall cooling and/or mass flow rate on the boundary layer thicknesses and the combustion chamber pressure are studied. Specifically, negative displacement thickness is appeared as the ratio of the nozzle wall temperature to the stagnation temperature of the free stream decreases, and, consequently, it makes the combustion chamber pressure low.

In the present communication, pure and stable α-Bismuth Oxide (Bi2O3) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by low temperature solution combustion method using urea as a fuel and calcined at 500℃. The synthesized sample was characterized by using powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy. The PXRD pattern confirms the formation of mono-clinic, stable and low temperature phase α-Bi2O3. The direct optical energy band gap was estimated by using Wood and Tauc's relation which was found to be 2.81 eV. The characterized sample was studied for X-ray/gamma ray shielding properties in the energy range 0.081-1.332 MeV using NaI (Tl) detector and multi channel analyzer (MCA). The measured shielding parameters agrees well with the theory, whereas, slight deviation up to 20% is observed below 356 keV. This deviation is mainly due to the influence of atomic size of the target medium. Furthermore an accurate theory is necessary to explain the interaction of X-ray/gamma ray with the NPs.The present work opens new window to use this facile, economical, efficient, low temperature method to synthesize nanomaterials for X-ray/gamma ray shielding purpose.
The purpose of this work is an experimental investigation of combustion and emission characteristics in DI diesel engine applied high EGR rate as a method of low-temperature combustion. In order to analyze the effect of EGR rate variation, a single-cylinder DI diesel engine was operated under various EGR rate conditions. In addition, injection timing was variously controlled to investigate the effect of injection timing in DI diesel engine using the cooled-EGR system. The NOx emissions were decreased in accordance with the increase of EGR rate. On the contrary, soot emissions were generally increased under applied EGR conditions. However, soot emissions were decreased in a few injection timings under high EGR rate conditions. The EGR results show that the ignition delay were increased by decreased oxygen concentrations in combustion chamber under the high EGR rate.
Tungsten and tungsten heavy alloys have widespread application as radiation shielding devices and heavy duty electrical contacts. High density and good room temperature mechanical properties have generated interest in evaluating tungsten and tungsten alloys as kinetic energy penetrators against armor. Nowdays ultra fine-grained tungsten powders are in great interest because higly dense structures can be obtained at low temperature, pressure and lower sintering time. Several physical md chemical methods are available for the synthesis of nanometric metal Powders: ball milling, laser abalation, vapor condensation, chemical precipitation, metallic wire explosion i.e. However production rates of the above mentioned methods are low and further efforts are needed to find out large-scale synthesis methods. From this point of view solid state combustion method ( known as SHS) represents undoubted interest.
Work on the reduction of particulate matter(PM) from a diesel vehicl has led to a new trp system and a control method to control the combustion rate of the PM filtrated in the trap, which was named as 'Active Exhaust Feeding Regeneration(AEFR) System' by its operation mechanism. Ceramic cordierite filter is a major component of the trap and susceptible to thermal shock. Therefore the system should be designed to reduce the peak temperature and temperature gradients in the trap ; these have been considered to be the main factors causing thermal shock of the filter during the regeneration. It uses the engine's exhaust gas partially for the regeneration of the ceramic filter. It controlled bypass flow rate of the engine's exhaust gas precisely to control the temperature of the gas entrained into the filter. Gas temperatures were measured inside filter, and the oxygen concentration at the outlet of the filter was also monitored during the regeneration to analyze the combustion process of the PM. The temperature distributions and temperature gradients in the filter during the regeneration varied widely according to the regeneration control schemes. Finally, this system shows relatively low peak temperature and temperature gradients in the filter during its regeneration. It is considered that this system uses a mew method to control the combustion rate of the PM, which is different from the methods used in the previous studies.
ZrN nanoparticles were prepared by an exothermic reduction of $ZrCl_4$ with $NaN_3$ in the presence of NaCl flux in a nitrogen atmosphere. Using a solid-state combustion approach, we have demonstrated that the zirconium nitride nanoparticles synthesis process can be completed in only several minutes compared with a few hours for previous synthesis approaches. The chemistry of the combustion process is not complex and is based on a metathesis reaction between $ZrCl_4$ and $NaN_3$. Because of the low melting and boiling points of the raw materials it was possible to synthesize the ZrN phase at low combustion temperatures. It was shown that the combustion temperature and the size of the particles can be readily controlled by tuning the concentration of the NaCl flux. The results show that an increase in the NaCl concentration (from 2 to 13 M) results in a temperature decrease from 1280 to $750^{\circ}C$. ZrN nanoparticles have a high surface area (50-70 $m^2/g$), narrow pore size distribution, and nano-particle size between 10 and 30 nm. The activation energy, which can be extracted from the experimental combustion temperature data, is: E = 20 kcal/mol. The method reported here is self-sustaining, rapid, and can be scaled up for a large scale production of a transition metal nitride nanoparticle system (TiN, TaN, HfN, etc.) with suitable halide salts and alkali metal azide.
