It was reported that low temperature plasma developed by our group was apparently homogeneous and stable at atmospheric pressure, and was generated if the alumina was used as a dielectric insulating material and Ar gas as a plasma gas. This is a structure in which the dielectric materials are covered and arranged in parallel in the one side of electrode. In this experiment, we discovered that dielectric material was important to generate normal electric discharge. To examine the effect of dielectric material on the electric discharge characteristic, the voltage and current of the plasma was measured and the electrical effect of dielectric material was examined. Also, it was applied to an etching of tin oxide films.

Discharge property of plasma jet devices is investigated for the application to the doping processes of crystalline solar cells and others. Current-voltage characteristics are shown as the typical normal-glow discharge in the various gas pressure of plasma jets, such as in the atmospheric plasma jets of Ar-discharge, in the ambient pressure of atmospheric discharge, and in the ambient Ar-pressure of Ar-discharge. The discharge voltage of atmospheric plasma jet is required as low as about 2.5 kV while the operation voltage of low pressure below 200 Torr is low as about 1 kV in the discharge of atmospheric and Ar plasma jets. With a single channel plasma jet, the irradiated plasma current on the doped silicon wafer is obtained high as the range of 10~50 mA. The temperature increasement of wafer is normally about $200^{\circ}C$. In the result of silicon wafers doped by phosphoric acid with irradiating the plasma jets, the doping profiles of phosphorus atoms shows the possibility of plasma jet doping on solar cells.
Using the plasma that we developed to generate a low-temperature plasma at atmospheric pressure, we have investigated the etching possibility of tin oxide $(SnO_2)$ thin films. Hydrogen and methane radicals generated from the plasma were observed and their intensity was found to be dependent on the cathode material by an analysis with optical emission spectroscopy as well as by the plasma impedance. The etching ability of this plasma was evaluated by an emission intensity as well as by the evaluation of impedance using a plasma I-V curve.

Using the plasma that we developed to generate a low-temperature plasma at atmospheric pressure, we have investigated the etching possibility of an air-exposed zinc oxide(ZnO) thin films. Hydrogen and methane radicals generated from the plasma were observed and their intensity was found to be dependent on the isomer of butyl acetate by an analysis with optical emission spectrosxopy. The etching ability of this plasma was evaluated by an emission intensity, etching time, rf power.

The granite melting concept, which was suggested by Gibb's group for the closing of a deep borehole, was experimentally checked for KURT granite. The granite melting experiments were performed in two pressure conditions of atmospheric melting with certain inorganic additives and high pressure melting formed by water vaporization. The results of atmospheric tests showed that KURT granite started to melt at a lower temperature of $1,000^{\circ}C$ with NaOH addition and that needle shaped crystals were formed around partially melted crystals. In high pressure tests, vapor pressure was increased by adding water with maximum pressure of about 400 bars. KURT granite was partially melted at $1,000^{\circ}C$ when vapor pressure was low. However, it was not melted at vapor pressures higher than 200 bars. Therefore, it was determined that high pressure with a small amount of water vapor more effectively decreased the melting point of granite. Meanwhile, high temperature and high pressure vapor caused severe corrosion of the reactor wall.
Although the relationship between fermentation and factors such as soil water, redox potential, rootstocks and climatic conditions has been reported, its mechanism of fermentation is still not clear. Transpirations of leaf and fruit at different climatic conditions, influence of soil water potential and atmospheric vapor pressure deficit (VPD) on fermentation were evaluated. Transpiration rate decreased with decreasing soil temperature and soil water potential. Low VPD conditions which occurred during low air temperature and high humidity also decreased transipration rate. These data exhibit that fruit water balance affected by various factors relate to transpiration. Our results also indicate that high hydraulic conductance of root, high soil water potential and low VPD condition exert a significant effect on fermention of oriental melon and so called "water filled fruit".
This study investigates the characteristics of atmospheric circulation and the heat source $(Q_1)$ related to the winter cold surge in Korea from 1979 to 1999. The occurrence frequency of cold surge is about one event per year and $60\%$ of the total events occurred during the former period, before 1989. During the cold surge, the pressure pattern shows more dominant east-west dipole circulation pattern in the lower troposphere and the effect of upper level trough is stronger than normal cases. Temperature falling pattern over Korea shows that the pattern opposite to the temperature structure over Lake Baikal and temperature change has opposite signs between the low-middle level and upper level, with the boundary at 400 hPa. The analysis of heat source shows that atmospheric cooling by cold advection during the cold surge is balanced by adiabatic warming due to downward motion, indicating that the movement path of cold core is associated with that of heat sink. Therefore, the movement mechanism of the heat source and sink should be well known for understanding the maintenance mechanism of cold surge and predicting cold surges.

Low temperature atmospheric pressure plasmas (APPs) have been known to be effective for living cell inactivation in the water [1]. Many earlier research found that pH level of the solution was changed from neutral to acidic after plasma treatment. The importance of the effect of acidity of the solution for cell treatments has already been reported by many experiments. In addition, several studies have demonstrated that the addition of a small amount of oxygen to pure helium results in higher sterilization efficiency of APPs [2]. However, it is not clear yet which species are key factors for the cell treatment. To find key factors, we used GMoo simulation. We elucidate the processes through which pH level in the solution is changed from neutral to acidic after plasma exposure and key components with pH and air variation with using GMoo simulation. First, pH level in a liquid solution is changed by He+ and He(21S) radicals. Second, O3 density decreases as pH level in the solution decreases and air concentration decreases. It can be a method of removing O3 that cause chest pain and damage lung tissue when the density is very high. H2O2, HO2 and NO radicals are found to be key factors for cell inactivation in the solution with pH and air variation.
From the hourly data of 75 Korean weather stations over a 12-year period (2001~2012), this study has chosen three cases (January 12, 2006; January 11, 2008; and February 22, 2009) of multiple freezing rains and investigated the atmospheric circulations that seemed to cause the events. As a result, the receding high pressure type (2006), prevailing high pressure type (2008), and warm front type (2009) are confirmed as synoptic patterns. In all three cases, freezing rain was found in regions with a strong ascending current near the end point of a low-level jet that carried the warm humid air from low latitudes. The strong ascending current resulted from lower-level convergence and upper-level divergence. In 2006 and 2009, the melting process was confirmed. In 2008, the supercooled warm rain process (SWRP) was confirmed. In contrast to existing SWRP theory, it was found that the cool air produced at the middle atmosphere and near the earth's surface led to the formation of freezing rain. The sources of this cool air were supposed to be the evaporative latent heat and the cold advection coming from the northeast. On the other hand, a special case was detected, in which the freezing rain occurred when both the soil surface temperature and surface air temperature were above $0^{\circ}C$. The thickness distributions related to freezing rain in Korea were found to be similar to those in North America. A P-type nomogram was considered for freezing rain forecasting; however, it was not relevant enough to Korea, and few modifications were needed.

The sonolytic decomposition of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC 113) and several alternative compounds, such as HCFC 225ca, HCFC 225cb, and HFC 134a, in.aqueous solutions was investigated. The CFC 113 with a high volatility and a low solubility in water was rapidly decomposed with increasing sonication time. The decomposition rates were influenced by the initial concentration of CFC 113, the reaction temperature, and the gas/liquid phase volume ratio but were independant of the pH of solution. The predominant pathway of the decomposition of CFC 113 by sonication was not the oxidation by OH radicals but the pyrolysis with high temperature and pressure inside of the cavitation bubble. The pyrolysis in the cavitation bubble resulted in an almost complete mineralization of CFC 113 with the high efficient formation of inorganic products (Cl$^{[-10]}$ , F$^{[-10]}$ , CO, $CO_2$). The addition of zinc powder on the decomposition of CFC 113 by sonication caused an acceleration of the decomposition. Also, HCFCs and HFC 134a were found to be readily decomposed by the pyrolysis induced from the sonication.
