In this paper, the low price signal generator with capability of frequency high-resolution and variable sync pulse has implemented. It fulfils well the requirements for SS-OCT of the frequency resolution less than 1Hz, frequency stability of ${\leq}{\pm}0.5Hz$/10 min and variable sync pulse output timing. Through its performance test applied to wavelength swept laser, 120 nm sweeping range and 10 mW average optical power were obtained. This shows that the realized sine-wave generator can replace the commercial high cost and high performance signal generators employed by current SS-OCT systems.
Low and high resolution inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) coupled with ion chromatography (IC) has been investigated for speciation of Cr(III) and Cr(VI). In particular, the interference of ArC^+formed by the carbon in a sample on the simultaneous determination of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) has been studied. In chemical speciation, this study shows that quadrupole type ICP-MS with low resolution has a limitation of simultaneous determination fo chromium species if the sample contains the carbon elements. The interference problems can be solved by high resolution ICP-MS.

In this paper we propose a method that improves PSNR at low bit rate and reduces computational complexity in fractal image coding based on discrete wavelet transform. The proposed method, which uses significant coefficient tree, improves PSNR of the reconstructed image and reduces computational comlexity of mapping domain block onto range block by matching only the significant coefficients of range block to coefficients of domain block. Also, the proposed method reduces error propagation form lower resolution subbands to higher resolution subbands by correcting error of lower resolution subbands. Some experimental results confirm that the proposed method reduces encoding and decoding time significantly and has fine reconstructed images having no blocking effect and clear edges at low bit rate.
In H.264, sub-pel motion estimation (ME) has strong effect when coding video sequences. 1/4-pel performs better at low bitrate while 1/8-pel gives better results at high bitrate. In this paper, a variable sub-pixel motion vector resolution based on block mode motion estimation method is proposed. Experiment results show that the proposed method can take the advantage of 1/4-pel at low bitrate and 1/8-pel at high bitrate. In addition to that, time is reduced from 14% to 53% compared to KTA1.3 with 1/8-pel motion vector (MV) resolution.
Two impedance imaging systems of multi-frequency electrical impedance tomography (MFEIT) and magnetic resonance electrical impedance tomography (MREIT) are described. MFEIT utilizes boundary measurements of current-voltage data at multiple frequencies to reconstruct cross-sectional images of a complex conductivity distribution (${\sigma}+i{\omega}{\varepsilon}$) inside the human body. The inverse problem in MFEIT is ill-posed due to the nonlinearity and low sensitivity between the boundary measurement and the complex conductivity. In MFEIT, we therefore focus on time- and frequency-difference imaging with a low spatial resolution and high temporal resolution. Multi-frequency time- and frequency-difference images in the frequency range of 10 Hz to 500 kHz are presented. In MREIT, we use an MRI scanner to measure an internal distribution of induced magnetic flux density subject to an injection current. This internal information enables us to reconstruct cross-sectional images of an internal conductivity distribution with a high spatial resolution. Conductivity image of a postmortem canine brain is presented and it shows a clear contrast between gray and white matters. Clinical applications for imaging the brain, breast, thorax, abdomen, and others are briefly discussed.

Designing high quality products and processes at a low cost is central technological and economic challenge to the engineer. The combination of engineering concepts and statistical implementations offered by Taguchi\`s off-line design technique has proven t be invaluable. By examining some deficiencies in designs from the Taguchi\`s highly fractional, orthogonal main effect plan based on orthogonal arrays, alternative method is proposed. The maximum resolution or the minimum aberration criterion is commonly used for selecting 2$^{n-m}$ fractional designs. We present new high resolution (low aberration) linear graphs to simplify the complexity of selecting designs with desirable statistical properties. The new linear graphs approach shows a substantial improvement over Taguchi\`s linear graphs and other related graphical methods for planning experiment. The new set of linear graphs will allow the experimenter to maintain the simple approach suggested by Taguchi while obtaining the best statistical properties of the resulting design such as minimum aberration as a by-product without dependency on complicated computational algorithm or additional statistical training.g.
Change detection technology, which discovers the change information on the surface of the earth by comparing and analyzing multi-temporal satellite images, can be usefully applied to the various fields, such as environmental inspection, urban planning, forest policy, updating of geographical information and the military usage. In this paper, we introduce a change detection system that can extract and analyze change elements from high-resolution satellite imagery as well as low- or middle-resolution satellite imagery. The developed system provides not only 7 pixelbased methods that can be used to detect change from low- or middle-resolution satellite images but also a float window concept that can be used in manual change detection from highresolution satellite images. This system enables fast access to the very large image, because it is constituted by OGC grid coverage components. Also new change detection algorithms can be easily added into this system if once they are made into grid coverage components.
It is inferred that many stars in the Galactic halo or bulge were once members of globular clusters (GCs), which are now dissolved. To distinguish the GC-originated stars, which can provide valuable information on the origin of the bulge and halo, from the in situ field stars, the Na abundance plays an important role. However, the interstellar Na in certain directions can unnecessarily enhance the estimate of the Na abundance from stellar spectra due to blended Na D lines unless the spectral resolution is very high, which allows to resolve the lines from the interstellar Na. In this study, we present a means of correcting the Na abundance affected by the interstellar Na in the low-resolution of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey stellar spectra.
Intracluster light (ICL) is composed of the stars diffused throughout the galaxy cluster but does not bound to any galaxy. The ICL is a ubiquitous feature of galaxy clusters and occupies a significant fraction of the total stellar mass in the cluster. Therefore, the ICL components are believed to help understand the formation and evolution of the clusters. However, in the numerical study, one needs to perform the high-resolution cosmological hydrodynamic simulations, which require an expensive calculation, to trace these low-surface brightness structures (LSB). Here, we introduce the Galaxy Replacement Technique (GRT) that focuses on implementing the gravitational evolution of the diffused ICL structures without the expensive baryonic physics. The GRT reproduces the ICL structures by a multi-resolution cosmological N-body re-simulation using a full merger tree of the cluster from a low-resolution DM-only cosmological simulation and an abundance matching model. Using the GRT, we show the preliminary results about the evolution of the ICL in the on-going simulations for the various clusters.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to apply a newly developed free software program, at low cost and with minimal time, to evaluate the quality of dental and maxillofacial cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Materials and Methods: A polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) phantom, CQP-IFBA, was scanned in 3 CBCT units with 7 protocols. A macro program was developed, using the free software ImageJ, to automatically evaluate the image quality parameters. The image quality evaluation was based on 8 parameters: uniformity, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), noise, the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), spatial resolution, the artifact index, geometric accuracy, and low-contrast resolution. Results: The image uniformity and noise depended on the protocol that was applied. Regarding the CNR, high-density structures were more sensitive to the effect of scanning parameters. There were no significant differences between SNR and CNR in centered and peripheral objects. The geometric accuracy assessment showed that all the distance measurements were lower than the real values. Low-contrast resolution was influenced by the scanning parameters, and the 1-mm rod present in the phantom was not depicted in any of the 3 CBCT units. Smaller voxel sizes presented higher spatial resolution. There were no significant differences among the protocols regarding artifact presence. Conclusion: This software package provided a fast, low-cost, and feasible method for the evaluation of image quality parameters in CBCT.
