  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of deep neural network model in order to determine whether there is a risk factor for coronary artery disease based on the cardiac variation parameter. The study used unidentifiable 297 data to evaluate the performance of the model. Input data consists of heart rate parameters, which are SDNN (standard deviation of the N-N intervals), PSI (physical stress index), TP (total power), VLF (very low frequency), LF (low frequency), HF (high frequency), RMSSD (root mean square of successive difference) APEN (approximate entropy) and SRD (successive R-R interval difference), the age group and sex. Output data are divided into normal and patient groups, and the patient group consists of those diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, and hyperlipidemia among the various risk factors that can cause coronary artery disease. Based on this, a binary classification model was applied using Deep Neural Network of deep learning techniques to classify normal and patient groups efficiently. To evaluate the effectiveness of the model used in this study, Kernel SVM (support vector machine), one of the classification models in machine learning, was compared and evaluated using same data. The results showed that the accuracy of the proposed deep neural network was train set 91.79% and test set 85.56% and the specificity was 87.04% and the sensitivity was 83.33% from the point of diagnosis. These results suggest that deep learning is more efficient when classifying these medical data because the train set accuracy in the deep neural network was 7.73% higher than the comparative model Kernel SVM.

  • High temperature superconducting(HTS) power cable is expected to be used for power transmission lines supplying electric power for densely populated cities in the near future. Since HTS power cable is capable of the high current density delivery with low power loss, the cable size can be compact comparing with the conventional cable whose capacity is same. In this paper, the authors propose the real time simulation method which puts a teal HTS wire into the simulated 22.9 kV utility grid system using Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS). For the simulation analysis, test sample of HTS wire was actually manufactured. And the transient phenomenon of the HTS wire was analyzed in the simulated utility power grid. This simulation method is the world first trial in order to obtain much better data for installation of HTS power device into utility network.

  • Wireless sensor networks consist of thousands of sensor nodes that have low power, low footprint and low computational capacities. So the burning issues in the design and deployment of these sensor nodes in the practical application areas include the energy conservation and network lifetime. Efficient routing schemes can help reduce the energy consumption and thus increase the network lifetime. This paper deals with the comparative analysis of popular routing protocols such as LEACH, LEACH-C, MTE, and PEGASIS. The protocols are compared by using performance me tries such as system lifetime, the time for first node death, and total system energy.

  • The realization of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs) has been fostered by the availability of low cost and low power CMOS devices. However, the transmission of bulk video data requires adequate bandwidth, which cannot be promised by single path communication on an intrinsically low resourced sensor network. Moreover, the distortion or artifacts in the video data and the adherence to delay threshold adds to the challenge. In this paper, we propose a two stage Quality of Service (QoS) guaranteeing scheme called Prioritized Multipath WMSN (PMW) for transmitting H.264 encoded video. Multipath selection based on QoS metrics is done in the first stage, while the second stage further prioritizes the paths for sending H.264 encoded video frames on the best available path. PMW uses two composite metrics that are comprised of hop-count, path energy, BER, and end-to-end delay. A color-coded assisted network maintenance and failure recovery scheme has also been proposed using (a) smart greedy mode, (b) walking back mode, and (c) path switchover. Moreover, feedback controlled adaptive video encoding can smartly tune the encoding parameters based on the perceived video quality. Computer simulation using OPNET validates that the proposed scheme significantly outperforms the conventional approaches on human eye perception and delay.

  • This paper presents a low-cost remote power-quality-failure monitoring system (RPMS) using Android App and TI MCU (micro-controller unit), which is appliable to a micro-grid. The designed RPMS testbed consists of smart nodes, a server, and Android APPs. Especially, the C2000-series MCU-based RPMS smart node that is low-cost compared to existing monitoring systems has both a signal processing function for power signal processing and a data transmission function for power-quality monitoring data transmission. The signal processing function implements both a wavelet-based power failure detection algorithm including sag, swell, and interruption, and a FFT-based power failure detection algorithm including harmonics such that reliable and real-time power quality monitoring is guaranteed. The data transmission function implements a low-complexity RPMS transmission protocol and defines a simple data format (msg_Diag) for power monitoring message transmission. We may watch the monitoring data in real time both at a server and Android phone Apps connected to the WiFi network (or WAN). We use RS-232 (or Bluetooth) as the wired (or wireless) communication media between a server and nodes. We program the RPMS power-quality-failure monitoring algorithm using C language in the CCS (Code Composer Studio) 3.3 environment.

  • Due to high levels of integration and complexity, the Network-on-Chip (NoC) approach has emerged as a new design paradigm to overcome on-chip communication issues and data bandwidth limits in conventional SoC(System-on-Chip) design. In particular, exponentially growing of energy consumption caused by high frequency, synchronization and distributing a single global clock signal throughout the chip have become major design bottlenecks. To deal with these issues, a globally asynchronous, locally synchronous (GALS) design combined with low power techniques is considered. Such a design style fits nicely with the concept of voltage-frequency-islands (VFI) which has been recently introduced for achieving fine-grain system-level power management. In this paper, we propose an efficient design methodology that minimizes energy consumption by VFI partitioning on an NoC architecture as well as assigning supply and threshold voltage levels to each VFI. The proposed algorithm which find VFI and appropriate core (or processing element) supply voltage consists of traffic-aware core graph partitioning, communication contention delay-aware tile mapping, power variation-aware core dynamic voltage scaling (DVS), power efficient VFI merging and voltage update on the VFIs Simulation results show that average 10.3% improvement in energy consumption compared to other existing works.

  • Wireless ad hoc network composed of low power devices has been operated in ISM bands. However, with the growing proliferation of wireless services, these bands are increasingly getting congested. In order to relieve the spectrum scarcity and inefficient spectrum utilization, ad ho cognitive radio was proposed. In this paper we propose the efficient spectrum sensing method to reduce power consumption and detect white space in ad hoc cognitive radio system. The wireless channel between a licensed user and CR systems is modeled as Gaussian channel, the distance between a licensed user and CR systems is assumed differently. Also, the wireless channel among CR systems is assumed as the perfect channel and the distance among CR systems is assumed close distance. CR systems sense the spectrum of the licensed user by using a energy detection method. From the simulation results, spectrum sensing performance of combining sensing result of CR systems with high received energy shows higher than combining sensing result of all CR systems and we can refer to the proposed sensing method in order to perform effective spectrum sensing with low power consumption.

  • The main challenge in designing wearable WBANs is to guarantee the balance of QoS demands in the network with the low power constraints of limited battery powered nodes. Low power devices implanted in or attached to the body should be designed to meet minimum energy requirements due to their limited battery life and be small in size to be easily wearable. In this paper, we propose a method for optimizing channel allocation method that is compatible with the IEEE 802.15.6 standard, enables the maximum amount of power charge at idle, guarantees the QoS of a WBAN, and provides the reliable date transmission between nodes and hubs in the network. Our extensive simulations will show that the method we propose not only maximizes the QoS in packet transmission but also improves the level of energy efficiency.

  • This paper proposes a low power capacitor cross-coupled 5.2 GHz band low noise amplifier(LNA) using the current-reused topology with the TSMC 0.18 ${\mu}m$ CMOS process. The proposed 5.2 GHz band LNA uses a capacitor cross-coupled $g_m$-boosting method for reducing current flow of circuit and a current-reused topology to decrease total power dissipation. The parallel LC networks are used to reduce size of spiral inductors. The simulation results show high gain of 17.4 dB and noise figure(NF) of 2.7 dB for 5.2 GHz.
