Heat pump drying has a great potential for energy saving due to its high energy efficiency in comparison to conventional air drying. The heat pump dryer is usually operated at the temperature less than $50^{\circ}C$ and the drying temperature is limited to the operating temperature of the heat pump system. In order to increase the drying temperature, the special box-type heat pump dryer has been developed. The dryer uses the two-cycle heat pump system which has the two heat pump cycles for high and low temperature heating. The high temperature cycle uses the refrigerant 124 to get the temperature greater than $80^{\circ}C$ and the low temperature cycle uses the refrigerant 134a. The drying experiment has been carried out to figure out the performance of the dryer with the selected drying material.
Synthesis graphene on Cu substrate by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PE-CVD) is investigated and its quality's affection factors are discussed in this work. Compared with the graphene synthesized at high temperature in chemical vapor deposition (CVD), the low-temperature graphene film by PE-CVD has relatively low quality with many defects. However, the advantage of low-temperature is also obvious that low melting point materials will be available to synthesize graphene as substrate. In this study, the temperature will be kept constant in $400^{\circ}C$ and the graphene was grown in plasma environment with changing the plasma power, the flow rate of precursors, and the distance between plasma generator coil and substrates. Then, we investigate the effect of temperature and the influence of process variables to graphene film's quality and characterize the film properties with Raman spectroscopy and sheet resistance and optical emission spectroscopy.
We investigated how temperature influences the structural and energetic dynamics of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) undergoing a high-speed impact with a Si (110) surface. By performing molecular dynamics simulations in the temperature range of 100 - 300 K, we found that a low temperature CNT ends up with a higher vibrational energy after collision than a high temperature CNT. The vibrational temperature of CNT increases by increasing the surface temperature. Overall, the structural and energy relaxation of low temperature CNTs are faster than those of high temperature CNTs.
The goal of this research is to verify a performance test system for a low speed, high torque, and harsh reducer at low cost. The reducer rotates a cooling fan with a diameter of 10 meters, in a high temperature (50℃) cooling tower in a geothermal power plant. It requires about 500 kgf·m torque and 47.75 kW power to rotate the fan at a maximum power condition. An expensive dynamometer is commonly used for performance test of a motor or a reducer. In this paper, a low cost system is developed using a hydraulic pump as a load unit to generate torque instead of a dynamometer. We accurately calculated the required power, the flow meter, and the pressure of the pump, and selected to design and optimize the system at minimal cost. The system also applied another reverse reducer and a gearbox to increase the rotational speed and to reduce the torque from the low speed and high torque target reducer. This allows low-cost systems to be built using inexpensive components. The developed system was able to successfully measure the high torque and the low rotational speed of the target reducer at high temperature.
We have developed a low-temperature, and low-pressure radical induced oxidation (RIO) technology, so that high-quality ultrathin silicon dioxide layers have been effectively produced with a high reproducibility, and successfully employed to realize high performace SiGe heterostructure complementary MOSFETs (HCMOS) lot the first time. The obtained oxide layer showed comparable leakage and breakdown properties to conventional furnace gate oxides, and no hysteresis was observed during high-frequency capacitance-voltage characterization. Strained SiGe HCMOS transistors with a 2.5 nm-thick gate oxide layer grown by this method exhibited excellent device properties. These suggest that the present technique is particularly suitable for HCMOS devices requiring a fast and high-precision gate oxidation process with a low thermal budget.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of a water heat source cascade heat pump system R717(Ammonia) is used for a low-stage working fluid while R134a is for a high-stage. In order to gain a high temperature supply water in winter season, the system is designed to perform a cascade cycle. In this study, two experiments were carried out. One is a system starting test from the low load temperature of $10^{\circ}C$. The other is a system performance investigation over the R717 compressor capacity changes. Experimental results show that when it starts from the low load temperature, the suction temperature of the low-stage compressor is higher than that of a high-stage. The system performance increases when a water source temperature or a low-stage compressor rotational frequency goes higher.

Abiotic stresses such as high/low temperature, drought, salinity, and submergence directly or indirectly influence the physiological status and molecular mechanisms of rice which badly affect yield. Especially, the low temperature causes harmful influences in the overall process of rice growth such as uneven germination and the establishment of seedlings, which has become one of the main limiting factors affecting rice production in the world. It is of great significance to find the candidate genes controlling low-temperature tolerance during seed germination and study their functions for breeding new rice cultivars with immense low-temperature tolerance during seed germination. In this study, 120 lines of Cheongcheong/Nagdong double haploid population were used for quantitative trait locus analysis of low-temperature germinability. The results showed significant difference in germination under low different temperature conditions. In total, 4 QTLs were detected on chromosome 3, 6, and 8. A total of 41 genes were identified from all the 4 QTLs, among them, 25 genes were selected by gene function annotation and further screened through quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction. Based on gene function annotation and level of expression under low-temperature, our study suggested OsGPq3 gene as a candidate gene controlling viviparous germination, ABA and GA signaling under low-temperature. This study will provide a theoretical basis for marker-assisted breeding.
This paper firstly proposed high performance composite columns for cold-region infrastructures using ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) and ultra-high strength steel (UHSS) Q960E. Then, 24 square UHPC-filled UHSS tubes (UHSTCs) at low temperatures of -80, -60, -30, and 30℃ were performed under axial loads. The key influencing parameters on axial compression performance of UHSS were studied, i.e., temperature level and UHSS-tube wall thickness (t). In addition, mechanical properties of Q960E at low temperatures were also studied. Test results revealed low temperatures improved the yield/ultimate strength of Q960E. Axial compression tests on UHSTCs revealed that the dropping environmental temperature increased the compression strength and stiffness, but compromised the ductility of UHSTCs; increasing t significantly increased the strength, stiffness, and ductility of UHSTCs. This study developed numerical and theoretical models to reproduce axial compression performances of UHSTCs at low temperatures. Validations against 24 tests proved that both two methods provided reasonable simulations on axial compression performance of UHSTCs. Finally, simplified theoretical models (STMs) and modified prediction equations in AISC 360, ACI 318, and Eurocode 4 were developed to estimate the axial load capacity of UHSTCs at low temperatures.
This paper is to investigate the effect of the curing temperature on strength development of concrete incorporating cement kiln dust(CKD) and blast furnace slag (BS) quantitatively. Estimation of the compressive strength of the concrete was conducted using the equivalent age equation and the rate constant model proposed by Carino. Correction of Carino model was studied to secure the accuracy of strength development estimation by introducing correction factors regarding rate constant and age. An increasing curing temperature results in an increase in strength at early age, but with the elapse of age, strength development at high curing temperature decreases compared with that at low curing temperature. Especially, the use of BS has a remarkable strength development at early age and even at later age, high strength is maintained due to accelerated pozzolanic activity resulting from high temperature. Whereas, at low curing temperature, the use of BS leads to a decrease in compressive strength. Accordingly, much attention should be paid to prevent strength loss at low temperature. Based on the strength development estimation using equivalent age equation, good agreements between measured strength and calculated strength are obtained.
This paper presents a new efficient approach to estimate the S-N type fatigue life assessment curve for S550 high strength steels under low-cycle actions at -60℃. The proposed approach combines a single set of monotonic tension test and one set of fatigue tests to determine the key material damage parameters in the continuum damage mechanics framework. The experimental program in this study examines both the material response under low-cycle actions. The microstructural mechanisms revealed by the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) at the low temperature, furthermore, characterizes the effect due to different strain ratios and low temperature on the low-cycle fatigue life of S550 steels. Anchored on the experimental results, this study validates the S-N curve determined from the proposed approach. The S-N type curve determined from one set of fatigue tests and one set of monotonic tension tests estimates the fatigue life of all specimens under different strain ratios satisfactorily.
