  • This paper presents the prediction of remaining service life of the concrete due to steel corrosion caused by the following three cases; carbonation, using sea sand and using deicing salts. The assessment of initiation period was generalized considering the existing perdiction models in the literature, corrosion experiment and field assessment. To evaluate the prediction equation of rust growth, the corrosion accelerating experiments was performed. The polarization resistance was measured by potentiostat and the conversion coefficient of polarzation resistance to corrosion rate was determined by the measurement of real mass loss. Chloride content, carbonation, cover depth, relative humidity, water-cement ratio(W/C), and the use of deicing salts were taken into account and the resulting prediction equation of rust growth was proposed on the basis of these properties. The proposed equation is to predict the rust growth during any specified period of time and be effective in particular for predicting service life of concrete in the case of using sea sand.

  • This study examined variations in postmortem meat quality characteristics and consumer sensory evaluations of different pork quality classes in fresh and cooked meat. Pale, soft, and exudative (PSE) meat had the highest drip loss, lightness, and the lowest $pH_{24\;hr}$ whereas dark, firm, and dry (DFD) meat showed the opposite results. When the fresh meat was evaluated by consumer panelists, they could only distinguish the PSE class of meat and it scored lowest in overall acceptability. However, the panelists did not consider cooked PSE or DFD pork to be unacceptable overall, indicating that consumers cannot distinguish the quality of cooked pork.

  • Along with the recent trend of improved survival in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), health-related quality of life (HRQoL) has become a significant outcome measure and its improvement is an important goal. The most widely adopted CRC specific HRQoL questionnaires are the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Qualityof-Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-CR38) and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy (FACT-C). CRC survivors without serious comorbidity or recurrence experience only minor deficits of overall HRQoL when compared to the general population. However, disease recurrence, progression, and more specific limitations, including weight loss, reduction in energy, and psychosocial problems like psychological distress and depression, could result in lower HRQoL. To improve HRQoL, further research is required to develop appropriate health education regarding lifestyle changes and personalized intervention strategies for CRC survivors.

  • We examined the effect of the acidic liquid from carbonized rice hull(ALCRH) treatments to molded fiber packages(MFP) on weight, Haugh unit, pH and microbial activity of egg to extend the shelf life in egg packaging. Higher concentration and surface spray treatment of the acidic liquid extended the shelf life of egg. ALCRH treatment to MFP improved the performance of the packaging for egg in terms of decreased weight loss and retarded microorganism growth of eggs during storage.

  • The multi-host pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, possesses an extraordinary versatility which makes it capable of surviving the adverse conditions provided by environmental, host, and, presumably, competing microbial factors in its natural habitats. Here, we investigated the P. aeruginosa-Bacillus subtilis interaction in laboratory conditions and found that some P. aeruginosa strains can outcompete B. subtilis in mixed planktonic cultures. This is accompanied by the loss of B. subtilis viability. The bactericidal activity of P. aeruginosa is measured on B. subtilis plate cultures. The bactericidal activity is attenuated in pqsA, mvfR, lasR, pilB, gacA, dsbA, rpoS, and phnAB mutants. These results suggest that P. aeruginosa utilizes a subset of conserved virulence pathways in order to survive the conditions provided by its bacterial neighbors.

  • Synthetic antioxidants have shown adverse effects on consumers. The review, thus, aims to assess the effect of marinating broiler meat with plant leaves-derived antioxidants potential for improving shelf-life and human health. Broiler meat loss and waste due to spoilage is more than three million kg annually, thus, extending shelf-life by reducing initial microbial load and autoxidation is essential. Adding various antioxidants would reduce oxidation of protein and fatty acids improving nutritional shelf-life through synergic interactions. Antioxidant synergetic effects also improves reduction in microbiota proliferation leading to the delayed development of off flavours and deterioration of meat colour. To reduce initial microbial load and autoxidation effects, the inclusion of polyphenols and antioxidants from varying sources by mixing various antioxidants would lead to improved synergic effects.

  • In this study, we suggest a environmentally-conscious and dry cleaning process mechanism for the recycling of end-of-life CRT, and also develope a protype cleaning system to verify the faulty of the designed mechanism. This system accommodates the specifications of 14 ~ 32" end-of-life CRT. In experimental result, it is expected that the developed system improve the productivity up to 10% and decrease the loss rate of cleaning glass 3~4 times rather than the existing methods.hods.

  • This research is the method that develops the efficient Source Head and the performance of Ion Implanter. Source Head is used during 20 days because Source Head's life time is different from the life time of most components. Components which is replaced to remake the Source Head is very expensive, and moreover, the above of 50% is used with one time. In this research, as we applied the influx method of the atom in aerial distributed method, obtained the effect which suppresses the portion which occurs with loss of thermion and is a possibility of lowering the pressure of the Arc. And then We it will be able to suppress be imbrued of the Chamber.

  • The primary purpose of the safety management is to prevent the loss of lives or physical damages arising from potential hazards in the railroad signaling system. Since such potential hazards may occur at any time during the system life cycle from design and development to maintenance, safety management activities have to be continuously taken in the course of the system life cycle. The identification of potential hazards is the early step of the safety management. However, such identification activities have to be continued during the system life cycle. Further, they have to be closely linked with system functions to prevent functional problems. This study provides a systematic approach to identification of potential hazards for their tracking and management during the system life cycle to assure the identification and definition of the most appropriate hazards.
