Therapeutic Effect of a Double Locking-loop Suture Pattern on the Elbow Luxation with Rupture of Collateral Ligament in a Dog (곁인대가 파열되고 주관절이 탈구된 개에서 이중 Locking-loop 봉합법의 치료효과)

  • A nine-month-old male Jindo with non weight-bearing on the right forelimb in flexed position, pain and edema of the elbow, and resist elbow extension was brought to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Chungbuk National University. Elbow radiographs showed loss of humeroradial joint space and lateral displacement of the radius and ulna. Closed reduction was reported the best therapy in most cases of luxation of the elbow but conservative reduction was impossible. Open reduction of the luxated elbow was performed and ruptured collateral ligaments were identified. Displaced elbow was required bloody surgical operation and gentle reduction to restore elbow joint. Internal reduction of choice for elbow luxation with rupture of collateral ligament in the dog was a double locking-loop suture pattern. To ensure secure grasping of parallel bundles of ligament fibers to transverse bites of each suture were placed superficial to the longitudinal bites. All ligaments were repaired with 3-metric (size 2 USP) monofilament polypropylene suture. No complications have been noted during a five-month follow up.

  • A design parameter study is presented for the closed-loop type passive containment cooling system (PCCS) which is equipped with two heat exchangers: one installed at the inside of the containment and the other submerged in the water pool at the outside of the containment. A GOTHIC code model for PCCS performance analyses was set up and the design parameters such as the heat exchanger sizes, locations, and water pool tank volumes were analyzed to investigate the feasibility of installing this type of PCCS in PWRs like OPR-1000 being operated in Korea. We identified the size of the circulation loop and heat exchangers as major design parameters affecting the performance of PCCS. The analyses showed that the heat exchangers in the inside of the containment would be more influential on the heat removal capability of PCCS than that installed in the water pool at the outside of the containment. Hence, it was recommended to down-size the heat exchangers in the water pool to optimize PCCS without compromising its performance. Based on the parametric study, it was demonstrated that a closed-loop type PCCS could be designed sufficiently compact for installation in the available space within the containment of PWRs like OPR-1000.

  • In this paper the performance of a closed-loop power control scheme using variable step size decision method for DS/CDMA based-low earth orbit(LEO) mobile satellite systems in which the long round trip delay is a dominant performance degradation factor is evaluated. Because there are fundamental differences in the characteristics between the LEO mobile satellite channel and terrestrial mobile channel, such as long round trip delay and different elevation angle, these factors are considered in channel modeling based on the European Space Agency(ESA) measurement data. Since the round trip delay (from the mobile terminal to the gateway station via satellite) is typically 10∼20ms in low altitude satellite channels, closed-loop power control is much less effective than it is on a terrestrial channel. Thus, the adaptive power control scheme using a variable step size control is essential for overcoming the long round trip delay and fading due to the elevation angle. It is shown that the standard deviation of signal to interference ratio(SIR) adopting a variable step size closed-loop power control scheme is much less than that of a fixed step size closed-loop power control. Furthermore, we have driven the conclusion that the measurement interval of power control commands is optimal choice when it is twice the round trip delay.

  • We construct an operad which is called the mapping class group operad. Its structure map is induced by the attachings of surfaces. The similar operad was constructed by Tillmann in order prove that ${\Gamma}^+_{\infty}$ is an infinite loop space. Our operad is rather simpler and easier to deal with.

  • A robust controller for large space structures(LSS) is studied from passivity point of view. While velocity sensors are commonly used for proportional-derivative (PD) control law to stabilize large space structures, if the structure can be controlled without velocity measurements, it is desirable against the failure of velocity sensors and for the cost reduction of the sensing system. In a recent result a dynamic output feedback control law has been provided using only displacement measurements. This paper presents a passivity-based controller design method and provides an alternative stability analysis tool for the previous displacement feedback robust control law. The closed-loop system can be viewed as a feedback interconnection of a passivated large space structure (LSS) and a strictly positive real (SPR) system.

  • In this paper we consider the variable structure control for a class of discrete-time uncertain multivariable systems where the nominal system is linear. Discrete-time switching dynamics are introduced so that a new type of state trajectories called sliding mode may exist on the sliding surface by state feedback. The quantitative analysis for the matched uncertainties will show that every response of the system with the proposed switching dynamics is bounded within small neighborhoods of the state-space origin. Also, by the similarity transformation it will be shown that the eigenvalues of the closed-loop systems are composed of those of the subsystems which govern the range-space dynamics and null-space dynamics. It will be also shown that ideal sliding mode can be obtained in the absence of uncertainties due to one-step attraction to the sliding surface regardless of initial position of states.   • The purpose of this experimental study was to evaluate aㅜd compare maxillary arch dimensional and positional changes between first and second premolar extraction groups. The Calorific Machine was used to illustrate tooth movement in three dimensions. The experimental teeth except the first or second premolars were embedded in artifical alveolar bone. The extraction space was closed using arch wires with bull loops into which 15 degree gable bends were placed. Before and after space closure, radiographs were taken in the sagittal and occlusal directions using occlusal films. The results showed greater mean maxillary incisor retraction and less anchorage loss in the maxillary first premolar extraction group than in the maxillary second premolar extraction group. Mesiopalatal rotation of anchor teeth was greater after extraction of a maxillary second premolar than a maxillary first premolar (P<.001).
