An Excess-3 Code Carry Lookahead Design for High-Speed Decimal Addition (고속 십진 가산을 위한 3초과 코드 Carry Lookahead설계)

  • Carry lookahead(CLA) circuitry of decimal adders is proposed aiming at delay reduction. The truncation error in calculation of monetary interests may accumulate yielding a substantial amount of errors. Binary Coded Decimal(BCD) additions. for example, eliminate the truncation error in a fractional representation of decimal numbers. The proposed BCD carry lookahead scheme is aiming at the speed improvements without any truncation errors in the addition of decimal fractions. The delay estimation of the BCD CLA is demonstrated with improved performance in addition. Further reduction in delay can be achieved introducing non-weighted number system such as the excess-3 code.

  • The Last PlannerSystem (LPS) has been implemented on construction projects to increase work flow reliability, a precondition for project performance againstproductivity and progress targets. The LPS encompasses four tiers of planning processes:master scheduling, phase scheduling, lookahead planning, and commitment / weeklywork planning. This research highlights deficiencies in the current implementation of LPS including poor lookahead planning which results in poor linkage between weeklywork plans and the master schedule. This poor linkage undetermines the ability of theweekly work planning process to select for execution tasks that are critical to projectsuccess. As a result, percent plan complete (PPC) becomes a weak indicator of project progress. The purpose of this research is to improve lookahead planning (the bridgebetween weekly work planning and master scheduling), improve PPC, and improve theselection of tasks that are critical to project success by increasing the link betweenShould, Can, Will, and Did (components of the LPS), thereby rendering PPC a betterindicator of project progress. The research employs the case study research method to describe deficiencies inthe current implementation of the LPS and suggest guidelines for a better application ofLPS in general and lookahead planning in particular. It then introduces an analyticalsimulation model to analyze the lookahead planning process. This is done by examining the impact on PPC of increasing two lookahead planning performance metrics: tasksanticipated (TA) and tasks made ready (TMR). Finally, the research investigates theimportance of the lookahead planning functions: identification and removal ofconstraints, task breakdown, and operations design.The research findings confirm the positive impact of improving lookaheadplanning (i.e., TA and TMR) on PPC. It also recognizes the need to perform lookaheadplanning differently for three types of work involving different levels of uncertainty:stable work, medium uncertainty work, and highly emergent work.The research confirms the LPS rules for practice and specifically the need to planin greater detail as time gets closer to performing the work. It highlights the role of LPSas a production system that incorporates deliberate planning (predetermined andoptimized) and situated planning (flexible and adaptive). Finally, the research presents recommendations for production planningimprovements in three areas: process related, (suggesting guidelines for practice),technical, (highlighting issues with current software programs and advocating theinclusion of collaborative planning capability), and organizational improvements(suggesting transitional steps when applying the LPS).

Restricted Multi-hop Information Lookahead Scheme for Real-Time Data Dissemination in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 망에서 실시간 데이터 전송을 위한 제한적 멀티-홉 정보 예측 기법)

  • In wireless sensor networks, real-time data delivery schemes typically achieve a desired delivery speed by performing one-hop lookahead. Recently, to reduce the deadline miss ratio against the desired delivery speed, a study has proposed a real-time routing protocol based on proactively performing two-hop lookahead. However, the study might cause heavy message exchange overhead and high computing complexity to carry out obtainment of two-hop neighborhood speed information in the entire sensor nodes whether data are delivered or not. Moreover, although multi-hop lookahead provides the least deadline miss ratio, due to the restriction from the overhead and the complexity, the recent study merely adopts the two-hop lookahead manner. In this paper, we propose a novel real-time routing protocol that adopts on-demand neighborhood multi-hop information obtainments only around data forwarding paths. Simulation results prove that the proposed routing protocol offers better performances with respect to deadline miss ratio, total communication costs, energy efficiency, and network lifetime.

  • An excess-3 code adde $r_tracter circuit is proposed for human friendly decimal computation. Carry lookahead (CLA) circuitry can be used to enhance decimal computation speed. The proposed excess-3 adde $r_tracter employs improved CLA and compensation circuitry recoding computation delay. The circuitry used for addition is used for subtraction without further modification. Substantial speed improvement is obtained compared to conventional designs.signs.

  • This paper presents an ENMODL(enhances NORA MODL) circuit and implements a high-speed 32 bit CLA(carry lookahead adder) with the new dynamic logics. The proposed logic can reduce the area and the Propagation delay of carry because output inverters and a clocking PMOS of second stage can be omitted in two-stage MODL(multiple output domino logic) circuits. The 32-bit CLA is implemented with 0.8um double metal CMOS Process and the carry propagation delay of the adder is about 3.9 nS. The ENMODL circuits can improve the performance in the high-speed computing circuits depending on the degree of recurrence.

Sign-Select Lookahead CORDIC based High-Speed QR Decomposition Architecture for MIMO Receiver Applications

  • This paper presents a high-speed QR decomposition architecture for the multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) receiver based on Givens rotation. Under fast-varying channel, since the inverse matrix calculation has to be performed frequently in MIMO receiver, a high performance and low latency QR decomposition module is highly required. The proposed QR decomposition architecture is composed of Sign-Select Lookahead (SSL) coordinate rotation digital computer (CORDIC). In the SSL-CORDIC, the sign bits, which are computed ahead to select which direction to rotate, are used to select one of the last iteration results, therefore, the data dependencies on the previous iterations are efficiently removed. Our proposed QR decomposition module is implemented using TSMC 0.25 ${\mu}M$ CMOS process. Experimental results show that the proposed QR architecture achieves 34.83% speed-up over the Compact CORDIC based architecture for the 4 ${\times}$ 4 matrix decomposition.

  • Incremental parsing has been researched in the intention that the parse result of the original string is reused in the parsing of a new string. This paper proposes an improved method of the previous incremental LL(1) parser with nonterminal lookahead symbols. The previous work is time-inefficient because it repeatedly performs unnecessary steps when an error occurs. This paper gives a solution for the problem.

  • Last Planner System (LPS) developed by Lean Construction Institute consists of four steps: Master Schedule, Phase Schedule, Lookahead Planning and Weekly Work Plan. This paper focuses on the process of measuring Percent of Plan Completed (PPC) at the Weekly Work Plan stage. PPC means the percentage of weekly assignments completed. According to the results of the researches that deal with PPC from many other countries, we can assure the benefits of using PPC. However, the concept of PPC is unfamiliar in Korea construction industry. This paper analyzes the cases in which PPC is applied in other countries and compares them with the production control system in Korean construction industry. The results of this research will provide the time management system for using PPC in Korea.

  • This paper deals with ship's track keeping methods which is crucial part of automatic navigation control systems. In this paper, we mainly discuss the performance of different guidance methods including way point guidance, enclosure-based steering guidance and lookahead-based steering guidance system. As a controller, a PID control system is employed to control ship's rudder angle during track-keeping. Finally, the performance of three methods are discussed through some simulation results.
