  • Many research applications in basic sciences and biology such as protein crystallography require hard x-rays in the range of 3-20 keV with high brightness. A medium energy storage ring as PLS-II with a beam energy of 3 GeV can meet such high photon energies. In-vacuum undulators (IVU) with a period length of 20 mm and a peak field of 0.97 T are used in the PLS-II ring to produce such X-rays in the fundamental or higher harmonics. Due to the many poles and high fields, insertion devices like wigglers and undulators have a significant impact on the stability of the electron beam with potential degradation of beam quality and life time. Therefore, nonlinear fields must be determined by measurement and evaluated as to their impact on beam stability. Specifically, transverse field roll-off can be a serious detriment to injection in top-up mode and must be corrected. We use magnetic field measurement data to evaluated beam stability by tracking particles using an explicit symplectic integrator in both, transverse and longitudinal planes.

  • In this paper, the exact closed-form solutions for torsional analysis of heterogeneous magnetostrictive circular cylinder are derived. The cylinder is subjected to the action of a magnetic field produced by a constant longitudinal current density. It is also acted upon by a particular kind of shearing stress at its upper base. The rigidity of the cylinder is graded through its axial direction from one material at the lower base to another material at the upper base. The distributions of circumferential displacement and shear stresses are presented through the radial and axial directions of the cylinder. The influence of the magnetostrictive parameter is discussed. The effects of additional parameters are investigated.

  • We investigate the characteristics of the surface mode formed at the single interface between dual singly negative medium layers. It is shown that the interface can support a mode which has polarization degeneracy and a vanishing propagation constant. That is, this surface mode is a polarization-independent one that does not propagate at all through the interface. The corresponding electric and magnetic field distributions become static along the longitudinal (guiding) direction (but not along the transverse direction) resulting in the formation of transverse-electric/longitudinalmagnetic or transverse-magnetic/longitudinal-electric modes.

  • This research is devoted to study post-buckling analysis of functionally graded carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) micro plate with cut out subjected to magnetic field and resting on elastic medium. The basic formulation of plate is based on first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and the material properties of FG-CNTRCs are presumed to be changed through the thickness direction, and are assumed based on rule of mixture; moreover, nonlocal Eringen's theory is applied to consider the size-dependent effect. It is considered that the system is embedded in elastic medium and subjected to longitudinal magnetic field. Energy approach, domain decomposition and Rayleigh-Ritz methods in conjunction with Newton-Raphson iterative technique are employed to trace the post-buckling paths of FG-CNTRC micro cut out plate. The influence of some important parameters such as small scale effect, cut out dimension, different types of FG distributions of CNTs, volume fraction of CNTs, aspect ratio of plate, magnitude of magnetic field, elastic medium and biaxial load on the post-buckling behavior of system are calculated. With respect to results, it is concluded that the aspect ratio and length of square cut out have negative effect on post-buckling response of micro composite plate. Furthermore, existence of CNTs in system causes improvement in the post-buckling behavior of plate and different distributions of CNTs in plate have diverse response. Meanwhile, nonlocal parameter and biaxial compression load on the plate has negative effect on post-buckling response. In addition, imposing magnetic field increases the post-buckling load of the microstructure.

  • Strands composing multistage superconducting cables for AC power applications have twisted structure in each stage for lower AC loss and higher stability. So, when transport currents flow in a cable, each strand is exposed to longitudinal and azimuthal magnetic fields produced by transport current flowing in strand itself and Iongitudinal and transverse magnetic fields by transport current flowing in twisted cable. In this paper. we study the influence on self field lesses generated in second stage superconducting cable for different twist direction of filaments in a strand considering twist of strands in cables.

  • The dynamic magneto-mechanical behaviors in a type of iron-nickel-based ferromagnetic alloy with constant elasticity were investigated as a function of both the DC bias magnetic field ($H_{dc}$) and the frequency. The rectangular plate-like samples were excited to vibrate at a half-wavelength, longitudinal resonance by an AC magnetic field superimposed with various $H_{dc}$. The experimental results found that the strain coefficient at resonance reached 819.34 nm/A and the effective mechanical quality factor ($Q_m$) was greater than 2000. The ratio of the maximum variation of the Young's modulus over $H_{dc}$ to the value of the Young's modulus at a zero bias field was only ${\sim}0.83%o$ because of the so-called constant elasticity. The resonant strain coefficients and $Q_m$ are strongly dependent on $H_{dc}$, which indicates a promising potential for use in DC and quasistatic magnetic field sensing.

  • In this study, we investigated whether the anhysteretic demagnetization process would be applicable to remove a complicated magnetization of a steel tube as a part of the experimental earlier study for a deperming of naval vessel. The magnetic tube used in this study was a 10cm-long and 1cm-diameter steel tube, and magnetized with a E-shape ferrite core to form a nonuniform magnetization in it. In the anhysteretic demagnetization process, a dc magnetic field applied along the longitudinal direction of the tube decreased from ${\pm}$3kA/m to zero-field with the step of ${\pm}$300A/m. At the same time, an ac bias magnetic field with the frequency of 60Hz and the field intensity of 300A/m was excited along the circumstantial direction of the tube. It was found that the anhysteretic process was useful to demagnetize a small-object like a steel tube from the experimental results showing the residual magnetization reduced over 90%.

  • In this study we present a new improved nonlinear calibration method for vector magnetograms made by the Solar Flare Telescope of BOAO. To identify Fe I 6302.5 line, we have scanned monochromatic images of the line integrated over filter passband, changing the location of the central transmission wavelength of a Lyot filter. Then we obtained a filter-convolved line profile, which is in good agreement with spectral atlas data provided by the Sacramento Peak Solar Observatory. The line profile has been used to derive calibration coefficients of longitudinal and transverse fields, employing the conventional line slope method under the weak field approximation. Our improved nonlinear calibration method has also been used to calculate theoretical Stokes polarization signals with various angles of inclination of magnetic fields. For its numerical test, we have compared input magnetic fields with the calibrated ones, which have been derived from the new improved non-linear method and the conventional method respectively. The numerical test shows that the calibrated fields obtained from the improved method are consistent with the input fields, but not with those from the conventional method. Finally, we applied our new improved method to a dipole model which characterizes a typical field configuration of a single, round sunspot. It is noted that the conventional method remarkably underestimates the transverse field component near the inner penumbra.

  • The outer-most electrons of metal atoms and the remaining valence electrons of any molecular atoms make three-dimensional crystallizing $\pi$-bondings. The rotating electrons on the three-dimensional crystallizing $\pi$-bonding orbitals of atoms make $\pi$-far infrared rays. Longitudinal wave is a propagation of a bundle of $\pi$-far infrared rays, which are produced by a dynamic impact on a solid bar. The $\pi$-far infrared rays make three-dimensional crystallizing $\pi$-bondings in the material, which reproduce the same $\pi$-far infrared rays. If a current signal is input into water molecules under a given electric potential field with $\pi$-far infrared rays (input information), the signal can be amplified because the $\pi$-far infrared rays make the $\pi$-bondings, which reduce electric resistance. The three-dimensional crystallizing $\pi$-bondings can induce normal electrons to move from one orbital to next one with a aid of potential electric field. Quantum Resonance Spectrometer is composed of tesla coil absorbing $\pi$-far infrared rays, tesla coil emitting varying electromagnetic waves signal generator, signal storage, human body amplifier, signal analyzer and data indicator. The absorbing tesla coil making varying magnetic field and downward and upward electric field, which resonates the $\pi$-far infrared rays coming out from specimen and absorbs them. The modulated current signal from the input square signal can generate and emit varying electromagnetic waves from the tesla coil. The varying electro-magnetic waves make the three-dimensional crystallizing $\pi$-bondings and the $\pi$-far infrared rays in the water molecules.
