An Efficient 4K and 8K UHD Transmission Scheme on Convergence Networks with Broadcasting and LTE by using Coordinated Multi-Point Transmission System

  • In this paper, an efficient 4K and 8K UHD(Ultra High Definition) transmission scheme is proposed on the convergence networks with broadcasting and LTE(Long Term Evolution) by using CoMP(Coordinated Multi-Point). A video data is compressed and divided into BL(Base Layer), E(Enhanced layer)1, E2 and E3 by scalable HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding). The divided layers can be combined by the scalable HEVC such as mobile HD, full HD, 4K and 8K UHD(Ultra High Definition). The divided layers are transmitted through the convergence networks with DVB-T2(Digital Video Broadcasting-$2^{nd}$ Generation Terrestrial) broadcasting system and LTE CoMP. This scheme transmits mobile HD and full HD layers through DVB-T2 broadcasting system by using M-PLP(Multiple-physical Layer Pipes), and adaptively transmits 4K or 8K UHD layer through LTE CoMP with MMT(MPEG Media Transport) server. An adaptive transmitting and receiving scheme in the LTE CoMP system provides 4K or 8K UHD layer to a user according to the user status. The proposed scheme is verified by showing the system-level simulation results which is better BER(bit-error-rate) performance than the conventional scheme. The results show that the proposed scheme provides the stable video contents to the user especially at the cell edge.

  • For the problem of cross-layer joint resource allocation (JRA) in the Long-Term Evolution (LTE)-Advanced standard using carrier aggregation (CA) technology, it is difficult to obtain the optimal resource allocation scheme. This paper proposes a joint resource allocation algorithm based on the weights of user's average quality of experience (JRA-WQOE). In contrast to prevalent algorithms, the proposed method can satisfy the carrier aggregation abilities of different users and consider user fairness. An optimization model is established by considering the user quality of experience (QoE) with the aim of maximizing the total user rate. In this model, user QoE is quantified by the mean opinion score (MOS) model, where the average MOS value of users is defined as the weight factor of the optimization model. The JRA-WQOE algorithm consists of the iteration of two algorithms, a component carrier (CC) and resource block (RB) allocation algorithm called DABC-CCRBA and a subgradient power allocation algorithm called SPA. The former is used to dynamically allocate CC and RB for users with different carrier aggregation capacities, and the latter, which is based on the Lagrangian dual method, is used to optimize the power allocation process. Simulation results showed that the proposed JRA-WQOE algorithm has low computational complexity and fast convergence. Compared with existing algorithms, it affords obvious advantages such as improving the average throughput and fairness to users. With varying numbers of users and signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), the proposed algorithm achieved higher average QoE values than prevalent algorithms.

  • The scheduling of planned maintenance problem of a system consisting of a number of components was studied. The purpose of maintenance scheduling is to minimize the cost of maintaining long-term operations. On the system side, the cost of a system shutdown can be minimized by grouping and inspecting a number of components. In addition, proper inspection cycles can be selected for each component to identify the failure sufficiently early to minimize the cost of the failure. To reduce the complexity of the calculations, the 'base interval approach' used in previous studies was applied and, in addition, the inspection cost savings from simultaneous inspections of multiple components were considered. To compare the effectiveness of inspection cost savings, this paper presents the results of simulation analysis performed by referring to the cases in the existing studies.

Streamflow generation for long-term bed change simulation at downstream of the dam using hydraulic geometric characteristic (수리기하학적 특성을 이용한 댐하류 하천의 장기하상변동 모의를 위한 유량의 생성)

  • 본 연구에서는 합천댐 방류량에 영향을 받는 황강을 대상으로 하천의 수리기하학적 분석을 통해 장기하상변동 모의를 위한 모의유량을 생성하였다. 낙동강 합류부로부터 상류로 3.5 km 구간을 대상으로 실측된 20개 횡단면에 대한 만제지표를 분석하였으며, 각 횡단면의 만제지표를 이용하여 대상구간의 평균 만제유량을 산정하였다. 대상구간의 평균 만제유량은 $177.37m^3/s$로 나타났다. 산정된 만제유량을 이용하여 황강의 연간 총 유출량을 추정하였으며, 추정된 연간 총 유출량은 $8,513.76m^3/s$로 나타났다. 추정된 황강의 연간 총 유출량은 합천댐의 월별 방류량 비를 통해 월별 유출량으로 배분/생성하였다. 생성된 황강의 월별 유출량 비율과 인근의 실측 하천인 낙동강의 월별 유출량 비율을 비교한 결과 국내하천의 일반적인 특성인 몬순강우 사상에 따른 하천의 월별 유출량과 갈수기와 홍수기 전반에 걸쳐 차이가 있음을 확인하였다. 아울러 댐하류 하천의 장기하상변동 모의를 위한 모의유량의 사용성 확인을 위해 2013-2014년에 실측된 1년간의 하상변동 양상과 비교 분석하였다. Case 1 (추정된 연간 총 유출량을 합천댐 방류량 비를 통해 생성한 모의유량)과 case 2 (인근 하천인 낙동강의 유출량 비를 통해 배분된 모의유량)을 이용하여 장기하상변동 모의를 수행한 결과 case 1에서 실측 하상과 유사한 결과가 나타남을 확인하였다. 따라서 댐하류 하천의 장기하상변동 모의는 일반적인 국내의 강우사상에 따른 하상변동 분석과 차이가 있음을 확인하였으며, 상류에 위치한 댐 방류량을 고려한 하상변동 분석이 필요함을 확인하였다.

Long-term Simulation of Water Temperature in Soyanggang Reservoir in Response to RCP 4.5 Climate Scenario (RCP 4.5 기후 시나리오에 따른 소양호 수온 변화 장기 모의)

  • 기후변화로 의한 기온의 상승은 가뭄, 홍수와 같은 재해를 일으킬 뿐만 아니라 깊은 호수나 저수지와 같은 수자원에도 용존 산소, 물질, 영양소 및 식물플랑크톤의 수직적 분포 등과 같은 다양한 부분에 영향을 미친다. 본 연구의 목적은 SWAT, HEC-ResSim 및 CE-QUAL-W2(이하 W2)모델을 사용하여 미래의 기후 변화에 따른 소양호의 수온, 성층강도 및 열적 안정성의 변화를 장기 예측하고 그 영향을 평가하는데 있다. W2 모델의 보정은 2005 년부터 2015 년까지의 실측 과거 데이터를 이용하여 보정하였고 기후변화 시나리오는 IPCC의 AR5 RCP 4.5 시나리오를 사용하였다. 기후자료는 GCM 모델인 HadGEM2-AO 결과를 상세화하여 모의기간의 자료를 생성하였다. SWAT모델을 이용하여 모의기간인 2016 년부터 2070 년까지 일단위로 저수지 유입을 예측했으며 HEC-ResSim모델을 이용하여 소양강댐 저수지 운영 조건에 따라 저수지 방류량 및 수위 변화를 모의하였다. 수온 해석을 위해 W2를 적용하여 저수지의 장기간의 수온 변화를 예측하였다. 결과적으로 대기 온도는 $0.0279^{\circ}C/year$(p < 0.05) 상승할 것으로 예측되었으며, 동일기간 상층(수면으로부터 5m 깊이)과 하층 (바닥으로부터 5m 높이) 수온은 각각 $0.0191^{\circ}C$/년(p < 0.05) 및 $0.008^{\circ}C$/년(p < 0.05) 상승할 것으로 예측되었다. 모의된 수온을 계절별로 분석했을 때 상층수온은 여름철 가장 큰 폭으로 상승하였으며 하층의 경우 겨울철에 가장 큰 폭으로 상승하였다. 계절별 상-하층 수온의 차는 여름이 가장 컸으며, 겨울에 온도차가 가장 작았다. 또한 미래 온도의 상승에 따라, 소양호의 성층 강도가 강해지는 경향을 보였으며 상층 및 하층의 온도차 $5^{\circ}C$를 기준으로 성층이 형성되는 기간은 큰 변동이 없었으나 소멸되는 시점이 점점 늦어지는 추세를 보여 성층 형성 기간이 길어지는 것으로 나타났다. 저수지 표면의 수온 상승은 식물플랑크톤의 계절 성장률에 영향을 미쳤는데, 특정 조건에서 규조류는 최적 성장 범위를 벗어나는 고온 조건에서 성장속도가 감소하였으나 녹조류와 남조류의 출현 시기가 빨라지며 장기화될 것으로 예측되었다.

Evaluation of SWMM Model Adjustment for Rubber-tired Tram Disaster Management System against the Snow-melt during the Winter (겨울철 융설을 대비한 바이모달 트램 재해관리 시스템의 SWMM 모형 적용성 평가)

  • Increasing urban sprawl and climate changes have been causing unexpected high-intensity rainfall events. Thus there are needs to enhance conventional disaster management system for comprehensive actions to secure safety. Therefore long-term and comprehensive flood management plans need to be well established. Recently torrential snowfall are occurring frequently, causing have snow traffic jams on the road. To secure safety and on-time operation of the Bi-modal tram system, well-structured disaster management system capable of analyzing the urban flash flooding and snow pack melt/freezing due to unexpected rainfall event and snowfall are needed. To secure safety of the Bi-modal tram system due to torrential snowfall, the snow melt simulation capability was investigated. The snow accumulation and snow melt were measured to validate the SWMM snow melt component. It showed that there was a good agreement between measured snow melt data and the simulated ones. Therefore, the Bi-modal tram disaster management system will be able to predict snow melt reasonably well to secure safety of the Bi-modal tram system during the winter. The Bi-modal tram disaster management system can be used to identify top priority area for snow removal within the tram route in case of torrential snowfall to secure on-time operation of the tram. Also it can be used for detour route in the tram networks based on the disaster management system predicted data.

Development and Application of ROADMOD for Analysis of Non-point Source Pollutions from Road: Analysis of Removal Efficiency of Sediment in Road by Sweeping (도로 비점오염 해석을 위한 ROADMOD개발 및 적용: 도로청소 효과 분석)

  • In this study, an Excel-based model (ROADMOD) was developed to estimate pollutant loading from the road and evaluate BMPs. ROADMOD employs the Chezy-Manning equation and empirical expression for estimating surface runoff, and power function for pollutant buildup, and exponential function for pollutant washoff in SWMM. The results of model calibration for buildup and washoff using observed data revealed a good match between the simulation results and the observed data. The long-term surface runoff and sediment simulated by ROADMOD demonstrated a good match with those by SWMM with 2 ~ 14% of relative error. The shorter sweeping interval (within 8 days) remarkably decreased sediment loads from the road. It was found that the effect of reducing sediment loads from the road was greatly affected not only by the sweeping interval but also by sweeping on the day before a rainfall event. The 48% of removal efficiency of sediment loads from the road was achieved with 26 times of road sweeping per year when sweeping was performed on the day before the rainfall event. A 4-day sweeping interval showed similar removal efficiency (48%) with 96 times of sweeping per year. It is considered that the road sweeping on the day before a rainfall event could maximize the effect of reducing the non-point source pollution from the road with minimization of the number of road sweeping. So, the road sweeping on the day before a rainfall event can be considered as one of the useful and best management practices (BMPs) on road.

Analysis of Power Generation Characteristics of a Photovoltaic System in Korea (태양광발전시스템 국내 지역별 발전특성 분석)

  • In this study, reflecting long-term climate characteristics, we analyzed electricity generation and generation characteristics of 3kWp PV system, which was semi-integrated with air duct behind. Using PVsyst as a simulation analysis tool, we inputted "National reference standard weather data" of 16 regions as a typical climatic data. The result is summarized as follows: First, the national average annual electricity generation was 1,312 kWh/kWp (StDev, ${\sigma}=71$). It was most abundant in Mokpo with 1,434 kWh/kWp, which was average 21% greater than the lowest with 1,165 kWh/kWp in Seoul and 1,197 kWh/kWp in Jeju. National average daily generating time based on STC was 3.6 hours (${\sigma}=0.43$), and that of Mokpo and Seoul was 3.9 and 3.2 hours respectively. Second, Jeju showed the great difference of annual monthly generation by month (annual average = 99.7 kWh/kWp, ${\sigma}=25.5$), while Jinju showed the smallest difference (annual average = 115.5 kWh/kWp, ${\sigma}=10.6$). Generation in Jeju was at the largest in April with 132.2 kWh/kWp, which was 2.3 times greater than the lowest 55.2 kWh/kWp in January. However, generation in Jinju was at the largest in March with 129.3 kWh/kWp, which was only 1.3 times greater than the lowest 101.1 kWh/kWp in June. Third, the annual average PR was the highest in Incheon with 85.8% and the lowest in Jeju with 83.2%. PR of Mokpo was 84.3%, which was lower than that of national average.

Cognitive Virtual Network Embedding Algorithm Based on Weighted Relative Entropy

  • Current Internet is designed by lots of service providers with different objects and policies which make the direct deployment of radically new architecture and protocols on Internet nearly impossible without reaching a consensus among almost all of them. Network virtualization is proposed to fend off this ossification of Internet architecture and add diversity to the future Internet. As an important part of network virtualization, virtual network embedding (VNE) problem has received more and more attention. In order to solve the problems of large embedding cost, low acceptance ratio (AR) and environmental adaptability in VNE algorithms, cognitive method is introduced to improve the adaptability to the changing environment and a cognitive virtual network embedding algorithm based on weighted relative entropy (WRE-CVNE) is proposed in this paper. At first, the weighted relative entropy (WRE) method is proposed to select the suitable substrate nodes and paths in VNE. In WRE method, the ranking indicators and their weighting coefficients are selected to calculate the node importance and path importance. It is the basic of the WRE-CVNE. In virtual node embedding stage, the WRE method and breadth first search (BFS) algorithm are both used, and the node proximity is introduced into substrate node ranking to achieve the joint topology awareness. Finally, in virtual link embedding stage, the CPU resource balance degree, bandwidth resource balance degree and path hop counts are taken into account. The path importance is calculated based on the WRE method and the suitable substrate path is selected to reduce the resource fragmentation. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can significantly improve AR and the long-term average revenue to cost ratio (LTAR/CR) by adjusting the weighting coefficients in VNE stage according to the network environment. We also analyze the impact of weighting coefficient on the performance of the WRE-CVNE. In addition, the adaptability of the WRE-CVNE is researched in three different scenarios and the effectiveness and efficiency of the WRE-CVNE are demonstrated.

Effects of an ice pack and sulfur generating pad treatment for home delivery on the quality of 'Duke' blueberry fruits

  • This study focused on the improvement of blueberry delivery service using pre-cooled ice and $SO_2$ pads to prevent an increase in the fruit temperature as well as decay. To maintain the fruit quality during low temperature storage, the effect of a $SO_2$ pad and modified atmosphere packaging was also examined. Harvested blueberries were precooled at $15^{\circ}C$, sorted, and packaged. And the fruits were placed in a similar environment as that for the parcel service. Part of the fruits were stored at $0^{\circ}C$ for long term storage. The air temperature in the delivery box increased along with an increase in the simulated delivery time regardless of the treatment. However, the rate of temperature increase was lower in the ice pad treatment. No significant difference was not found after 48 h. The oxygen concentration in the box ranged between 10.5 - 14.5% in the ice pad treatment, which was higher than that of the untreated control (7.5 - 11.9%) whereas the $CO_2$ concentration was lower in the ice pad treatment. No differences were found in the occurrence of off-flavor, decay, and sensory quality loss during the 48 hours of the parcel service simulation. The combined treatment of the $SO_2$ pad and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) using a perforated film increased the shelf-life of the blueberry fruits, the overall quality such as firmness, and the soluble solid content was not different between the treatments except for the decay incidence. No decayed fruit was found in the combined treatment. However, the percentage of decayed fruit in the control was 25% on day 15 of storage and 75% on day 33 of storage, respectively.
