Byeolseo was located in various places with beautiful natural scenery to avoid the mundane world and for country life in seclusion. In this study, to classify locational type and characteristics of Byeolseo in Gyeongsangnamdo and Jeollado areas, complex locational types and characteristics of total 96 Byeolseo (52 in Gyeongsangnamdo and 44 in Jeollado) were researched and cluster analysis was executed to group locational characteristics to several clusters with similar characteristics in order to classify locational types of Byeolseo. As the result, locational type for Gyeongangnam-do and Jeolla-do were classified to 5 types each. Unique locational types Gyeongsangnamdo were 'valley type' and 'cliff type' and unique ones for Jeollado were 'flatland type' and 'riverside.hill type'. 'Hill type', 'curvy river type' and 'riverside other type' were shown in both areas. In Gyeongangnamdo, 30.8% was cliff type and 15.4% was valley type 46.2% of the total was locatedon 'cliff near river' or 'valley'. These were the most popular locational characteristics of Gyeongangnamdo. Unlike Gyeongangnamdo, 18.2% was flatland type, 18.2% is riverside.hill type, and 39.6% was hill type in Jeollado 75.0% of the total was locatedon 'flatland', 'on hill near river' or 'on hils'. These were the most popular locational characteristics of Jeollado. Such locational characteristics showed that Byeolseo was located using nearby scenery considering topographic characteristics of the located area.
The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of the technological changes on locational changes on the assumption that technological changes cover over all industrial sectors. The study is carred on 1) To investigate the theoretical backgrounds of the technological and locational changes and their problems. 2) To investigate the location and economic characteristics of the Korean textile industry. 3) To investigate the technological development and regional variations in technological level. 4) To the relationship of the technological change to the location of the textile industries. The locational change of the Korean textile industries have been closely related to economic characteristics. In the begining stage of development in the 1950's, thetextile industries were largely concentrated in the major cities(Seoul, Pusan, Taegu, Masan et. al.). In the growing stage of development in the 1960's, the textile industries were relocated in suburban areas with the trend of large corporations building their branch plants of chemical fibers in the suburbs. With the expansion in the export industry in the 1970's, the textile companies were distributed throughout the whole country. But the research and development(R&D) activities caused the textile industries reconcentrate around Seoul and Pusan, owining to the change of the economic environments in the 1980's. The 1980's have witnessed the increased R&D investment for the development of better new and value-added products. This was because the technological level was much higher than that of Taegu and Other regions. What is more, plant birth location and branch plant location support that locational changes of textile industry were caused by technological changes. Plant birth location put stress technological environments of region, compared with branch plant locaiton. Accordingly, the technological changes of industry can be an important factor in locational changes. Through this study, it can be seen that locational changes come from technological changes. Other locational factors influence the industrial locations, but regional variations in technological level which has been relatively ignored has to be considered on the location study. Together with the accomplishments of existing location study, the study on technological change and location can better explain the location phenomena. And further research on technological change and location can provide better policy implications for regional development.
The purpose of this study is to extract the main locational factors to affect the location of Convenience Stores (CVS) in Songpa Gu, Seoul by using Geographic Information Systems. The procedure of research has three steps. First, the spatial distribution of CVS in Korea is analyzed by the places and time. Second, the main locational factors to affect the location of CVS in Songpa Gu are extracted. Finally, the potential locational zones where are selected by extracted locational factors are compared with the actual distribution of CVS in Songpa Gu. The main locational factors to affect the location of CVS include factors of the numbers geocoding method in GIS, it can be idenified that the 58 stores are located in the potential locational zone. However, this study has limitation to extract potential locational zones in detail. There are still difficulties to collect appropriate data for land use buildings as well as data for consumer behavior and regional characteristics itself.

This study attempts to analyze the spatial clustering of survived and closed coffee shops based on the land price and land use for each coffee shop location. The locational characteristics of survived and closed coffee shops for each cluster type are identified through various locational properties such as transport factors (physical accessibility), shop properties (franchise information, newly open/closed business experience), and spatial density (kernel density estimation). To this end, we categorize the clusters of survived and closed coffee shops into three types (general locational distribution type, commercialization type of residential area and location type of commercial center), and then analyze their locational characteristics. As the result, we found that the locations of newly open and closed coffee shops show different distribution characteristics, even though they are classified into the same type due to the double sidedness of new open and closed locations. The results of this study can be provided as basic data for planning the location of coffee shop as well as regional commercial district.

This research empirically analyzed the factors associated with the energy consumption of tourism hotels in Busan, Ulsan, and the Kyoungnam region of Korea based on their individual and locational characteristics. The study adopted a comprehensive modeling approach involving multi-level regression analyses that allowed for improved accuracy by considering the hierarchical structures of the hotels and their locational characteristics. The results indicated that the majority of energy consumption can be explained by the hotels'individual characteristics, including the size of building structure and the services, while their effects vary by region with statistical significance. Furthermore, the proximity to central commercial districts and hotel clusters had a significant influence on the variability in their energy consumption, indicating that locational factors are also important determinants. The findings here suggest the need for regional energy policies and solutions at various urban scales along with conventional energy policies at the building level and highlight regional responsibilities when attempting to create sustainable tourism industries.

We built subway stops in order to meet demand. To do so, a standardized method is used to predict the demand. However, in some subway stops there are only few people moving around sparsely, but in some other stops there are too many people crammed in a crowd. The gap between forecasting and actual uses varies from 10% to more than 1,000%. This study is aimed to find out where this discrepancy between predicted vs. actual demand for urban rail transit comes from. Specifically, 40 subway stops in Seoul Metropolitan Area, which were opened last 10 years, are examined. This study suggests that, for better forecasting, we need to consider stops' locational characteristics as well as weekday commute-oriented exogenous factors. Locational characteristics includes; whether a stops is a terminal and/or weekend tourism node. There seems no "one size fits all" solution for transit demand forecasting; locational characteristics need to be reflected.
This study tried to establish a renewal guideline for rural villages through the analysis on locational characteristics of amenity/disamenity elements. Space Syntax Method was applied to analyze the locational characteristics of amenity/disamenity elements in qualitative terms. The study was carried out by 5 steps: Selection of amenity/disamenity classification table and case study villages(used same ones as in the previous study) ${\rightarrow}$ Drawing of base-map for spatial analysis ${\rightarrow}$ Preparation of final study-map after field survey ${\rightarrow}$ Spatial analysis using the Space Syntax Method ${\rightarrow}$ Proposing of a rural village renewal guideline. Through the application study to the case study villages, it was ascertained that the renewal guideline proposed in this study would well help reflect spatial characteristics of amenity/disamenity elements in plan-making works of rural villages.

The purpose of this study is to understand the locational characteristics of performing art industries and to investigate the linkages with local economy. For the purpose, we examine the spatial concentration of cultural and artistic resources in Korea first, and than focus on Seoul where the resources of performing art industries are concentrated to the utmost. To distinguish the distribution aspect and locational characteristics of performing art industries, we apply the Kernel density analysis and LISA (Local Indicator of Spatial Association) on the address data of performing art theater, gallery, and movie theater. In contrast to galleries and movie theaters. the spatial distribution pattern of performing art theaters reveals a unique local cluster centered on the Daehakro area. We confirm that the Daehakro area constitutes a performing art industry cluster in their dense distribution of various related activities making up the value chain of the performing art industry. Multiple regression analysis probes the related economic activities to explain the distribution of performing art theaters as well as the linkages with the local economic landscape.
This study aims to study the impact of weather conditions and locational characteristics of bike stations on the usage of public bike sharing system for efficient deployment and operation of public bike systems. Linear regression analysis is used to estimate the usage of public bikes of Goyang city. The statistical analysis shows that the usage rate increases with average temperature and decreases under high wind (over 7m/s) or high temperature (over $29^{\circ}$) condition. The usage rate of public bike sharing system can be differentiated by locational characteristics of bike station such as residential area, commercial area, park, school, and metro station. The usage rate increases in park and commercial areas from 10 AM to 3 PM, while it increases in school areas from 3 PM to 5 PM. Public bikes are highly used near the metro station from 5 PM to 8 PM. The stations in parks are highly used in late night, and the usage rate in CBD area increases after the midnight.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the industrialization process, and locational factors and linkages of manufacturing in Jangyu-Myun, a suburb of Metropolitan Pusan, toward which heavy decentralization of manufacturing from Pusan has been done. Hard data and soft data were used as the basic data. Hard data used for this study were both the statistical data which consists of the number of establishments and employee classified by product type, firm size, organizational type and unit area(dong) which were listed in statistics yearbooks, and the list of the owner's names, addresses, employee number, products and headquarters of firms which were listed in firm directories. Soft data were the results of the interviews with the 53 owners of firms surveyed among the firms selected by Proportional Stratified Sampling Method. The major findings were as follows: (1) Manufacturing location in Jangyu-Myun was regularized in 1980's in which decentralization of manufacturing was activiated. Though the industrialization of study area resulted from the birth, relocation and establishment of branches of the firms originated from the other regions, the relocation of small outer-oriented firms from the central city was the most important factor among them. (2) The main locational factors which induced the decentralizing manufacturing from the central city into Jangyu-Myun are closely related to land, transportation, personal factor, raw material suppliers and market. (3) The differences of important locational factors by the size and organizational type of firms are relevant to the characteristics of manufacturing location. (4) The changes of linkages attendant upon locational changes of firms were not so great and were localized in labor supply and marketing. (5) The strength of linkages is strong in the procurement of materials, in the subcontraction and in the marketing, but not in the ordering. (6) The main factors influencing on the formation of linkages are different by the types of linkages: monopolistic and oligopolistic supply are important in procurement linkages; characteristics of products and production capacity in the subcontraction and ordering; characteristics of products and the subsequent difficulties, in the marketing. (7) With the exception of procurement linkages, the strength of linkages with the outside of the study area are stronger than the linkages with the inside. The strength of linkages with the outside has distance-decay-function and strong linkages with the central city. (8) These spatial characteristics of linkages are different by products type, firm size and organizational type of firms: the spatial ranges of linkages are wider in the multi-location firms than in the single-location firms; the larger the firm size, the wider the spatial range of linkages: there is no consistent trend by products type. In conclusion, some facts described above were proved to be consistent with the results of proceeding studies in the other areas: influence of central city manufacturing relocation on industrialization in the suburb: different decentralization by products type, firm size and organizational types of firms: different locational factors by products type, firm size and organizational types of firms; linkage changes attendant upon locational changes of firms; spatial differences of linkages by products type, firm size and organizational type of firms. Some other factors were proved to be partly consistent: locational factors and spatial characteristics of linkages. Accordingly I think that the results of previous studies on the other areas can be applicable to the explanation of the location and linkage of manufacturing in Jangyu-Myun. For the better explanation on the characteristics of manufacturing decentralization from the central city, more empirical case studies on the location and linkage of manufacturing in the suburb areas are necessary.
